- Shiny Piplup appears shortly before odds and just the one uncatchable Starly! You really can't complain at that at all. I started hunting this on release day and it decided to shine a little under two weeks later. I'm really happy to be able to play the new games with a shiny starter. I can't tell you how much I disliked Sword and Shield for locking the starters. This is justice.
I was choosing batches of 10 and then moving on to the next starter. I've never hunted like that before and it was really fun and absolutely kept the hunt fresh.
Next up is something in Eterna Forest which sounds super busted with 2 encounters with 1/4096 odds. Excited!

You were truly destined to get Piplup!!! That normal Piplup at the beginning and the Starly appearing on a Piplup reset really set it in stone. Alternating like that is super fun - I personally had a blast hunting all 3 kanto starters at the same time in FR/LG this year to see which one would shine first.

Here's a tip for anyone who is still hunting their starter (like me lol): If you lower the ingame volume in the settings (background music, sound effects, pokemon cries), for some reason the cut scene is ever so slightly faster. Also if you turn off battle animations, it cancels out the animation of your avatar throwing out the pokeball. In total this saves about 1 second per reset. That doesnt seem like a lot but in the grand scheme of things, if you go all the way to full odds, this will save you 4096 seconds in total. Congrats on the shiny Sonikks and good luck to anyone else still on the hunt for theirs!

Finally got around to watching this, and I'm glad I did XD It took me around over 1300 encounters to find my shiny Piplup. Glad you found yours; I think the only issue I had was the waiting for the loading screen... it seems to take about half a minute or so for that screen to load, and sometimes you'll get the crashing issue you mentioned.
I got my shiny piplup 2 days ago!!! And it's calm nature aswell! I swear to God! That's insane, I got mine on the 2nd I believe:)) so same aswell. That's incredible :) been watching you for 2 years now, you're amazing :) keep it up!

Gratz on the Piplup!! I did full odds random encounters in SwSh similarly to how you hunted these starters! Of course SwSh had overworld spawns gallore, but I’d do 40 encounters of one target (for 40/4,096 or roughly under “1%”), move to another target and do 40, etc. It really did make it more fun to wonder which of the targets would shine being as Wild Area spawns changed each day per the weather!
I’ll be doing the Pokemon League today, then afterward I plan on starting the shiny roaming Cresselia hunt in the upcoming days. I’ve never had a game where I could hunt roamers, and since seeing your roamer quests, I’ve wanted to for a long time! Thanks for all the shiny hunting content-it’s really motivating!! 👊🏼

Alternating is a sick way to hunt starters (especially if you can’t decide which one you wanna hunt)

Alternating cuts your odds by 66% you have the 1/8000 chance of it being shiny on top of the 1/3 chance you pick the one that is shiny
No, that isn't true. The shiny is generated or not when you press A after confirming selection. The odds are 1/4096 too.

Good to see you hunting in the remakes! Last Friday I caught a shiny Arceus in Platinum, so this weekend I started hunting for shiny Giratina in SP. And, to get some variation, I'm hunting for shiny Zekrom in UM and Suicune in SS. Looking at the time each reset takes, I doubt Giratina will be the first to shine...
YESSS finally sonikks uploaded!!! you got me back into shiny hunting and just yesterday I got my first full odds abra in the leaf green gamecorner.
I'm currently going for Piplup in the original Diamond! Started a hunt for it a while back, and I dropped it soon after due to lack of motivation and getting an uncatchable Starly myself, but everyone going for the starters in the remakes has given me the will back to start it up again. Congrats on yours!

Just got my first shiny uncatchable starly after 1416 encounters and which was my first reset today. I wasn’t as upset as I thought I would be but after all this time I’m just happy to see something shine. I’ve also reached another new milestone in my shiny hunting career so there’s that at least. Here’s hoping I’ll get my shiny piplup soon too. And congrats on the shiny.
When you chose the first pokemon, the turtwig, you said there is a normal piplup it's like you predicted which shiny starter you got!

I absolutely don't do the voice recordings after the hunt. I'm not sure why you'd think that. It was just a mistake.

Great hunt I think the alternating shiny technique is really fun to watch!
If you liked doing the surprise shiny race, I’d recommend Ramanas Park for either the Regis, Latias/Latios, or the birds and dogs depending on which game. Save in front of the pedestal and keep putting the slate in each reset, it’s like a race to who shines first. It was awesome I did it with Latias and Latios and plan to do it for the dogs to! Awesome piplup though! I’m hunting them the same way you did with alternating starters
Poggg Congrats Steve! I've yet to find my starter (found a stinky brown birb tho) but i finished some older hunts like HGSS Togepi Egg(crazy stuff) and Sandyghast SR'S so that's nice.
Im sorry that it took so long. I got a shiny chimchar on 1202. Actually I was hunting for piplup but did 1 chimchar for fun and got it. Congrats to your Piplup

Super late with this comment but congrats on the Shiny Piplup! I'm actually in the middle of doing a Shiny Run of Brilliant Diamond myself! I got my starter to shine on New Years' Eve and I LOST my mind at the fact that I got it that day and in only 50 SRs!! Since then, I got a Shiny Wurmple in Eterna Forest that's now a Dustox and my Turtwig is now a Grotle. I'm looking forward to seeing what else I come across for my playthrough~ ^w^
I also wish you the best of luck in your Shiny Run in BD too! There's some pretty cool shinies in Gen 4 out there, so plenty of potential targets to choose from!
It's crazy how it's already 2021 and there's still such a thing as an uncatchable shiny (like Starly).

I got the shaymin yesterday and I’m doing a challenge where if I catch a shiny (none from trades) I buy that as a plush (shiny if possible)

I heard the crashes have to do with spamming the A button or something.

congrats. sincerely. but seeing all these shiny starters is so disheartening lol. I'm a seasoned full odds hunter but this one is pushing me to my limits. I'm only at 800 in the time i normally would have done like 7k.. i cant go to 3k on this one like you did i think i might actually give up and just not play this game before i do that as I'm not interested in playing w/o my full odds team.. as you can see its been very rough for me lmao I've never hated a hunt this much there's no reason we shouldn't be able to save in front of the dumb briefcase.

Anytips on how to keep up with your amount of SR? Im estimating im around 210 so far beings ive done at least 7hrs and can only squeeze 30 SR a hr
Don't focus on time. It's pointless. Keep going until it shines, simple. The odds are 1/4096. Distract yourself with streams, Netflix etc. Do what you usually do but shiny hunting as well.

@@reokagro I did after roughly 2000 sr.... Then promptly lost it a month later when my switch was destroyed... And because I didn't have a memory card or cloud back up I've lost it and will have to get it again eventually.... Hahaha. *Physically in pain

I am doing chimchar , I am over 6 days and one un catchable starly so far ! After I got my starly I turned my game off and played hgss to ev train I got a shiny psyduck in 15 encounters mostly
This is my first time full odds hunting so far i've gotten, full odds mareep, full odds dialga and full odds registeel
Last time i was here my counter for Turtwig was on 1500... now im back here with a counter of 3350 :(
