- The second of the Kami/Weather trio in Black and White has been obtained. I went to 14,000+ for Thundurus so I was blessed with a much shorter hunt this time with Tornadus. I do think these are kinda underrated as far as shinies go. They’re really interesting Pokemon with a good amount of lore and creation put into them.
If you’re curious about hunting these yourself, I recommend you obtain the form before hunting as it’ll really speed up your resets. I used Johnstone’s video on the 3DS app Dream Radar, reverted them to their normal form using the Reveal Glass, and then sent them to Black and White. They really scaled down the roamer mechanics in Gen V with the community referring to these as pseudo-roamers. Their location is limited based on the time of day and you can see which route yours will be on and when here; bulbapedia.bul...
Sadly roamers have all but left the series at this point as they went even further in Gen 6 by near-enough removing them (and they’re locked in Gen 6 so who cares really…)

So funny how this thing can make it suddenly go from snowing to raining in the winter! Major congrats on the Tornadus - a hunt that's a perfect example of how genius the 5th gen UI is for letting you register anything

Really? This shiny is so obvious to me.
Admittedly I do find it tough to distinguish the regular and shiny as I never invested to hunt them before. I guess it probably is the shiny being lighter or darker vs the original
I think they're quite different, the regular one is purple and is considerably brighter, whereas the shiny's tail and all the spots on its body are a totally different color (a navy blue), but I think because the 2D sprites are much smaller, the differences don't pop as much but in the 3D models they're very distinct looking to me.
I LOVE THIS SHINY- the navy bluish color is super nice compared to the purple for me. Congrats! You're definitely my favorite shiny hunter; you're so dedicated to your hunts, and it's honestly amazing. Once again, congratulations!! 💜💚💜

In my case, I’ve selected Oshawott, Lilligant, Cofarigus, Galvantula, Mienshao, and Hydreigon as the team I hope to gather, but so far I’ve just got Oshawott 😅

After those crazy long roamer resets in 3rd/4th gen, seeing how straightforward this one is made me feel relieved for you lol. I thought everything was shiny locked in Gen 5, interesting the cloudy bois are not
Only reshiram, zekrom and the event pkmn are locked. So luckily you can still hunt everything else

Good luck buddy wish I could shiny hunt I never have the patience I start it and do about 500 or so resets and get tired of it lol ive only found 3 shines in almost 17 years of playing (since fire red came out)

I'm glad this hunt was a quick one for you after how long Thundurus took. Congrats on the shiny! Personally the weather trio aren't my favourite, but I can definitely get behind a shiny hunter getting their target, I'm a big fan of that!
Congrats on the nice shiny and a quick hunt. I hunted this last year in June and got it near the end of August after 23,774 SRs and caught it in a Nest Ball which was kinda annoying 😅 One thing I always found strange was that it uses Thundurus' cry when in the Route 7 encounter.
Congrats on shiny Tornadus!!! I plan on hunting for Thundurus in my DTQ for White when I ever start it, so I look forward to that day. Also I remember playing a randomizor for White and I battled a NPC who had Ice Burn on one of their pokemon, so that was when I found out some B2W2 things were still coded into W1B1

Do you need to have tornadus registered before you hunt or can you check the dex after the cutscene? If I do need it, where can I get one?
Congrats on another amazing shiny! I actually succesfully hunted the Weather genies last year, but all three in USUM (static encounters) and not filmed. So I guess it doesn't count? ;-)
I already did the dream radar to set up this hunt for when I reset my black and white copy and play through those again. Such a cool hunt

I actually really like these shinies, for some reason. Black and White were such underrated games... makes me want to shiny hunt in them again (to be honest I have terrible luck with the starters, and I really want a shiny Snivy or Tepig). The best thing about such shiny hunts is that you can’t fail catching it. That’s what I’m most scared of when finding a shiny legendary.

Shiny locks didn't exist until gen 5. HGSS is gen 4.
@Masonio trades are shiny locked in gen 4 from what I know however, eggs are not

Thank you. Not sure I agree though. Do you mean in the Unova dex? Even then, I don't think it's true. Zorua, Zoroark & Larvesta are egg exclusive. The genies have a very annoying jump-through-hoop setup of getting one registered in the dex before hunting it (for efficiency) but it's not too bad with the Dream Radar.

Good thing you got it way before the 8000 odds, the cutscene is time consuming.
This is the same guy who watched the Sinjoh Ruins cutscene over 28,000 times to complete his trio. He's on another plane of existence when it comes to patience.

I’m trying to shiny hunt for tornadus as well. It’s my favorite out of the 3 🧞♂️. I’m trying to catch mine in a safari ball cuz I think it would look good with the colors.

I did this hunt at least 5 years ago in both games to see which one I would get first. I got Tornadus and I don't think I'm gonna do it again lmao

It isn't and this would make the hunt a lot more tedious as you'd have to encounter it every time instead before softresetting. So it's possible but without the help of the Pokedex it just takes a lot longer.

Oh so thats how you shiny hunt these. I actually wasnt sure on how it worked before and hadnt risked it until i could find a definitive answer. Also i think people dont like them mainly because they look very similar and are essentially colour swaps with slight differences in design. Yet people still hate Vanillite for being unoriginal well look at these 3
