Hey beautiful lady! I was so happy to see you back, and sharing a video with us.
You are such an inspiration to the rest of us that struggle with depressive episodes.

So glad to see you back. Sorry you had a back set with depression. I go through some myself. At bed time. I ask God to give me the want to. Want to get out of the recliner.. Get bills paid.. Clean at least one room. And He does. Most of the time I will take the next day. Busy as a bee. But the sad thing is. I have the want to in my mind. I don't have it in my heart. I will be sending up prayers. Asking God to give you the want to. Enjoyed your video. You are a sweetheart to your family.

I love to watch your videos - they make me feel so good. Many years I struggled with pain and depression and my child had to live in clutter as I was physically and mentally unable to keep up. Thankfully she is a well-adjusted adult now and I love to go to her house and visit and "catch her up" on her laundry and cleaning. Love your spirit lady - shine on!

Wear the shoes!!! Shine the sink!!!
You have got this. Practice makes a routine happen. Soon, you will be doing your morning, afternoon, and night routine, not the flyladies. I did her routines. Learned it all, then made it my own!! Keep it up, you look great.

I’m glad your feeling better and are getting back on your routines. May I make an observation that has helped me recently! I’ll assume you said yes 😂 I often remind myself when it comes to these systems and routines that they weren’t always designed for homeschooling families. They assume we will clean an area and it will stay clean the rest of the day/week 😂 While I love having a good routine, don’t become a slave to one or feel like you e failed if you fall off. You’re doing an awesome job as a mom, teacher and homemaker. ❤

I think that's an excellent point and so funny how you presented it too! 😂
FlyLady is not for me but I was able to get on board with The Organised Mum Method (T.O.M.M.). You do your Level 1 (daily basics) and then just 30 minutes in the zone of the day with weekends off from those Level 2 tasks.

@@jennyjenkins877 yeah, I'm somewhere between Dana K White and TOMM, FlyLady was super stressful when I tried it.....

    @jennnance867 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I sooooo appreciate you! I often fall off the band wagon and feel stressed over it, like I can never complete the system for a complete day and wonder what is wrong with me!? You never make me feel like a failure and show me that not putting it off until the next day is possible even if it's not perfect, thank you! I'm going to work on this.

  • @robyn-mareepenny2926

This system seems great. I'm struggling with poor mental health plus a loved one in hospital 4 hours away and trying to hold down a part time job and it all seems like too much. At the end of the day I just sit and watch TH-cam until it's bedtime. I'm going to try the app as it will help me feel like I am actually managing something well. You've got this girl. Just open the app in the morning and let it guide you through the day and you'll feel like you're managing better in no time at all. Great effort, especially the evening routine. I sure need this too my friend. Just seeing you back lifted my spirits and I'm sure Jesus would thank you for that, cos I'm hard work for Him at the moment, I'm sure. love you and Jesus loves you too xx

I raised 4 children and by the time mine were your age they would help me keep control of the chaos. We had a routine we called a mass clean. Each person has a job such as pick up, duster, sofa digger etc. Mom ran the vacuum and coached. We would go from room to room until the whole house was back in order. We were good and fast. We would do the whole house in about 20 minutes. This usually happened before we went out for activities in the evening. I was able to do dishes, laundry and deep cleans in those in between spots of the day. I was able to finish college and teach full time because my kids were able and willing to help me. The two things I think that really made this successful was that mom worked right along with the kids and the kids became more mindful of the mess they were making during the day and so there became less and less to do. My kids are all grown college educated adults with professional careers with families of their own. I sometimes visit and watch them mass clean with my grandchildren. I feel building those skills of taking care of the family home were the first skills of them becoming confident, self reliant individuals.

    • @juliewright1895
      @juliewright1895 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think it’s great that you and your children had that system and you were so successful but I’m not sure that your comment was overly helpful in the context of this video. Shannon had just shared that she was just coming out of a depression episode. It’s tough to jump back in after that but she was doing it. She has shared how her children work with her in previous videos. In this video, she did mention that they were unloading the dishwasher and that much of what she was doing was in snippets of time during homeschooling. It’s a lot to manage a home with homeschooling and all of the mom tasks (we’re currently in our 20th year) especially when dealing with depression and a chronic illness. I totally believe that good systems make life so much easier after they are mastered. I applaud Shannon for jumping back in and having the humility to share her struggles here with us in hopes of helping others.

If you or your family will eat salads, prep as many of the things as you can ahead of time. I get a pound of spring greens and make 5-6 salads at once. You can put them into individual containers and put the drier additions right in there, or put add-ins in separate containers so that everyone can put together their own salad bar salad. Chopped peppers will last a week if put in a container with a paper towel on the bottom. Cucumbers are best added last minute. I do a large batch of boneless skinless chicken thighs at a time, chop and freeze in 3-4 oz. packets for protein. Other great ideas: chopped onions, chopped fresh mushrooms, radishes, celery, boiled eggs, slivered almonds, cashews, dried cranberries, chopped apples, raisins, strawberries, blueberries, chopped fresh broccoli or cauliflower, grated raw beets, grated carrots, . . . I would wait and add the beets just before eating unless you don't mind your whole salad being reddish-purple! My daughter makes 6 salads every weekend and has them for lunch all week, only adding cucumber and dressing at the last minute.

Welcome back! Glad you’re feeling better! My son played all kinds of baseball for a good 11 years. I kid you not, we lived at the baseball field! On some teams, all is mom’ got together and took turns bringing dinner for parents and players, I know that’s a lot. Some of the meals were spaghetti, tacos, burgers, etc. individually, some things I would take were salads, sandwiches, soup in thermoses, go through a healthier choice drive thru, veggies/ranch, cut up fruit, nuts, etc. Hope that helps. Enjoy! Those were some of the BEST years of our life!!!⚾️❤️

Glad to see your videos again 😊. My go to put of the house meals are wraps, salads, sandwhichs, cold pizza if the kids like that, Crackers, fruit, if you have a hot flask you can put hot dogs in boiling water in that to keep them hot and take some buns with you and ketchup.

So glad you're back and feeling better! Clothes for the next day, yes the pile counts, lol. I think pbj is always a good choice for food on the go. Cheese and crackers, fruit, carrots and celery with or without dip are good in my book. A small cooler with drinks and perishables, note I said small cooler because I brought a large cooler once and discovered my younger son was selling the drinks, lol. Enterprising little stinker that he still is. I'm relatively new to your channel, but have watched all your videos. Your voice is so soothing. I watch a video every day. I promise I'm not a stalker, but it's somehow comforting and relaxing to watch your videos. Thank you for taking us on your journey. Take care, Linda 🦋

Just wanted to say I'm amazed that you were able to do all those things in one day. I know that at the end of a long day my brain is fried and tells my body to just veg. I also wanted to say rock on to your husband. It's nice to see a man who takes an active role in his family.

Hi Shannon! Neighbor in Louisiana here! I have three grown children and spent a lot of time at the ballfields! Idea for you which was brought up here is pasta salad. You can do a lot with that. Even put in separate containers for the kids. Don’t forget forks ! Also I was thinking lunchable style in containers. meats, cheeses, pickles, fruits, crackers etc. cookies to go or have a dessert when you come home . Hugs!

I think you did an awesome job. I remember when my kids were little and all the ballgames, band and other things. It is hard. Go easy on yourself if you don't get it done everyday, just keep moving forward. Not sure if Flylady said it or one of her followers but my new mantra is Don't let perfection be the enemy of progress. I think of that every time I think of giving up. You are doing great.

For meals to take to the ballpark
You could make your own burgers of course
    Walking tacos
Sloppy joes : just assemble when you get ready to eat so the bread/bun doesn't get soggy.
Baked ham and cheese sliders: ( we use hawaiian rolls but I bet you could use your own bread
BBQ sandwiches : assemble them when you are ready to eat
Grilled chicken : I would make a Caesar salad including the dressing , cut up the chicken in strips and throw it into the salad.
Tortilla Roll ups : put whatever you like in them
And of course all the different salads: egg salad, ham salad, tuna salad, pasta salad and pimento cheese sandwiches

Hi Shannon ! I hope your doing well ...and the rest of your family as well ! You are so encouraging to me ! I suffer from depression and I also suffer from insomnia as well ! I rarely have the energy to get anything done ! But I try to push through and ask God to give me the strength to get at least something done ! I've been sick recently and I can always tell when the house suffers .... My husband works full time as a truck driver so he is always tired when he gets home of course so a lot of most of the cleaning comes down to me .. he is very helpful to me though especially when I'm not feeling my best ! I love your channel and always look forward to seeing another video ! Don't get down on yourself when you can't get anything done it happens to the best of us and it's ok ... That's what I tell myself too ... We can only do what we can ! Your awesome for the encouragement ! Thank you

I find that doing 10 minute pick up in the evening is beneficial. And I clean my sink when the dinner dishes are being done. Perhaps you should consider lengthening the 2 minute clean up to 10 and see how that works for you. Keep up the good work Shannon! You got this girl!

Yeah Shannon 👏👏👏 you got all the routines done. I’ve been doing Flylady for a long time and hardly ever get everything done each day. It used to bug me & I felt like a failure. A genius idea another sports parent told me about…if your van has an outlet that is. She would take her crockpot full of chili, spaghetti, whatever and plug it into the outlet in the van and have a bit of a tailgate dinner that way.

Hallo Shannon!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and I’ve noticed that it helps A LOT if I wear tennis shoes while doing my chores. I don’t wear out nearly as fast. Helps the feet and knees from tiring out so fast!
Edit to add: my go-to sports meal growing up was my mom’s easy pasta salad- tri color rotini noodles with ranch dressing, cut up ham or bacon, and garbanzo beans! It’s so good and good fuel 🙂

Thank you for posting this! I need to get back into a cleaning routine. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 12 years. 6 months ago, I got pregnant completely out of the blue. Sadly, I had a very early miscarriage. The first few months I dealt with a lot of anxiety/panic, and I cleaned as a way of distracting myself from the anxiety. But the last few weeks, I've been feeling really sad/depressed and doing anything is such a struggle. I do have to say I prefer feeling sad to feeling anxious because living in fight/flight mode 24/7 is just horrific. But being so down makes it soooo much harder to get things done. I'm sorry you've been in a depression episode yourself, and I appreciate your videos because they help to motivate me on days when I don't want to get out of bed.

Love the pink shoes!! You did a great job of not going overboard and just being happy with 2 or 5 minutes better. It will add up over time. Have you ever watched Diane in Denmark? Warning she is a bit over the top happy but she breaks down fly lady so well. It the small consistent steps not the marathon cleans that make a lasting difference. Good luck I’m cheering for you❤

Baseball food: wraps! i know making a homemade tortilla might be a stretch but you can probably find some good ones (i like Ezekiel brand). the wrap is self-contained and doesn’t require utensils. that and some fruit, perhaps, and you should be set.
you can fill your wraps with all kinds of things hummus, salad veggies, beans, sunflower seeds, etc., etc

For ball game food, you could do a crock pot meal cooking overnight and then it would be done in the morning. We did tons of sports and just ate food cold mostly and didn't care. You could also prep and freeze sandwiches in individual bags. I always used a whole loaf of bread and put the individually wrapped sandwiches back in the bread bag to organize them in the freezer. A Pullman loaf pan is great for homemade sandwich bread.

My sweet husband made me a veggie melody for dinner with the vegetables we planted in our garden while he had his leftovers of Corned Beef and the fixings (can’t eat cause of the way it’s made)
But the veggies were a delightful surprise!!

Meal ideas: rice or pasta salad, “French style”: the base is tuna, oil (preferably olive oil) and vinegar added to the rice or pasta, then it pretty much depends on the mood of the day when it comes to other ingredients: hard boiled eggs, olives, tomatoes, avocado, canned corn, diced swiss cheese, you name it. Very satisfying and different each time. You can use any kind of pasta, or either white or whole rice so that makes for a variety of salads, all with a similar base. 😉

I have been doing that every night and sometimes if there’s a few dishes, I will wash them by hand but first I will have my daughter empty the dishwasher and the reason I got started doing that was because I had some symptoms of MS and my husband and my daughter were doing all the chores for me and I felt bad so after I started feeling better, I started helping out and making sure I had the dishes done and counter as well

Wow, the app is amazing!!!!! I spent some time customizing it to my own zones. My 12 and 14 year-old girls help me with the zones so I bet they’re going to love checking things off of the app rather than our clipboard! My 12-year-old wanted her routines on the app too, but she doesn’t have a phone yet. I bet this will be something helpful for her in the future, because she has ADHD, and as much as I hate it, she just gets technology, and she’s drawn to it. She isn’t drawn to her clipboard where I have her routines written down, lol! 😂 Thanks for sharing about the app!

    Well you look great.
I heard of this thing called a snackle box, where you use a tackle box and essentially put charcuterie type of stuff in it and snacks.
Another great idea is the Hawaiian rolls sandwiches.
Literally cut the whole sheet of bread squares at once, put your meat or topping on them,
put the big sheet of tops back on and cut in between,
it goes right back in it original package to travel with.
Its apparently a beach day hack.
You can prob find option ideas for both, that i mentioned.

I love that you can schedule laundry. The FlyLady Plus app is amazing and you can customize it to fit your needs. I just did a complete walkthrough of how to do it. I'll be honest, I rarely layout my clothes. Shining my sink and making my bed make me feel like I've got my shxt together! Funny that I started filming (and timing) my cleaning to force me to keep up with it all. It works to motivate you! I sub'd and hope to cheer you on as you fall back in love with this system.

So good to see you! Want to say thank you! You have been such a positive light for me with house chores over this past year. I no longer put things off. I started asking myself why put it off when I can just do it now. It’s changed my world. I no longer have piles of to do things all over my house. My next challenge is to get my kids to change their mindset also. Using the OHIO method (only handle it once) is key. Like why throw your coat and backpack on the floor when it’s in your hands just hang up your jacket and put your backpack in it’s spot? Anyway, you are an amazing lady and hope you continue sharing your journey with us. ❤

Food to go is --get some low carb tortillas, roll up with some quality turkey (or other fav meat) add lettuce, cucumbers & other veggies you like. Do some bento box type meals -- grapes, cheese sticks, pulled chicken, crackers, celery & carrot sticks. Make egg bites (the world according to egg face website has plenty of different recipes). Sw(yoap lunch and dinner -- make traditional lunch box meals for dinner and make a hearty dinner type meal for lunch. Great suggestion is to get a Hot Logic -- they have small or casserole size -- put your meal in there it will heat it to 165 and hold it. My sister cooks chicken breasts, my nephew is a truck driver and he uses it on his truck for meals. You can take it in the van with you and let it cook away. A few burgers in it with a salad and rolls in the cooler provides a nice quick meal during the break between games.

Wraps or burritos made with gluten free or low carb tortillas are a convenient food. On cold evenings some soup in a thermos and cup with a sandwich is nice. And of course air fried chicken and potato wedges are a good game food. Potatoes are definitely inflammatory though.

Good morning beautiful Shannon! I've been thinking about ya, and hoping you were doing well, glad you had a good energy day! I wish I was more successful at routines, but I kinda suck at them, the only one Im good at is morning coffee 🤣 Yes, anti-inflammatory is definitely a thing...I have rheumatoid arthritis too, like another commenter, and I've recently started a new 'diet', well Im not supposed to call it that, lol, 'lifestyle change', lol, but anyways, and sadly, lol, its noticeable in my joints what getting rid of sugar and a lot of like bread carbs does, probably corn too, ...its not very easy though Ill admit, but it does make me feel better, so Im still undecided if I should keep it up, but maybe something to consider though...I hope this good energy sticks around with ya for awhile! Thanks for another enjoyable video, and have a great day! 🌞

Go girl!!!! You did great!!!! Yes use that timer! You’re right two minutes did make it better! Whole idea is mini progresses so you don’t burn out and do nothing! I used to be marathon cleaner taught to me by my mom. Breaking up zone cleaning works so well for me now since I just don’t have the energy to go more than a half hour. I find my house is cleaner actually because I have time to focus in deeper clean tasks when breaking the zone down thru out the week. Been thinking about you! Keep going!! You’re doing great!!! Big hugs!!! //ps I like the idea of the thermos idea (those shorter insulated cups work great too. I put boiling water in them first to warm them up then dump and fill w food). Could a slow cooker meal be divi’d up in the thermos cups and taken to game? Cheaper and more nutritious. More hugs! ❤❤❤❤ Em
