In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

If you're a teacher, you "get" this; you see the practicality of it, and you understand the beauty & truth of the speaker's description of the reality of classrooms. I'm a high school teacher, and really appreciate how this video doesn't provide a list of what to do, but rather a way to view the task(s) before us. Getting students to be busy is easy, Getting them to sit, listen, read, think, reflect, thoughtfully annotate texts, question, and share is the magic & charge of teaching that so many don't realize is our daily charge and goal. Thanks.

I met Michael Strong in 1996 at AR's first national conference in Nashville. I cancelled another seminar to retake the seminar I had just finished, and then I took that practice to my seventh grade classes. Too scared at first to go all out...it was simply too beautiful and clear to be real...I opened it to one class. After some prep that Strong sets up, I set aside the next day for a Socratic discussion. At the end of 45 minutes as the bell time approached, I called the class to order and noted for their shocked and surprised ears: "I don't know if you noticed, but I have not spoken for 45 minutes." I opened it to all classes and now use a variation in my Adult Education classes. At first, some students are still very angry; tell us the answer, they clamor. They come around. The teacher is the adult. The teacher is the thinker. Leading by strong and consistent and loving patience will bring students around. The Habit of Thought is Strong's book.

I also shared struggles with parents and students yearly as they grasped to understand why I didn't give answers to students, but instead expected students to debate and support their own perspectives. THIS is true learning! I couldn't teach any other way.

"The disruptive technology is YOU" is one of the coolest and most empowering ideas I´ve heard. This was a very good TEDxTalk.

13:22 "No matter how allegedly smart, expert, mature, or whatever, people are, no one can see all of reality. Reality is infinitely complex. And because reality is infinitely complex each of us has a personal obligation to learn an accurate expression of our relationship to that reality and tell the world about it. *If you don't tell the world what reality is like for you, you're going to have the equivalent of planes crashing into mountains.*"

"True wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” - Socrates. "Learning never exhausts the mind." - Leonardo da Vinci. Mr. Michael Strong, astute edutainment talk. Thank you! Cheers.

Michael Strong traveled to San Antonio to teach workshops, in which I participated, around 1996. I have been using what he taught us in the classroom for the last 20 years. In addition, I have found that my administrators have appreciated the questions that would pose, recognizing the value of the dialogue that ensued.

Every individual has the responsibility to take ownership of their thinking, motivation, speech and action and their mind-body; cultivate themselves in ways that the harmful conditioning by authorities, culture, race, gender, guild and such lose their hold on us, so culture, community and society can evolve and consciously renew itself as part of the web of life.

This is wise human being. as a student of the News Testament I can find many of his thoughts scriptural. Did the preceding offend you if so why? My inner genius tells me I will copy the thoughts of a true genius. Because It affirms my view of what it is truly beautiful.
Einstein said, “Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity to life.” He thought that we are held captive by our egos. He explained that we find meaning and hope by “widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” And in my opinion the most beautiful thing a human can do is produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Love
    Joy. Peace,Patience,Kindness,Goodness,Faithfulness,Gentleness
Self-control. Of course to produce traits is not easy but the reward for doing so is a can lead to and more peaceful world. Science is the road to knowledge but not truth itself.

I don't know why the comments below are so unaware of history, eastern attitudes versus western, how the ancient greeks started us down the road of analyzing stuff without referring to authority or religion, etcetcetc. The Athenians beat back the overwhelmingly larger oriental Persians, because individuality, & fighting for their own not some king of kings, etc gave them an imperative that "slaves" simply won't go that extra mile....unawareness of what the presocratic & socratic philosophies & aristotelian philosophies, opened so many doors for humanity that happened NOWHERE else in the world! historical understanding is so poorly taught & understood!!! but I am not sure any of the quickie tedtalks on philosophy-slash-BUSINESS people, yuk. psychobabble me thinks. :(

What a novel idea. It is sad that education has been so perverted, we now have to teach kids critical thinking. Think for yourself.

how did you come to the conclusion that north korea is a dictatorial country? because a copilot couldnt tell a pilot about the plane crashing,? i work in a compnay in the U.S i cant tell my boss wrong, he always like to be right even if he is wrong, does that make U.S a dictatorial country.
