Of course it was. He wrote this years ago when he was writing for SNL and Stefan...But they didn't let him do it then. Now that he's comedy royalty, pretty much what he says goes. That's why I can't wait for this Saturday!
Also, notice that this show focusing on mom-incest is on at Saturdays 10am (prime-time kids viewing) :D
if he wrote it he would've hit those lines a little better

Cecily's expressions as the skit got crazier and crazier were excellent. Her horrified look sold the skit completely.
She is really good at playing the sane person trying to figure out how exactly to respond to crazy.
You’re right, she did do a great job. I couldn’t help but notice how little this script gave her to do.
Being the “straight man” in a sketch is more than just a series of reactions.
The portion given to Mulaney are well written and well performed,and I think that an even better script would have involved a more well rounded representation of the straight man’s perspective.
She's the best. The more serious she is, the funnier the scene.

The way Cecily switched to a different question card was phenomenal. It's the subtle physical comedy that takes it to that level of sheer brilliance.

A few years ago, Disney made a musical Freaky Friday where the mom was hitting on a high school kid, kind of blatantly.

@@ironwraith852 Nooo!! The mom didn't hit on a teen in that movie. Although at one point the mom in Lindsay Lohan's body kissed a teen so that he'd be interested in her age appropriate daughter rather than Jamie Lee Curtis's body.

I remember “Switcheroo” being my favorite show back when I was a kid. Didn’t realize all of the jokes just going right over my head lmao. It’s too bad there was only one season. It had so much potential. :(

@@katiechisholm What are you talking about? I watched it when it was on prime time, and then the other 2 seasons that got picked up by the syndicates. In season 3 the dad hits puberty and things got really interesting!
@@jameslarimer9211 To be fair it WAS on like, 5 channels and most of them cancelled it after season one. I remember actually finding out there was more! I AM gonna say that season 2 was kind of a low point though. That one scene with Cindy behind the bleachers... no amount of actual bleach can make me forget
@@zodiackitten6110 Yeah it really is sort of a cautionary tale regarding jumping the shark. When they introduced Raquel Welch as the divorced neighbor/Femme Fatale and every new episode was another switcheroo, you could smell the desperation. Gotta say, though, in the season 3 premier when the mailman switcherood with Vinnie the cop was possibly the only truly good episode of the series. C. Thomas Howell's performance really brought it all together.

Honestly my favorite character, playing off the old “lonely wives cheating on their workings husbands with the milkman” archetype but with using the mailman in a will-they, won’t-they with the mom not because her husband works, but because he keeps refusing to have sex! It was a brilliant twist on the trope. But yeah I gotta agree, him switching with the cop was the best episode. Like, we knew mailman Jimmy slept around, but discovering through Vinnie’s eyes that he ran a prostitution ring? And Vinnie bumbling his way through trying to take legal action against it, WHILE the mailman actively sabotages him in his own body AND trying not to ruin the poor women’s lives? Extremely progressive for the time, but somehow they made a hilarious comedy of errors out of it! It perfectly set the tone for the rest of the season, somehow made the single episode feel like a feature film, and the way it came full circle when (spoilers for those who haven’t seen season 3 of Switcheroo) the ring finally got exposed when the son used it to try to explore his puberty-changed feelings by having sex with someone other than his mother! And the neighbor clearing his charges so he’d owe her something… Brilliant stuff, man, brilliant stuff… They made great use of Vinnie’s fear of dogs in that episode, too!

I missed the Andy Cunanan joke but the part that I did NOT miss was how the family friendly plot of Freaky Friday absolutely necessitates a single mother. I mean, Big pushed it a little bit but not with the mom.
I never watched the remake, but in the original Freaky Friday movie, the dad was in the movie and they were still married.
Yeah and even Back to the Future had that weird subplot where the mom was in love with her son when he went back in time. Wtf was up with these 80s movies??
It’s been a while since I watched the remake of Freaky Friday but I remember the mom being engaged and about to get married. I think they switch back at the rehearsal dinner or something. They definitely glossed over the creepy parts but it was part of the plot.

I sing the theme song to Switcheroo to myself so often I'm almost convinced it was a real show

It's weird to me that Mulaney wasn't offered a cast spot originally. He's one of the better actors in the entire run of this show.

The fact that the time slot is Saturday’s at 10 am is such a wonderful detail.
Beck’s delivery of “Oh my god” is what keeps me coming back to this hilarious sketch.

the thing with switcheroo... it was an incredibly well written show. The topics where ghastly, but they had one of the most talented writing staffs of the time.

Makes sense. After all, Trump is the first president to talk about how sexy he thinks his daughter is.
But that's also a burn on how TV shows (particularly this one at times) and movies cram politics (specifically identity politics and anti-conservative rhetoric) into their works, often at the expense of actual humor or engaging storytelling.
To be fair with Trump... I can definitely bang Ivanka, my little advantage is that she's not my daughter.

@@beruangsinar1033 I think hes talking about shows that were made with no political commentary involved, and even if they were they were just for a few episodes, like a generic 50's sitcom being remade and half of the episodes are "boo, trump!" or, "boo! biden!"
I just noticed that, on the "night to try" clip, it says Saturdays 10 am. That means that this "aired" during Saturday mornings when kids would be watching TV.
