The whole point of You Can't Do That on Television was to introduce subversive kid humor to the masses. It was so popular, Nickelodeon used that aesthetic for its network after years of being an educational kids channel called Pinwheel.
It was Barth, which was certainly an allusion to that. Les Lye also played Senator Prevert, son you know they were big on puns sneaking crap past the radar.

This! Yes. I forgot her name. I remember Alistair, Alanis Morrisette's twin. And yes Cecily's look is spot on
I was surprised they didn't just call her Moose, since they showed a clip of Moose getting slimed.
Sherman is underused. She's got "it". Naturally hilarious.
Yes. She belongs.
Naturally obnoxious, more like it.
@@erikagray9883 def some of both for me. She's got sorts of jokes or characters she's naturally right for. I don't for-see her being especially versatile though
Is no one gonna mention chris taking off his mustache mid sketch? Lol
2:00 1980 indeed, you can't say THAT on TV no more! 😄😄😂😂🤣🤣😅😅😆😆😆
"PLEASE STOP"@ 4:05 That wasn't acting lol
omg this literally made my face hurt from laughing, everyone killed it 😂
Chloé taking cover while giggling is a mood!
Nostalgia skit for those who are in their early 40s rn
or early 30s cmon
@@estusflask982 Nah, the show they're making fun of was from the 80's. You gotta be in your 40's to remember it when it originally aired.
I'm nearly 50 and I remember it. So do people older than I am. Great show.
@@BeeWhistler 47 here and it was an amazing show!
and late 40s! I watched it all the time
Those of us in our 50s thank you, especially for the actual set-up clip from the show.
Arguably the 2nd best sketch of the night. . . Lots of breaking! The fact that @ 2:16 John was anticipating that slime burst and he could barely get by because of the slime on his glasses. Fun fact: John didn't want to say "Jesus Christ!"
Also at 3:35 that looks pretty ill-timed, unless they did it on purpose. . . Poor Chloe LOL!
I remember that show, Alanis Morrisette was on it!! And my parents wouldn't let me watch it because something about it was "not appropriate for children."
The whole point of You Can't Do That on Television was to introduce subversive kid humor to the masses. It was so popular, Nickelodeon used that aesthetic for its network after years of being an educational kids channel called Pinwheel.
@@canaisyoung3601 I remember watching Pinwheel and YCDTOT when I was a kid...somehow those shows had such an influence
@@NenaVA1 ♪ Pinwheel Pinwheel spinning around ♪
We had great kid's shows back then.
@@canaisyoung3601 I still snuck and watched it😁 That and Clarissa explains it all, my favorite.
Fun fact: the original slime on the show was chunky apple sauce.
It’s disturbing that John Mulaney actually looks like he’s in high school
This is spot on. The humor in that show was darker than It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
"Not that one, Not the pete you're thinking about "
We know he's not coming you don't have to rub it in
The “Jesus Christ” has be crying 😂😂 such a good skit
Same lol
I simultaneously went from extreme happiness to feeling really old when I recognized Moose from You Can’t Do That On Television 🤣
Every time they were saying please stop it wasn’t even acting 😂😭
This hits differently now after seeing "Quiet on Set".
2:18 "Why did they do it to me" that sent me bro. 😭
chris's moustache half-falling at 1:34 LMAO
Oh I loved that show when I was a kid! Bart's Burgers forever!
DarrrrrriiiiiiI heard that.
Also, I think it was Barf’s Burgers, no?
It was Barth, which was certainly an allusion to that. Les Lye also played Senator Prevert, son you know they were big on puns sneaking crap past the radar.
Les basically played everybody that wasn't the kids or the mom. He was Ross, the firing squad guy, the torturer, the dad, Barth. I think he was also an executive producer. I know he testified before the US Congress in defense of non-educational kids television.
@@thenotsoguitarguy9429 Les was the king. One of very few celebrities I'm bummed I never got to meet. The kids were great, but Les *was* that show.
Sarah’s hair when she gets slimed 😂😂😂
The adoption episode being a real thing is wild. So much of this is spot on.
Yep, it's on TH-cam at the moment and I can see why the creators regret that episode. It was funny, but definitely is far beyond where they probably should have gone with it.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade what's the video called?
Early malfunctioning slime is such a great concept for a sketch well done whoever thought of that
Didn't think I was going to be busting out laughing... I thought I was going to know when the slime was coming, lmao 🤣 but, I didn't. Great timing 😁
2:26 Sherman's bangs flipping up with the slime cannon killed me
I watched this live last night and I was dying of laughter the whole time
Anyone hitting this up after Quiet On Set?
Nickelodeon was the ish. I was born in '84 and an only child at the time. TV, books and music were my best friends. I learned so much and played so much, thanks to this awesome channel. ✨
There's an Nickelodeon documentary on Hulu, I think, y'all should check out. It took me right back there - To Pete & Pete to Clarissa Explains It All to Salute Your Shorts to Ren & Stimpy to All That. Omg, I want relive the joy of the early days of Nickelodeon right *now*. 😤
creepy how this pops up after the sickolodan & quiet on set.
