Watching you disassemble and reassemble this baitcaster was amazing. I was told that reel repair is a dying art. Nobody really does it any more. Most reels today are throw away's.
Thanks buddy. Yeah, I take great pleasure in maintaining my reels and seeing just how much smoother I can get them each year. A lot of my reels are several years old and are smoother now than they were brand new. Thanks for watchin!!

Thanks for making this video, you must be a teacher during your day job. I have some premium reels that I would not risk to open........until now. I practiced on a old E650PT Quantum, I got it now. Can you answer this.....Mechanically speaking what reel is built internally that out shines all other reels.
I'm not sure if you still are answering comments . I'm a new user of a bait caster . My grandfather had it before me and it only casts so far no matter the lure /weight ect , is that it needing to be cleaned well you believe ? I've done alot of research of line . Rods . Lures, reel settings and it still only goes so far .
@@TackleJunky81 I won't lie I have no idea how to do that . I was thinking maybe I'd keep this one as a show/ memories sake piece and get a new one to learn from .
Great video. You ever get that noise when your reeling in that sounds like the gears are dry? How can I eliminate that? Reel casts fine and drag is good. It's just hella noisey when I'm reeling. I remove the spool and no noise. Weird.
There is a washer under the bearing in the side cover and also another washer in the spool tension knob, the spool will rub on both of them, add a small drop of oil to those washers.
Just have one question, is the dye on the Hot Sauce grease the only reason you don't use it for the drag washers? Will it harm the drag washers? By the way, great videos will be doing my 3 baitcasters this week for the first hope don't screw it up.
Is the Shimano reel grease you use the star drag grease ? Which can be found on tackle wear house for $6 ? Thank you also , very very informative videos , always a thumbs up.
Quick question. Being as this video is seven years old. Do you still use the Hot Sauce, Oil, Shimano grease ? If so where can it be ordered from? Thanks Jim
I do, but I believe the hot sauce was discontinued for a bit, but then released again. I still use the Shimano as well and I picked it up at Tackle Warehouse last. Another option is Daiwa grease and Lucas oil...both at Tackle Warehouse and very good.
That white gear that you're talking about is probably like a nylon and I've never had any issues with them. It's not like it's the main gear that does most of the work. I'd imagine a lot of reels have that same type of gear on the worm gear. Thanks for watchin bud!!
Gears need more protection and as the reel lays to one side in the heat the oil will just run to one side. Grease will protect the gears much better and you won't have to re apply as often. I only grease my gears once a year.
Yeah I seen that. I looked on their page & they don't carry it. That's why I was asking. I greatly appreciate the response & the video. It broke my shyness on tearing a reel down. Keep doing good work
I did all this and when I put it back together my button does not come up after being pushed down. So I push the button down and when I turn the handle it doesn't pop back up like it should. I took it all back apart and can't find the problem please help
stabbed my fingers twice with a nice pocket tanto knife gave my self some nice drippers nothing a little old reel grease and gunk n grime wont help coagulate fast lol

My favorite reels are old Johnson reels. They don't make them like they use to.

A good cleaning will always help, or you could just upgrade the spool bearings.

I use abu garcia grease and lube and it does a pretty good job :) and thanks for the videos helped me out soooo much :)
No problem Zeb, glad I could help brotha!!
great vid... the thing you call a tooth is called a "pawl"...lol

As far as I know it shouldn't harm the drag washers. Appreciate you watching! 👊

***** Yes, that's the grease. I appreciate the view and the thumbs up...Thanks for watching!

thank you for the 3 part video!! question do you rinse the parts off in water after the degrease and then dry or no water?
Andrew James Yes, you can give them a good rinse. Then I blow them dry with a compressor.
can you do one at a time on a bait caster
Just wondering have you ever had problems with plastic gears?
That white gear that you're talking about is probably like a nylon and I've never had any issues with them. It's not like it's the main gear that does most of the work. I'd imagine a lot of reels have that same type of gear on the worm gear. Thanks for watchin bud!!
can you use the hot sauce on all including the drag and bail button? also the orange peelz on everything instead of the reel clean
I don't want the red dye on my drag washers, but you can use it on them if you want. I've only used the Oranj Peelz on bearings.
Great Video!
I got a tournament pro speed spool and the sidepalm wont assemble back on
how long do you leave your parts and bearings soak before drying ?
I just keep checking them to see when the grease is gone and then set them out to dry
what was the name of the degreaser you used to clean your bearings thanks
I use Ardent Reel clean or Oranj Peelz
If I used oil instead of grease on the worm gear, can I just add grease to it without cleaning the oil off?
I'd clean the oil off first...if anything you can just wipe it off.
How to diseamble the thumb bar?
Agree on the most of the stuff you do. Can you explain one thing though, what is the reason you put grease (and not oil) on the wormscrew?
Gears need more protection and as the reel lays to one side in the heat the oil will just run to one side. Grease will protect the gears much better and you won't have to re apply as often. I only grease my gears once a year.
Do you have a special kind of hot sauce you use? I have franks in the house and was wondering if that would work.
Its grease and oil, but called hot sauce.
Where did u get the container & screen?
Bass Pro, its an Ardent reel cleaning kit.
Yeah I seen that. I looked on their page & they don't carry it. That's why I was asking. I greatly appreciate the response & the video. It broke my shyness on tearing a reel down. Keep doing good work
what is the hot sause?
+Jesse Cantrell grease and oil.
Both hot sauce is nothing but ATF and high temp wheel grease
I did all this and when I put it back together my button does not come up after being pushed down. So I push the button down and when I turn the handle it doesn't pop back up like it should. I took it all back apart and can't find the problem please help
The washer under the main gear needs to be flipped over, teeth are pointing the wrong direction.
+TackleJunky81 thank you so much I was so worried
Great video dude.. I aprove. Perfect
Thanks brotha!!! Glad to have your approval, LOL!!!! TRL!!!!
TackleJunky81 Yes i approve! We get the job done and correctly.. And alot of videos on youtube for doing reels really need to be removed.. lol
