After I found out about ratcatcher from this video, it kinda pisses me off on how people would say a rogue is "too goofy" for the dark knight when most of the rogues gallery is nothing but goofy. Rats are pretty terrifying in and of themselves. They're rife with disease, can fit through a hole the size of a quarter, can climb their way into your toilet bowl from the sewer, and they can swim half a mile across open water among other things. A man who can control thousands of the things is pretty much already the most powerful villain in Batman's rogues gallery so a good writer can make him extremely popular.
@@nathancruz9172 I know and frankly I'm also excited for this new version of the ratcatcher because they have been the same character since their inception

I agree with everything about this analysis. Rat catcher is creepy and has potential to be a lesser rogue. I Just came from watching Rat Catcher 2 in the suicide squad and hopefully that film will give renewed interest in the character
You're right, one of the most underrated Batman villains. Plus one who is an actual threat! the perfect time for Matt Reeves to use rattcatcher that is as creepy as the joker or scare crow it's like if the court of Owls but balled into one person
The Ratcatcher is actually really, really, really cool and tbh: I actually like him. He's creepy and very devious and really loves rats. Still creepy tho.
Otis might appear in Gotham, especially since they focus more on the villains in later seasons. If they decide to bring him back for rebirth, I have the perfect backstory for him. When he was a young boy, Otis was abandoned on the streets, and forced to scavenge for food in order to survive. Eventually, he wound up in the sewers, and lived amongst the rats. As he got older, he learned to adapt to his surroundings, using cunning and teaching some of the rats to spy on people and bring him food. Now, he wants to take over Gotham, and kill all of the humans who "look" down on him and his rats. With no humans around, Otis and his "friends" will have Gotham City to themselves.
He would definately fit in 'Gotham' that's for sure. I really like your take on him, it's a bit similar to Penguin in 'Returns. Btw it makes a lot more sense with rats in the sewers than penguins.. Whatta hell were penguins doing in the sewers..

But since he is , so, since he becomes a recurring character, part of Violet's own bat-family/Team Arrow as the official "Guy in the chair" except that instead of a computer, he uses, cool rats. I liked him better as a villain, and as a good dude, he didn't get to do much... not sure about the design too, he looks like Timothy Spall as "Wormtail" in the Harry Potter movies ^^' I got used to it though.
I wish the Ratcatcher was in the Gotham TV series, he is such a dark and sinister villain that will really work for a dark and gritty tone for the show in a 2 or 4 episode arc that could've make a great story for Gotham. What a miss opportunity for that show cause he would've worked so well in the show that will make it better, its a shame the Ratcatcher doesn't showed up more often, cause he has the potential to be a really great villain, same goes with Black Mask, Calendar Man, and Maxie Zeus.
In the Arkham games, the rat catcher in arkham city was making a small smuggling racket in the prison through his rats. Penguin snuffing out his operation and dragging rat catcher into the iceberg lounge. Can take either the idea that he was fed to Penguin’s shark or was killed off by other means.
It would be cool if instead of the Ratcatcher getting in a fight that killed someone, it would be his questionable poisons, fuming up and killing someone instead
Honestly i always had a soft spot for old Otis Flannegan/Ratcatcher, The gas masked look, the Pied Piper whistle and his rat gimmick is perfect for a horror movie, sometimes I even hear John Kassir voicing the guy, I have his first appearance in the 80s and then I have his appearance in the prodigal storyline so i have three of his comics, i’ve also read his crossover story with catwoman and when he teamed up with mr.freeze.
Theory on why people think he;s a loser villain: He kind of had a radical shift from wanting revenge on people he saw as doing him wrong' to 'Gonna kill all the humans. MOST people in comics who have their lives ruined like that just become regular rob and raise hell type baddies. The swap to genocide and belief rats were better than people was a bit out of nowhere.
There is a character named Patrick in Batman Beyond who, like The Ratcatcher, can control rats and mice and had a crush on Terry's girlfriend, Daina. The TMNT villain, The Rat King, has the same ability as The Ratcatcher. 🐀
I feel like a great rewrite origin story for him would be something along the lines of being raised by an abusive father who was an exterminator, having Otis maybe feed and have a pet rat that he found only for his father to kill it when he found out his son was keeping it as a pet. He would then learn to control rats using a form of technology he invented and use it to kill his father with swarms if rats, then taking his father’s exterminator outfit and modifying it into his Ratcatcher costume. He would then pose as an exterminator and instead of killing rats for business he would control them to steal jewelry and valuables from his clients. Then after a confrontation with Batman he would eventually grow into a larger villain. He would heavily sympathize with rats as they were his friends as a young boy and he would see rats as the greatest animals because of how well they can survive in the worst conditions, much like he survived in an abusive household. He would see rats as the ultimate animal because of their ability to survive even though they are the most hated of animals, which would greatly stem from his childhood trauma.
Even better would be if his father FORCED him to kill his pet rat when he was a boy, making him snap and kill his father after killing his pet rat because of the pain it caused him.
To anyone saying he's cheesy, just remember: the black plague killed 1/3 of European population. Any villain can be threatening, all depends of the writer's writting talents.
Now here is a Batman villain that totally reminds me of The Rat King from TMNT, which was the very first thing that immediately came to mind when I discovered such an underrated villain for myself!
I've heard some people say that the Ratcatcher's costume actually appears in Batman (1989). It is said to be seen in the scene where Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox enter Bruce Wayne's armory. It makes me wonder if Tim Burton was aware of this character's creation while filming the movie and decided to put a little easter egg or if it's just some generic costume that happens to look like him.
I've heard that too. It's a fun fan theory, but I doubt it's true. I think it's supposed to be some WW1 styled military uniform, that seems more likely atleast.
Ratcatcher would have been great in the Arkham games. Even if they just had him show up in the sewers to have a short talk with Batman before escaping.
He exists in that universe. You could collect his bio in Asylum and City. In City, Penguin apparently fed him to his shark, Tiny. In the comic Arkham Knight Genesis, it was revealed that he survived, albeit with only one arm. He attempted to kill Hush because he thought he was Bruce Wayne, but the Arkham Knight electrocuted him to death, although the latter comic is apparently no longer cannon to the Arkhamverse, and it can be assumed that he survived Penguin’s shark. Still though, an actual appearance would’ve been cool. I would’ve liked to see him in a cameo in Arkham Asylum, maybe wandering the sewers to escape Killer Croc. And in Arkham City he could have his own side mission where he’s using rats to steal chemicals to poison everyone in Arkham City so rats can reign supreme, and you could track him down via the rats. Fighting a huge swarm of rats would’ve made for an interesting and unique battle too.
Would Deacon Blackfire be underrated or forgotten, but I think more forgotten bat-villain, but are you reviewing the cult story or the villain himself went you get your chance at him? Gotham rouges.
Ratcatcher somewhat "appeared" in the DCAU with Batman Beyond featuring the same gimmick. It'd be interesting to see how they adapt him in The Suicide Squad film.
He may seem unique among the bat rogues, but he reminds me of the Rat King of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He also first appeared in 1988 (One year after the 1987 TMNT cartoon). He still seems cool though. I think he isn't that goofy, and instead he seems really deadly.
Ratcatcher really is an underrated villain. He is just as life threatening potentially as Killer Croc and they share the same general environment. Otis is actually smarter than Croc and is thus much more able to be a beat down threat. I could see him in a Batman game as the main boss of a sewer level where you would have two villains to defeat with the obvious one being Croc and the Ratcatcher as the subtle one.
I wonder if they never used him in animated films or series simply because no one wanted to draw so many rats sounds like a nightmare to do. Especially in the 90s batman series.
I have a video idea for you. One on the Outsider, the big villain of the Sixties who isn’t well known due to how the arc originally ended. I even have some information for it.
I'm guessing people only saw the name and the ability to control rats and never thought beyond it or saw what he actually DOES. I can SEE controlling rats as sounding goofy but in reality this character is damn creepy and dark.
Ratcatcher is one of my favorite underrated Batman rogues and it is such a shame that people consider him a joke and for reasons I just can't wrap my head around. I mean, people find the Rat King from TMNT to be a legitimate villain so why not Ratcatcher? They are pretty much the same character in terms of themes and powers.
From those leaked pics it looks like Suicide Squad 2 is going to give us some flashbacks showing Rat Catcher 2 learning her trade from who I presume is her father.

Well it's rumoured he'll appear in James Gunn's _The Suicide Squad._
He is now a woman I hope they still make her super creepy
Imagine the ratcathcer and the scarecrow teaming up, that would be sick.
Neglected gem. Alan Grant is 2000ad royalty.
Would Deacon Blackfire be underrated or forgotten, but I think more forgotten bat-villain, but are you reviewing the cult story or the villain himself went you get your chance at him? Gotham rouges.
I dont know haha.. We'll see how I do it.
Suicide squad 2 brought me here rest easy
Milton
Ratcatcher somewhat "appeared" in the DCAU with Batman Beyond featuring the same gimmick. It'd be interesting to see how they adapt him in The Suicide Squad film.
Ratcatcher is one of my favorite villains and it sucks that he is so underrated
If done right he could be a b list villain I think.
Welp we got Ratcatcher II
Ratcatcher really is an underrated villain. He is just as life threatening potentially as Killer Croc and they share the same general environment. Otis is actually smarter than Croc and is thus much more able to be a beat down threat. I could see him in a Batman game as the main boss of a sewer level where you would have two villains to defeat with the obvious one being Croc and the Ratcatcher as the subtle one.
I wonder if they never used him in animated films or series simply because no one wanted to draw so many rats sounds like a nightmare to do. Especially in the 90s batman series.
Ratcatcher was great in The Suicide Squad
They used him in batman the imposter as a rat exterminator who became an unwitting accomplice of imposter batman.
"When the bat falls the RATS SHALL RISE"
I am finally satisfied
I love the breyfogle era, that man could draw Batman
He have potential, heck if DC/IDW make a third Batman/TMNT crossover he could team up with the Rat King.
Looks so cool in the new trailer
I wish the Ratcatcher was in the Gotham TV series, he is such a dark and sinister villain that will really work for a dark and gritty tone for the show in a 2 or 4 episode arc that could've make a great story for Gotham. What a miss opportunity for that show cause he would've worked so well in the show that will make it better, its a shame the Ratcatcher doesn't showed up more often, cause he has the potential to be a really great villain, same goes with Black Mask, Calendar Man, and Maxie Zeus.
Rat King from TMNT has a bone to pick with Rat Catcher! That would be a cool match up
Ratcatcher is actually really cool and yet very creepy. But has potential.
He controls rats with a special whistle
Too bad the name "Pied Piper" was already taken by a Flash villain
Not gonna lie, this guy has true potential... and looks way better than the rat mutant boy from Batman Beyond, thanks to his costume
Ratcatcher is one of my favorite villains.
He's going to be in a movie. I'm hoping this will make him more well known.
U got that in The Suicide Squad 2021 movie
Your voice sounds creepy, and I honestly say it as à compliment. It tottally suits this vídeo too.
I have a video idea for you. One on the Outsider, the big villain of the Sixties who isn’t well known due to how the arc originally ended. I even have some information for it.
the underrated rogue you could talk about is the psycho pirate
I'm guessing people only saw the name and the ability to control rats and never thought beyond it or saw what he actually DOES. I can SEE controlling rats as sounding goofy but in reality this character is damn creepy and dark.
Ratcatcher could be in gotham
Ratcatcher is one of my favorite underrated Batman rogues and it is such a shame that people consider him a joke and for reasons I just can't wrap my head around. I mean, people find the Rat King from TMNT to be a legitimate villain so why not Ratcatcher? They are pretty much the same character in terms of themes and powers.
Can you do a video on the Gentleman Ghost or Lord Death Man?
Perhaps!
Wished this character physically appeared in the arkham games. Would be like creepy mission like professor pyg
From those leaked pics it looks like Suicide Squad 2 is going to give us some flashbacks showing Rat Catcher 2 learning her trade from who I presume is her father.
And know he's in an upcoming film.
I'm here after I heard they are adding Ratcatcher in the upcoming Suicide Squad 2.
I've always wished Crispin Glover would play him in a movie. He practically already did in the movie Willard.
Very much a gem. That guy looks fucking creepy indeed.
