Fun fact about Fleetwood Mac, they are named for the drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, who also happen to be the only members of the band to have never changed.

A name was needed after a recording session that John Mayall had gifted them. The Singer/Guitarist Peter Green insisted on the name rather than his own. A remarkably humble man and one of Britain's most beloved guitar gods.

@@mojobag01 The story I heard was they didn't have a name when Green made use of the gifted studio time with Fleetwood and McVie. Green named one of the five songs they recorded together "Fleetwood Mac". Green convinced Fleetwood to form a new band, McVie was unsure. Green recruited Jeremy Spencer on slide and Bob Brunning on bass. Their initial gigs were billed as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer. After a few gigs, McVie committed to joining the band replacing Brunning.
Their first album in 1968 on Blue Horizon has both Fleetwood Mac (name of the album) and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (name of the band) printed on the record label. The back cover lists the songs under the heading "Fleetwood Mac" and the band members under the heading "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac". Bob Brunning is credited for playing bass on one track.
The US release on Epic only indicates Fleetwood Mac on the record label and the back cover contains the songs under the "Fleetwood Mac" heading. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and the list of band members is absent (at least the copies I've seen).

I believe Peter named it that way so when he left the band the name would not have to change.

I agree that the energy is a bit off but Stevie - just so beautiful and perfect vocals. I was 7/8 years old when this song came out- it was so huge that it evokes memories of car rides with parents, the dials of a million different radios, probably thousands of needle drops on our turntable, countless dinner parties my parents had when they were still young & when it was still a thing among middle class families in the 70s. Grew up singing it.

What is mind blowing is the fact that that this song she is singing is about the guitar player next to her, Lindsey Buckingham, after their breakup, yet there they are. They each wrote songs about each other following the breakup, some pretty clear, like Go Your Own Way.

Silver Springs live from The Dance tour is one of the most important performances y’all will ever witness. The Lyrics! Written by Stevie after her’s an Lyndsey’s final fight. You will see after so many years, the love and pain remains between 2 that just can’t be together.

yeah the band's named after Mick Fleetwood (drums) and John McVie (bass), the only ones left from the original band. Supposedly Peter Green (Black Magic Woman, Green Manilishi, etc) was the star & leader of the original band, but didn't really want to be so they named it after the other guys.

Great band and a top song from an outstanding album. Think they were at their peak here.
That's not to dismiss the earlier stuff , pre Buckingham & Nicks joining the band, with the fantastic Peter Green on board they were a truly innovative bluesy outfit. If anyone is unfamiliar with the earlier stuff, check out "Oh Well", "The Green Manalishi" , "Black Magic Woman" and "Man of the World" , guaranteed superb listening .

On the studio version, they probably have more instruments backing them up for a fuller sound than on stage. This was really nice. I enjoyed the harmonizing. They really focused on Stevie instead of the whole group. I'd rather they all got equal time on camera or panned out so we can see them all at once.

I'm only part way through it but I think what you're talking about on the guitar is at some point he was doing volume swells. I could explain it all day long or you could just look it up on Wikipedia, but it's an art form in guitar playing all of its own. And it was a big thing back then, I think one of the most mind-blowing examples of it is Alex Life song with Rush during La Villa strangiato. But it really did get used a lot by the brave, and even Adrian blue used it with the later era of King Crimson like with the red album that came out in 1980 or whenever that was. He did some of that extremely well on there.
And you have to understand too you can do this with a volume pedal, but the guitar plays I really like we're able to do it manually which was you use your pinky while you're playing and possibly even singing along, and you strike the string really hard where you roll the volume down for whatever pick up configuration you're on on your guitar, and then you artistically kind of roll the volume knob up, and it almost gives you the ability to talk like an animal or something. Usually it's pretty emotional.

Funner fact about this band…this song, along with the entire album, was about the end of their romantic relationships…
John ( the bass player and “Mac” in the band’s name) and his wife Christie McVie were splitting as were Stevie Nicks (lead vocalist) and longtime lover/collaborator Lindsey Buckingham (guitar)
“Dreams” is her response to his needing space…

I know what you mean about the chorus lacking vs. the studio version. I think it's the way the vocals are mixed. The main melody harmony is more buried in the live version because Stevie's not singing it. She has the high harmony so that becomes dominant as opposed to the main melody which I think is being sung by Christine.

It all started in 1967 when Peter Green replaced Eric Clapton with John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. Which also happened to include Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie. The name of the new band came after Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie started recording. There was a lot of musical chairs happening also; members leaving or being replaced during this time too. The original members were Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, Jeremy Spencer, Bob Brunning, and John McVie (and who also, later replaced Bob Brunning). Danny Kirwan joined in 1968 as a third guitarist, then Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined in the 70's. (I hope that helps some) Here's a pretty decent video of Peter Green performing on stage, if interested. "Peter Green's - Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well (colorized)" (channel: Seedy Jeezus) 😏(hey I don't name these video's, I just copy what's there) Loved rocking with you two fellas, thanks so much for sharing.

You're right. The band is named after the rhythm section. Drummer Mick Fleetwood and bass player John McVie. It was original guitarist Peter Green who wanted the name. Peter hated being famous and didn't want his name in the name of the band. It's hard to keep track of the lineups. There have been 14 different ones. The one you're reacting to here is considered the classic lineup. Stevie Nicks-lead vocals, Lindsey Buckingham-lead vocals and guitar, Christine McVie-lead vocals and keyboards, John McVie-bass and Mick Fleetwood-drums.

That song is about her lover and musical partner, Lindsey Buckingham, the guitarist in the white suit. The way I heard it, he fooled around on Nicks, turned bitter and sarcastic when she moved on, and was eventually booted from the band for mocking her in public. That said DO SILVER SPRINGS LIVE!!! Nicks said it's her favorite song, and you get to see her tell Buckingham off in song, right to his face. You don't see that all the time.

Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined them for their 10th studio album, which they named "Fleetwood Mac" - same as their debut album in 1968. Not a drummer so had no idea what Mick was doing but I always noticed the change on the studio version when the chorus kicked in. So thanks for explaining that. I always thought the vocals seemed to die on 'thunder' but l give them a pass as Lindsay is playing guitar, however the harmony is good. Speaking of harmonies l never noticed how great Stevie,Christine and Lindsay sound on together until this listen. So thanks again for a very stimulating reaction!

Kate Bush began writing songs at 11. She was signed to EMI Records after Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped produce a demo tape. In 1978, at the age of 19, she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song.

It is a much lower energy rendition than the studio album. Still, it’s a beautiful tune and beautifully done.

I agree that the studio version has more energy. Of course the band is incredible live but I always like their studio stuff better. So wonderful you guys are inspiring your family members to listen to new (old, lol) music!

The band was originally Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac , as they were all previously in John Mayall’s Blues Breakers. Listen to Mayall’s “ So Many Roads “ from the Hard Road album for incredible guitar/ horn powered blues ! Peter Green on Guitar after replacing Eric Clapton in the band .Y’all
Be the Judge who is better !

Lindsey has a great picking technique and is using volume swells on this one. I like both their old and this era (lost me after 1st 2 with this lineup). I do not care for the in-between stuff. Just me.

Yup. Stevie's $1 million dollar cocaine habit was so bad she burned a hole in her nose the size of a dime. And did a lot of other crazy things.
