14:31 that add out of nowhere 🤣
Yesir Bernard Hopkins like I recommended bro thx this man is a legend the executioner
Glad you got your energy back bro 😂💪 very excited to see some more reactions
9:53 he looks like batman there😂 he has that clean jaw line
The longevity of Hopkins is unmatched. He was competing for titles deep in his 40s, even being a champ at age 48 or so.
Roy Jones never won a title past 32. Taylor (the guy who took Hopkins middleweight title as a 26 year old) was done around 30 at world level. Hopkins never depended on athleticism and took little damage in most fights, that's why he lasted that long. He was a complete package, the only thing he didn't have was the special effect when watching him
Hopkins is basically the David Goggins of boxing.
Hahaha, that's pretty cool. I was very surprised that he didn't receive much damage, as you said, and how great he looked at such an old boxing age.
17:28 that would be so humiliating😂
13:48 I am finally getting around to commenting. Felix Trinidad is no joke. His championship fight against Fernando Vargas was incredible. Straight killers out of Latin America dominated at the time. Hector "Macho" Camacho, Oscar De La Hoya, Julio César Chávez. The last man Chavez is another one of those "aliens"; two decades of fighting, over 100 wins. If you were a fan of lower weight classes after the 4 Kings, were you not missing out. Champion, after Champion, of outstanding fighters all vying to fight each other; none backing down or ducking fights to my memory. Those 12 rounds were a masterpiece when Hopkins laid out Trinidad.
18:30 When I was little, he was the rage in New York (De La Hoya). Latin comics made references to him all the time. He is not to be messed with. I remember when Ricardo Mayorga trash talked him. Now Mayorga is another bad man in boxing, but a common criticism at the time of De La Hoya is that he was some "rich guy" and wasn't truly Hispanic, he doesn't know hard times or hard fights. That only pissed De La Hoya off and laid him out.
So that's just a bit of context as to what De La Hoya brings to this fight against Hopkins.
19:18 Easily. The rise of every middleweight or lighter fighter post 1990 going into the 2000's had to get through De La Hoya. So even right here in his 30's and later, he filtered out scrubs. Big names had to cut their teeth and prove they could beat him.
28:15 To be perfectly fair. Joe Calzaghe is one of those under appreciated because of his lighter weight class, so less fame. He went on to retire undefeated, so his win against Hopkins wasn't as "rigged" in my opinion as the Jermain Taylor decisions. That being said as you see later in this video; Hopkins decisions losses are almost *always* complete robberies, and one reason he's not as celebrated was because he'd talk his mind and spit the facts about how corrupt boxing was especially in those decision losses.
36:46 and 40:55 George is the oldest heavyweight champion, Hopkins is the oldest champion of any category. That's where the confusion may be.
42:40 The only downside to any of this is that his career only ended when he was literally punched out of the ring. To be fair. He was 50 by then. He was still fighting up until 2016.
Wow! This is BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you for leaving this comment, and I'll probably have to watch something on De La Hoya 😅
Ayy ma boi Stephen is baaaaack!!!
Been waiting for you champ!
🫡🙏🏻🙌🏻
18:00 oscar dela hoya he's a legendary boxer and and ryan Garcia was in his promotion at some point
YES OKAY! Ryan's guyyy, riight. That's where I know him.
I also agree that Hopkins won against Calzaghe, but you can’t say “I feel like Hopkins won that” just because you saw some random highlights of the fight, love your videos btw!
Haha, yeah, so true. I always end up thinking the buddy that is the main character in the documentary should have won all the ones he lost 😅
I concur .
I'd like to see some full fight breakdowns , if he doesn't do it I will...
13:58 Rythm boxing did a video on felix trinidad I highly recommend reacting to him
19:02 ofc he is what kind of question is that bro you haven't even seen Oscar yet he literally beat julio cesor Chavez who is one of the greatest boxers in history
❤🔥😎 watched the vid in my other channel and came with main to say WHAT WHAT !!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
yes, boxing
36:43
Only at Heavyweight.
I could imagine washed being in boxing he could be like some drago from rocky villain 😅
🤣🤣
36:44 George foreman was the oldest heavyweight to win a championship
It should be Holyfield but he got robbed vs Valuev.
@@twal-wo6yh yes ik holyfield would of been the oldest heavyweight champion in history at 46 he dominated the guy he definitely got robbed hard
Is Oscar even anywhere good? 😂
A 1992 Gold Medalist with all around fundamentals, excellent hand and footspeed, good power, an All Time Great piston like jab that could win rounds by itself, a killer left hook, and a granite chin?
I would say that's pretty good.
Add that he fought damn near every great fighter of his era and starter his career ALL THE WAY down at 130 pounds and winning titles in 6 weight classes before facing Hopkins at 160(which was a step too far as Oscar didn't belong at Middleweight).
Whoooops 😅😅 Thanks for the information!
Hopkins was middleweight champ from 1995-2005 with 20 title defenses (most at middleweight in history). Even when he lost as a 40 year old vs 26 year Taylor, it could've gone either way. Taylor was more active, Hopkins landed the cleaner/more eye-catching punches
Hopkins managed to win and lose and regain titles at light heavyweight. Eventually becoming the oldest man to ever win a title. His loss vs Calzaghe was justified btw, this video is focusing more on what Hopkins did and not his opponents.
The reason Hopkins wasn't a big star: he fought smart and safety first. He had the ability to stink it out and win on points vs almost everyone. He didn't take risks unless he was losing the fight. The older he got, the more he fought like that (obviously with age, physical attributes go down so he had to beat them with skill and mindset). Hopkins usually needed a really good opponent to be in exciting fights, he looked boring vs guys who weren't on his level, there he usually won low output decisions.
Makes sense and just good strategy. Do you think it's comparable to how Floyd fights since everyone mentions how he's boring to watch and all haha 😅 I've never seen him, but I might watch some soon.
@@WashedOlympian it's comparable for sure to Floyd's style. Hopkins and Floyd were interesting to watch early in their career but once father time knocked on the door, both changed their style and reinvented themselves (boring but to their credit, most guys can't do that). Floyd retired in his late 30s tho. Hopkins was extra crazy about boxing, he never had that eye-catching talent like Floyd but dude was disciplined
Floyd cared more about his record, which I never understood. It kinda sucks that boxing is based around someone's record and not by the quality of the opponent's or events
@@WashedOlympian I think it will change soon. The latest business model amongst US boxers with the 0 thing failed. PBC is the biggest US boxing promotion/platform and with that model, they lost network after network. Lots of mismatches and top guys not fighting each other. This year, PBC lost it's last network and in a final cashout, they let their guys take the biggest fights and it turned out being protected with the 0 and not testing yourself will backfire, almost all of their big names got not only beaten vs the best from other platforms, they got destroyed. If you're not getting real challenges, how are you supposed to get better as a fighter?
Fans ain't stupid and the truth will get revealed in the ring eventually.
When you know who will win before it starts, why even watch? That's the issue and it led to this. It worked with Floyd but he had an interesting personality and was a HOFer before handpicking opponents and being all about that 0.
In all likelihood, the boxing business model will get a full reset in America soon. The people in power already talked openly about it and it's only a matter of time.
Maan, I really do hope they bring back the entertainment of big fights and not the achievement of never losing. If you beat the best and keep beating the best, then go undefeated. That's super impressive. Otherwise, who really cares, or why should we care. The fans can make that change, and that's by not watching 🙌🏻
2:50 if you did start boxing I think you would be pretty good since your thick neck would absorb a lot of the punches plus ofc you need a strong jaw to but your neck would help you a lot since you have that mike Tyson neck😂
Hahahahah! YESSS! Hard head as well since not even my wall can handle it! 😤
@@WashedOlympian bro🤣 didn't expect that🤣 nice one
🤣🤣🤣
