  • Why I moved to Norway my story:
I grew up in west Germany and got sick about the city live and a change was needed. I decided in 2013 to escape this stressful and unhappy live for a more relaxed and free lifestyle.
In this episode I'm explaining why I moved to Norway and showing u three seasons of weather conditions. During the years I build up a new live and even managed to settled down by buying a house instead of renting.
This was a big project to renovate on my own with some help for getting the outside and inside done.
With this movie I want to give u best impressions how living in northern Norway is and which opportunities u got.

I am happy to see and hear that you follow the same belief as I, "You can do it if you try!" This is how I came to leave New York City and moved to California; slowly and surely I moved to a mountain home in the far north of California because of the outdoor activities. I only discovered the beauty of Norway a few years ago, and through a Norwegian friend I discovered and fell in love with Tromsø, the hub to so much of Northern Norway. Be safe and stay well.

Thanks a lot for sharing your opinion, sorry for net getting back earlier I needed to be home and have it quiet. I can imagine it's a huge difference from New York to California. Yes Tromsø seems to be the Hub of Northern Norway.

I look forward to future video posts whenever you might produce them. I know what it means to have some quite time to recharge. My friend in Tromsø also works two weeks, on two weeks off. He just got back to his apartment late last night, but I will give him the space he needs to recharge before I contact. Be safe, stay well. @@ArcticNorthAdventures

It is only this "idyllic" a few months of the year. Almost totally inhabitable the rest of the year. Roads are closed and you will be isolated in total darknes a big portion of the year. It is not for everyone. Also, notice how a lot of these people blessed with the peacfulnes of the areas come from totally stressed out metropolian areas. Anything change to that could feel like heaven if you are tired of it. Moving to northern norway into no mans land is probably only for those with extreem desires and needs. And there is the issue of even getting a job up there, as most cities up north are on a declining population with very little opportunity. It might look pretty on a short tutorial, but there are lots of issues to consider before making the leap moving there. Eventhough i find it pretty for a short trip, wich I do every 2-3 years I would never settle or live there. There are so many better places to settle in Norway.

Alles Gute! :)

I lived in Narvik 2 years while studiyng. I heard a lot about 'winter depression' from people I met. It's when it is dark most of the time. I didn't have that, allthough I'm from southern Norway. But some of the locals had winter depression.
So I guess it's not genetical, it's just the type of person you are. I had more problems with the midnight sun, as it was hard for me to sleep with light all around me. Luckily these days it's easier to find good eye masks.
Me myself I moved from the big city of Oslo to a smaller town 100km away. I like the silence and there is nature all around me.

    • @ArcticNorthAdventures

I can imagine about the 24 hours daylight, I got actually used to it, I dont got any problems with winter depressions but I can imagine it can be hard when there has been bead weather before and after the polar night season specially then there has been less sun duo to clouds, but this season is not so dark as the rumors says, comes with a lot of moody and nice colors.
Best to live outside a big city indeed, what do you like more ? Narvik or south in the small city ?

@@ArcticNorthAdventures I live in Kongsberg. I like it here better. It's in a valley and we do get a lot of nice weather in the summer. And I got a nice view of nature from my balcony. We can get extra snow in the winter though. And Kongsberg is a Tech city and I work in it.
It's quiet here. When I wake up I only hear birds singing. Except for when the unwilling neighbour kids have to go to kindergarten. But that's just some minutes in the morning and some minutes in the afternoon.
We have a decent ski resort, a nice river and lots of wild nature around.

I think if you emigrating you have to do that for a positive reason like you did. I have spend my first 34 years in Holland near Amsterdam and now living since 20 years in Switzerland in a small town. I love the mountains, and the forrests here, but mis the sea, but not city life.. Norway have it all, but then I love culture and nice old towns as well, so Switzerland is not bad. I understand your choice, I have visited the Nord Cape meself twice and both times a was like lost in time, travelling all the way along that amazing coast line of Norway. Just nature, every minute beautiful views and a sun that refuses to go below the horizon in the summer. Good luck and may good adventures! Liebe Grüsse, Ronald.

@@ArcticNorthAdventures I think You can do both. I mean you are already there... If you are carrying a camera with you other than a go pro might well as take a shot or two. It will give you more content to record and you probably can sell some prints at a later time.
I know the market is bit saturated but no two artist are the same, you will bring in a unique flavour to the table. And I am sure you have places that you go to which are only known to the locals. I really hope you give it a go. Nothing to lose anyways.

Very nice authentic films....I noticed you always add an ' s' to moose to make it plural ....but it's always just moose, even if you see 2,10 or 100. One moose...10 moose .....100 moose.....it's cute to hear mooses....but it's incorrect English :)
