  • On February 24, 1864, Rebecca Davis Lee Crumpler overcame prejudices and severe constraints to become the first African American woman in the United States to earn a medical degree. During and after the Civil War, she cared for freed African Americans who would otherwise have had no access to medical care.

    Wow so sad how this goes unrecognized in history. Especially for aspiring young girls looking for a place of belonging in the medical field.

    so informative an tomorrow is scientist day my five year old told me an her dad at three she wants to be a cardiologist an this is whom I will let her speak of tomorrow the struggles we faced just to be independent an this is why we teach her true history an why she remains top of her class from the womb til as long as she has life she will be happy, intelligent an brave that's how to be all the odds
