Beautiful Queen and her workers will be great to see them grow into a big colony, I have Camponotus Ligniperdus and my queen is 19mm, it is cool to see bigger ant species as well as the small, partly as they are easier to see but great when they are polymorphic too, just interesting too see the differences
Great video! Personally I don't really like Camponotus unless they grow pretty fast. Unfortunately that requires really good genes, so if they don't have good genes I fine them kinda boring. For example my Camponotus novaeboracensis colony already have over 35 workers in their first year. I caught the queen in May and the colony has been growing very fast for Camponotus. That is when Camponotus really shine to me.
Yeah I get your feeling. That’s also why I ended the video by saying that this may be the only update this yeah since there won’t be much to update on. But in there 1-2 yeah they sometimes go crazy into the 1000. So let’s hope that will happen to this colony 😄
Actually you can go out and collect pupae from other campinotus colonies and give them to the queen....she will take them as orpahns and keep them. I have done this with my first year Camponotus and gotten 10-15 workers already within a few months of her being bred.
By the way, I'm not sure how your colony is doing now, but I got myself a brand new Herculeanus colony and they seem to REALLY love pure honey. Fed a droplet on tinfoil to the lone queen in her test tube and the next day, the tinfoil was scoured clean.
Thanks for sending me here we need you back on Facebook it’s not so fun in the group without you and thanks for everything you did for us you’re the best @Ants N Hamsters
@@tomphelps8750 lol so you at work watching TH-cam videos!? Oh yes I think he’s a pretty cool guy and I know you like to follow people that’s not so big so you can watch the journey
Camponotus ants live like....7 years for workers. They have a lot to loose for a bug lol. They're a bit smarter in my opinion. I love Camponotus colonies. The size and the intelligence is amazing.
was that sugar water freshly made or a little older? because that could explain their reaction to the sugar water XD clean the tube with a cotton swap after feeding sugar water like that, because the tube will still be sticky afterwards otherwise and it could contain dirt or even mold over time I think they have been fed with fruitflies at AntsDavey
@@AntHolleufer it's a common species with a huge distribution in most of europe and nothern parts of cental asia and even Western china which is interesting. But they can't be found in the brittish iles
