Hey so when I get ant colony will there be any new queens created, and if yes then will they fight with my original queen or should I remove all new queens@@AntsVienna
@@viltrum123 no there will be new queens when your colony is mature they're called "alates" don't worry they won't fight each other but in order to lay eggs they need To do the nuptial flight to get mated
I have Camponotus Fedshenkoi - 2 queens 2 separate colonies. Very slow ant growing species - but has massive workers and the queens are huge also. What I love about them is they change their color based on the color variation of food that is fed to them. Awesome video as always mate, keep up the good work 👍
Hello again! Thank you! Slowing down a bit on videos for winter (since 90% of my colonies hibernate), BUT getting awesome stuff ready for you guys next spring😉
Your assessment of Maculatus is on point. I have a colony of them that has outgrown every other species of ant that I have in just a single year. I thought C. Decipiens grew fast but my Maculatus grew even faster. They started founding at about the same time last year. My Decipiens colony number in the hundreds but my Maculatus are over a thousand strong with massive piles of brood. African creatures just don't play the game by the same rules, I guess.
Haha! True, thanks for backing up my argument about growth. I have even reduced their setup temperature a bit, because they grow too fast for my personal taste😅😂
By the looks of it, you Camponotus maculatus is the dark morph, they have an even brighter yellow variant, I personally keep both color variants I highly doubt that they grow from egg to worker in 2 to 4 weeks however, they grow fast, but not that fast haha They only make for good beginner species if the owner is willing to either pay a lot of money for nests and outworld, or if they are good in DIY nest making. Any faults in design will cause them to escape, and they will relocate the complete colony extremely fast. Your lucky that your colony doesn't like to climb much, because mine do XD they all hang on the walls of their outworld. Their "diapause" is actually during our summer, and they grow much bigger than just 3000 ants! You will see with your own colony, as dark morph colonies get bigger than the light morphs. It's also likely that your "heat stroke" colony could have woken up if dried and aired properly, because they usually choke on the high humidity with "heat stroke" deads.
Hello Ninuturu! Once again lots of useful advice! If I only had known sooner about the reasoning behind the heat stroke I might have been able to save them - But I'll keep that in mind for the future. Yes, I specifically requested the dark morph, because I like the color-mix better - Didn't know they get bigger colonies though😅 They call for a bigger ant farm soon!
When the heater is on mine did make it in 3 weeks (egg to worker). That took me totally by surprise early on. Now reduced the temperature to "hold them back" a bit😂

Love your channel! I got a Camponotus Chromaiodes queen almost 3 weeks ago and she has eggs! Also just found a Camponotus Subbarbatus queen today! Hoping to find another queen that isn’t Camponotus like a Lasius neoniger queen. Only time will tell though.
Hello and thanks! Congrats on the Queens you have caught🐜👍 Camponotus fly first, while Lasius nuptial flights happen mid June until end of July. So keep your eyes open in that timeframe😉

The most exotic is Vollenhovia emeryi which are introduced from Japan and can reproduce through parthenogenesis. I may be getting some Cuban ants soon is I can get a permit.
I also dare you to make a self-feeding ant outworld that has critters inside that breed to feed the colony. This idea is from D Colony who already has a video on it but I want to see your unique approach to it.
I can agree that maculatus are great, they occur indigenously in South Africa over here. And I have two colonies. Just don't get bitten by the majors, it hurts 😅.
Hello fellow ant keeper! All ants need pretty much the same to survive: Carbohydrates, protein & water. Here is a video with more details and examples for you😉👉 th-cam.com/video/VsnlZWMjG7Y/w-d-xo.html
Why not use a test tube? You can find it very cheap in every drug/medical store. If you are looking for alternatives you will need to pay attention to proper hydration and ventilation

Hey, I might get this species,im also from Europe, can i just keep them at room temperature?i got no heat pack but i dont see why I would need one, room is pretty warm
Hey antsvienna I am fascinated by the growth speed of these huge ants and their colour makes them sort of look like bannas. But how cool your ants are I am not too exited about mine. An update on my camponotus nicobarensis colony there not suffering nor growing. But however I have an issue I think the nest is NOT suitable for carpender ants. This is because my ants haven’t dug yet and will not dig. So I’ve been thinking of a wooden nest to relax their habitat. I’ve been feeding them water and they have a jelly cup it’s not a feeding issue. But they might have the wrong formicarium. So should I open my formicarium take out the queen and ants and get a bigger test tube and then a wooden nest or get a wooden nest as soon as I can. Don’t know how many they are but good news the queens alive. So with this news what do u think ants Vienna as this is my only issue.
Hello there. I also had massive problems with my Nicos in the start. For me it was the formicarium. Things turned for the better when I placed multiple test tubes in an outworld and let the ants grow there. You will also need to keep them at 26°C with moderate humidity - heating source is required for Nicos to grow. Hope this helps you out!
@@AntsVienna well i will try get a heat mat but with the water issue I don’t have any tes tubes attached to the formicarium so I have a small tiny ant bowl that constantly haves water in it. But I think a wooden nest is very needed plus a heat mat thanks for the help but I am still unsure if it’s the wrong formicarium that my ants cannot dig in and have to lift the 1st level up and I don’t want them to escape. Heat mat seems good idea just is a wooden formicarium a better suited idea than my original formicarium. It’s just that carpander ants are attached to wood so.
