I believe the best way to sum this up was a meme I saw:
Darth Vader ruled an entire galaxy
Voldemort couldnt even take over a high school
But both of these statements aren't true, you know

Ooohhh... That's deep

Kind of hard to speak the casting spells when getting forced choked.
Voldemort is likely skilled enough to cast it without speaking, not that it would help him much.
yeah, that was my thought. can't speak. having your wand "forced" our of your hand, or snapped in half... the only way oldie gone Voldie might possibly win is a sneak attack while Vader is asleep. and maybe even then the force would pre-cog it.
and we watched Luke crush those death robo troopers (whatever they are called) when rescuing Baby yoda.... I'm sure Vader could squish Voldy like that
@@Teddy-tx7wb The problem would be, vader likely only sleeps in his specialized chambers, constantly moving through space. Voldemort wouldn't know where that is and if he did it would be hard and dangerous to teleport to it due to the constant difference in distance and speed. If he were to do it from a planet he might also be stunned due to immediate changes in pressure and oxygen level. If he were to do that in vader's chamber, he might sense him. If voldemort somehow gets himself a spaceship and tracks the location of vader, he would also need to know where he exactly is, if he were to raid the ship then he would likely be spotted. Assuming that the troopers do their job they either shoot him on sight or hold him at gunpoint at which they would shoot him if he tried casting a spell from either speaking or moving his wand. If they have their popularized aim then they would likely wake vader up or vader would wake up sensing what's happening.
Oh, and if he were to enter with death eaters they would be guarenteed to be spotted at which point it will likely immediately go to vader waking or being woken up.

Base Delta Zero for those that dont know is the command that allows a fleet commander to turn Alderaan into the asteroids it became only they usuallya re barren husks with no life on it not asteroids. it was not a command freely used and in fact in order for it to be allowed, High Command on Coruscant had to be informed and only once High command had signed off could it even be commenced such was the severity of the act as often a Base Delta Zero on inhabited worlds would lead to a rise in potential rebellions......... ok perhaps someone should have informed that BDZ'ing Alderaan was a bad idea to Tarkin.
Funnily enough, depending on what point in Vader's life this is, he might actually have a vested interest in personally checking out HP Earth just to make sure their magic isn't powered by some sort of Jedi/Sith artifact he can use to one-up his master. 💀

I could be wrong ofcourse at which I would like to be corrected.
@@CommanderOfPigeons it's true that nonverbal, wandless and non verbal wandless magic exists but it's really only something that exists consistently in non-european cultures (aka people like Native americans, african witches/wizards, etc) and we are never even hinted at the idea that even someone like Voldemort was able to do so and cast high level spells/curses at full power.
Ultimately when it came down to it, characters like Dumbledore and even Voldemort himself chose to use their wands when performing their most powerful spells. Voldemort went out of his way to try obtaining the Elder Wand precisely because wands DID make a huge difference.
@@Shoddragon I was talking about nonverbal magic that did use wands, unless u made an error, I was not aware that there was use of magic that didn't involve wands. **Breaks Voldemort's wand with the Force, grabs him by the neck and goes for a stroll.**
xd yeah, after all vader could sense the whole Galaxy, and the same sidious
No tf who said that he can sense that shit real wishful thinking
@@rubendimov1449 Jedi and sith sense disturbances in the Force. This could be due to tramatic events, the precence of the dark side, other people, etc. It isn't much of a stretch to assume it would work on the Horcruxes since they have parts of Voldemort's soul in them. It hasn't been well established, I don't think, if they can directly sense souls in Star Wars, but it is quite likely they can when it comes to things like the precence of Force ghosts (and I do think Yoda could sense that ancient sith spirit in the Clone Wars, but it has been a while so I don't remember).
Assuming the Force works in the universe they are in, I see no reason why sensing the Horcruxes wouldn't be possible, maybe even easy, since the Force has been shown very capable of sensing evil presences and items (like sith artifacts) in particular. I think it is more appropriate to say it is wishful thinking that Vader wouldn't be able to sense them.
Since the Force is explicitly stated to be an energy field that binds everything, especially the living and spiritual, in the universe together, I really see no reason it wouldn't work with evil soul items.
@@RuyVuusen There are several problems with this:
1) This ability allows to sense mostly force sensitive beings because they cause the majority of disturbances. The presence of all other life forms could also be sensed but not identified. This is how rogue jedi were able to hide after order 66. They cut off their connection with the force to merge with ordinary people. Meaning Voldemort as a non force sensitive being would be a simple human among billions of other humans from the Force's perspective.
2) It's not a magical tracking device either. Even when they feel disturbances, it's mostly an abstract presence but not the actual location. There are a lot of cases when force users had to rely on technology or their deductive skills in order to find something or someone. For example: Darth Maul used a drone to find Qui Gon and his team on Tatooine despite both jedi and young anakin being force sensitive and on the same planet with Maul. Qui Gon and Obi Wan at the same time weren't able to sense that Maul arrived on the planet at all. Vader couldn't sense the rebellion's location on Hoth despite the fact that his force sensitive son was also there and deduced this also with a help of a drone. A lot of cases come from the clone wars where jedi had to act as detectives in order to find the villain or someone who got captured. Like Ahsoka who got kidnapped by Bossk's race or by the pirates and the whole jedi order couldnt find her until she managed to contact them by herself.
3) Voldemort's soul is split so his parts are even smaller than the actual human soul making it even harder to track. Considering Vader couldn't identify Leia as his daughter, it's possible he won't find any connection between Voldemort and some random objects around the Britain at all.
4) And probably the most important thing: Vader doesn't know that Horcruxes even exist and what it is in the first place. So there's no reason for him to even start hunting them. Not to mention Voldemort protected his horcruxes with every existing charm so even tracking spells were useless and the only way to find them was Harry's bond with Voldemort or knowing his past to deduce his logic.
Combining all this, it's highly doubtful that Vader can find Horcruxes. Even if he feels some abstract presence of something dark on this planet it could be anything, including the planet itself, like on Dagobah
@@gardoc1669 I mean, that is pretty fair. I still feel like such ominous things should stand out in the Force by quite a lot, but as it stands there is no way to truly be certain if it is possible since they are different verses. At the very least I think the idea of that interaction is quite funny.

His wand had a tail feather from the same Phoenix who’s tail feather was in Harry’s, meaning that the wands were twins, meaning they can wound, but not fatality harm each other with those wands. The other wand was the elder wand, the most powerful wand ever created. That one didn’t work because Voldemort wasn’t the wands master. Sorry for the yap session
@@kalebgamez808 Well in the book the ending was different though, it's true the elder wand was loyal to Harry, but Harry didn't defeat Voldemort in the same way. He casted expelliarmus so fast that Voldemort's avada kedavra was in mid-casting when his wand flew away. By flewing away, just when the wand was pointing at him, the curse was fully casted and hit himself. Occlumency is all about mental discipline. Harry struggled with it because he couldn't control his emotions. The Dark Side is all about weaponizing your emotions and using them to fuel your Force powers. As Sidious said in ROTS: "Your anger gives you focus, makes you stronger." Novice practitioners of the Dark Side just drown themselves in their emotions to get a massive power boost (similar to what Luke did in ROTJ when he almost fell to the Dark Side) but experienced Dark Side users know how to wield their emotions while retaining their rationality, which requires a great deal of mental discipline. Valdie's only chance is to take down Vader before Vader figures out how to totally shut down his magic. That means one spell, two at ABSOLUTE most. But like most villains, Valdie likes to gloat, which in this case will be terminal.
Vader, on the other hand, has free hand to gloat all he wants once he figures out the magic system. He can interrupt Voldie's casting at will, choke him until he's almost passed out, let him get a few breaths in, choke him some more, and gloat the whole time to his villainous content.

Vader just fucking blitzes and one taps him LMFAO. The speed gap alone is fucking monstrous but Vader's far superior range and AP mean that Voldy just... dies horribly.
I do not think so
@@Arthur-oy4nj
The speed gap is enormous. The prequel novelizations had Obi-Wan moving his lightsaber so fast to stop droid laser fire that it looked as though he had created a laser wall and this incarnation of Obi Wan would get fortnite danced on by Prime Vader. Characters weaker than Vader like Kylo Ren during his first appearance could stop lasers mid air AFTER they had been fired without even moving his hands. Bottom tier jedi could consistently laser-time due to force precog.
range wise, Vader has planetary+ range with the force and can even force choke people from a different part of the galaxy.
AP wise: Vader can casually crush things like AT-AT's which far surpass Voldy's durability and fight creatures/force users who far exceed anything Voldy can dream of. "

@@Arthur-oy4nj Vader has shown resistance to magic like that of the Muur talisman (the talisman that turns people into Rakghouls) and wizards can be damaged by literally anything. Harry Potter characters typically have average human stats and can amp themselves a bit with shield spells but not to the level that they could withstand Vader's AP. Even old dying characters like Yoda can casually lift things like X-Wings out of swamps and we've seen characters like Vader or weaker stop things like freighters mid-flight easily.
There's nothing stopping Vader from immediately force choking voldermort and holding his entire body still with the force and crushing him to death. Even with the horcruxes we have nothing to suggest that Voldemort has infinite regeneration or something.
I think one thing worth mentioning here, is that in a head to head fight neither is going to have any idea what the other is capable of, and both have issues with being arrogant. That being said, Voldemort tends to be far more arrogant and likely to underestimate his opponent, while Vader has force precog to aid him. Thus the moment voldemort tries to arrogantly cast a spell, vader's force precog will alert him to the danger allowing him to either block the attack with his lightsaber or use the force to wrench the wand away. And at that point Voldemort is pretty much defenseless since the force can act faster than voldy's spells.
Thus force precog always allows vader to be ready for whatever Voldy throws, while Voldy has no idea what Vader has in his arsenal until snake boy is already hit with it.
So Vader Stomps hard.
Anakin fought in the clone wars and became a brilliant tactician. I think Vader would recognize a weapon when he sees one and disarm him immediately. Can't concentrate on a spell when you're being force crushed.
You do know Voldemort can read minds Just by standing in your vacinity easily. Therefore Voldemort would Always know what Vader is up to.
@@AntonRosenkranz vader's precog allows him to see that coming before Voldemort can use it. meaning before Voldemort even has a chance to use it he is already getting force crushed. and voldemort it terms of his reaction speed, is not faster than a baseline human, where vader has both super human reaction speeds and force precog. Voldemorts mind reading ability cannot see into the future, where vader's force sensitivity can.
I don't see how he would be able to block a spell with his lightsaber, that sounds kinda cliché. No way Vader looses though, he kills Voldy with the force too fast for the old guy to cast anything meaningful
@@AntonRosenkranz That doesnt help if the force binds him down while vader cuts him into pieces with his lightsaber
Vader would win hands down. Walks in and Force chokes Voldemort while holding him in the air. Yeah Voldemort's spirit can't be killed but his physical body can and it would obviously take a huge amount of time to get a new body for the rematch, plus if Vader really wanted he could actually study up a bit on Dark Side rituals and imprison or possibly even absorb Voldemort's soul into himself. Magic is very versatile yeah but in almost all its forms you need to be able to move or talk which Vader can stop easily
Also, Sith have magic too. It's called darkside alchemy. It's a mix of force powers and black magic. The nightsisters of Dathomir outright state that magic exists and is completely different from the power of the force. And the sith can harness it.

@@onelove101unity
1) Armor didn't help before. For example in Hogwarts Legacy goblins who used the armor from goblin silver (has magical properties and is also super durable) enhanced with corrupted ancient magic still got affected by the unforgivable curses.
2) If armor did have protective properties everyone would've used it.
3) Even if we assume that Vader's armor is a physical object to the curse (it might not be because it's connected to Vader's internal organs basically making him one with his armor so it might be considered as a whole entity by the spell) and it won't hit Vader directly, the spell destroys every inanimate object that it hits, essentially "killing it". For example golden statue in the ministry was blasted to hundreds of pieces, wooden table was set on fire etc. Meaning the curse destroys the object in the most effective way. So if it hits the armor it will simply explode and as a result still killing Vader in the process

That’s actually only true with certain opponents. The main reason that doesn’t happen is because all force users have a force shield that protects them from force based attacks of from someone with a similar level of power. That’s why lightsabers are used when fighting force users. That being said, Vader is able to shatter the force shield of almost anyone, although half the time he doesn’t even bother
I think the light saber is Vader's single biggest X-factor in his favor for this fight. That thing is pure condensed, compressed energy. Any spell that Voldemort throws at Vader will get either blocked, deflected or absorbed by the saber. Its pretty much the ultimate counter for any physical or energy based attack, with magic being its own form of energy.
I agree but blocking every energy based attack is very far fetched there’s plenty of energy based attacks that would obliterate a light saber lol. Not saying Voldemort could do that but still.

Lets be honest, in the end voldemort will always whin, since he gets more than just one attempt.
First try he'll die of course, then he will inevitably come back to try again. But this time he knows what he's getting himself into.
So know he just apparates to vaders Ship, uses fierce fire (which is uncontrollable even to most wizards) then voldi disapparates to space (of course protecting himself with an adapted head bubble charm) then watching vaders Ship go out in flames, wich ONLY Voldi would be able to stop.
Even if vader wouldn't die, he would drifting through space, surrounded by sentient flames, that will destroy any vessel that tries to save vader...
You dont have to be more powerful, if you are able to respawn.
this comment is more accurate than the entire video
Darth Vader could probably actually absorb Voldemort’s soul with the force
There is the fact that Vader has a possibility of containing the flames until they die out. Even if they don't die out due to lack of oxygen, the magic would only be able to sustain them for so long. Then if Voldemort dies again, he has a limited time until he can't respawn as Vader would start to investigate to find out how he was able to come back.
There is no sentient flame, there is only the force.
The fuck do you mean it's gonna take him fuckin what ? 20 years to respawn in that time Vader will already be dead and if we are wanna talk power and respawns the deathstar will obliterate everything on earth including the horcruxes and that's assuming Vader can't sense the horcruxes through the force if that's possible which since both worlds seem to be able to interact in this particular scenario is something I think is likely

@@zaebegaye4320 I absolutely agree
This is a excellent example of a phenomena in VS Debates I call "Material Quantity Bias", which basically means that whoever has more material is naturally favored.
If we only has the original Star Wars trilogy, Volds would probably be favored, but Star Wars is a series where there is vastly more auxilliary material than source material while Harry Potter still has very little actual auxiliary material to go with the books, hell, there is probably more Darth Vader books than Harry Potter books. Because Star Wars is 99,5% worldbuilding/auxiliary material by volume, Vader has a near endless list of feats, skills and powers to analyze while Voldy has very little due to the lack of material and Rowlings wobbly worldbuilding.
The result of this is that whenever we bring up a feat or skill of Volds, there is ALWAYS a skill or feat of Vader that trumps it, simply because there is just so damn much Vader material.
You make a good point. The more media a franchise has the more likely it'll have writers trying to out do each other on how powerful the characters are, and so have more power creep. Like how comics have several forms of ultimate supposedly all powerful gods stacked on top of one another. "No, wait. This ultimate white and gold colored being is totally the most powerful god of the setting!" Then two months later there's another really freaking high energy being who's totally more powerful.
This doesn't change the facts though. It just explains how the facts could have come to be. Also this doesn't take away any merit from Vader. There have been other works in the Potterverse aside from the books and likely none of it expanded upon Volde's powers. Even you try to argue that "there could be any number of powerful spells unexplored in world of the books that didn't come to fruition in the story", the fact of the matter is that these potential powers went unexplored for a reason: JK Rowling set Voldemort as the most powerful Wizard, so even if he could get several times more powerful, he would never actually do it because there was never going to be any need. It's probable that 20 other HP books, had them been written, would not push the envelope on what Voldemort was able to do. Vader, on the other hand, by the story of just the first three movies, had to be as strong as he was.
@@renato360a Considering Vader's powers greatly expanded from the OT, nevermind the first movie, I fail to see your point. Saying that a character is already strong in the initial media doesn't stop writers from adding new powers. Hell, it probably encourages them, as they get ideas for new abilities and give them to characters already considered strong to avoid complaints from fans. As the blitzburn noted, this isn't saying Voldemort would win, they're merely noting an out of fiction trend they've spotted and using the Voldemort vs Vader fight as an example. Not to mention, since this is an inter universe fight, there's a lot of unknowns. Could the Force tip off Vader to Voldemort's soul jars? We don't know, but fans hate when a supposed source of knowledge admits their limits, which tends to lead to guesses being portrayed as fact. That and in settings with multiple authors, or hell, just a long enough time stuff is being written in it, there are going to be inconsistencies. When faced with these there is a question; do we default to the strongest powers, even if they were used once and never again, or the most common, or a combo of the two. Does it sound complicated? Yes, welcome to large scale fiction writing. At least if you want to figure out a character's powers across hundreds of books, video games and seven movies. OT+PT+ Rogue One. Nevermind there might be an author with an agenda on board to pump up or nerf their favorite/ disliked characters.
@@adams13245 I think you're just repeating what blitzburn already said. My second point, in summary, is that Vader is a character with potential to be expanded upon, while Volde isn't. No matter how many writers you throw at Voldemort, he won't get any stronger. This potential alone I claim is reason enough to justify the superiority of Vader even in the face of publishing logistics.
A simpler example of this is One Punch Man. How he was defined early determines his invincibility forever. Each stronger foe he faces reveals a new reason why he can't be beaten, as if they're adding to his powers. But this all adding stems from how he was first defined.
@@renato360a So because you say that Rowling said Voldemort was the most powerful wizard he cannot have said powers expanded. As opposed to Vader, who was said to be a prophecized hero who was going to end the Sith. As opposed to all the EU characters with crazy powers, like Starkiller, who dragged down an entire star destroyer or "5d chess genius!1!" Revan, who just so happened to stumble on an ancient factory with limitless power from the dark side, but totally wasn't corrupted by it. Or other "5d chess genius!1!" Thrawn who defeats his enemies with sherlokian wit cause Zhan has a hard on for milit- I mean he's totally a tactical genius. Nevermind that Outbound Flight pretty much shows him to be competent when faced by the tactically moronic Trade Federation, who somehow become completely trust worthy to reprogram a completely new technology to the Chiss... cause reasons. Suddenly Vader doesn't look that powerful, thanks to EU power creep. Seems like a good example of what blitz was talking about: the more writers you rent your universe out to, the more likely there will be major power creep, as said writers try to one up each other. Sure, I suppose Vader is stronger than Voldemort in a straight up fight, but blitz wasn't denying that, merely pointing out an interesting reason why that was probably true. Or are we not allowed to examine fiction as fiction when it seemingly deflates one of your favorite characters?

Voldemort: Monologues like usual
Vader: Breathes and stares
Voldemort: gasps as every bone in his body is crushed by an unseen pressure.
Vader: walks away without any further thought
I have to go with Vader here as the winner but transmutation is the big X factor for me. If Voldemort can land that it's over. However that is a big If. Not brought up was the fact force users do have some precognitive abilities. If Voldemort plans to start whipping out Transmutations it may lead to Vader just ending things as he will sense significant danger coming. Hell even if it lands if Vader is still sentient he may still have the force so he might win as a spider as Voldemort is about to step on him and gets his head cut off by a floating light saber. In the end I think though this is a very talented and very skilled Bully versus a legitimate Bad Ass. Vader is made of stronger stuff and I see Voldemort breaking first.
Vader can sense the presence of anyone with power, which means Vader would have first attack resulting with a choke hold followed by disarming of Voldermorts wand. The only way Voldermort would have a chance would be if someone of greater power or emotional interest was distracting Vader.
@@NTJedi thats so funny to think of: get someone more powerfull than you to distract me and you may have a Chance of defeating me😂
Imagine challenging someone to a duel and they force choke you from across the galaxy
I think this fight is a lot more even than a lot of people are making it, but the vast majority comes down to how the force and magic interact.
A few preliminary assumptions about magic that I think most people are missing:
- A wand is a focus item, not the source of magical power. (HP made glass disappear without a wand. Longbottom bounced when dropped by his uncle.) Some magic can be done without that focus, so breaking the wand does not make Voldemort defenseless, but significantly less of a threat.
- Magic is as all encompassing as The Force. It can influence things in much the same way. Both magic and The Force tend to require time to research/meditate to understand how to wield their powers.
- Magic allows mathematical and scientific impossibilities: Buildings where there is not space to put them, technological exclusion zones.
- Star Wars Tech is essentially muggle tech. Imperials are essentially muggles.
- Wizards can make areas where muggle tech doesn't work. (Depending on how this works, Vader's lightsaber and suit likely become nothing but dead weight.)
Some questions which need answered to figure out how the fight would go:
- What can Voldemort do without his wand? He clearly isn't helpless since the wand is merely a focus item . . . but he's not nearly as powerful, either.
- Does magic allow a user to disapparate at will and escape force activities (push, pull, choke)? If so, this becomes a reasonably even fight.
- Does magic counter Imperial technology? If the fight occurs in an area where "Muggle technology" such as Vader's suit don't function, Vader's in trouble. If this extends to Vader's saber not working, he's in a *LOT* of trouble.
- Can a lightsaber block magic? Most people seem to assume that it can because it can block practically anything in the Star Wars universe . . . but I don't know if that's a safe assumption. If it can, then Voldemort is in a world of hurt. If not, Vader *MUST* break the wand immediately.
I think this fight boils down to "Who can eliminate the others' advantages first?"
Here's how I see this fight going down:
Volde is playing defense because he values his own life above all else, while Vader is well known for going on the offensive.
Vader finds the secret keeper for Voldemort's lair, and forces the location of the lair from him. Vader then proceeds to the lair, only for his saber and suit to immediately malfunction upon entering. Voldemort's home is protected by a muggle tech exclusion zone. Volde, now alert to the attack goes to investigate. Vader, prone and unable to breathe in his malfunctioning suit, force pulls himself outside to relative safety. Once outside, the suit and lightsaber immediately resume normal functioning.
Voldemort apparates behind Vader while Vader is not yet fully recovered. Wanting the invader to suffer he shouts "Crucio!" The beam of light hits Vader in the back.
Vader is in a world of debilitating pain and suffering. Unfortunately for Voldemort, this has the opposite effect Voldemort intends. Vader is both used to pain, and uses it to power his rage. Vader fights through the pain and tries to block it with his saber, but unlike anything he's used to, the saber fails to block the magical stream. Voldemort laughs at his pathetic victim. "You are pathetic! Your power is useless against me!" Wanting to end the pain, Vader uses The Force to snap the wand. Fortunately for Voldemort, he's begun keeping a spare wand in his pocket. Before Tom can pull it out, Vader begins to Force Choke him. Voldemort puts his hand in his pocket, grabs the spare, and immediately disapparates back into his lair.
Vader, knowing he is at a severe disadvantage inside the lair, chooses not to follow. Instead, he summons a transport from his ship. He orders the ship to bombard the lair from orbit, only for the gunner to inform him that there is no such location. Fortunately for Vader, he has kept his informant (Voldemort's secret keeper) alive for further questioning. Upon being mocked by the secret keeper, Vader flies into a rage, and kills him. "Lord Vader! We don't know what happened, but the location wasn't there a moment ago, but we can see it now!" "Excellent. Fire."
Voldemort's Lair is engulfed in death from above, yet he does not die. He has made himself immune to heat and used his magic to create a wall of force around himself, but many of his enchantments were destroyed in the blast. Tom flees to one of his secondary bases. Sensing this, Vader returns to the planet. Finding the new secret keeper, he saves time by killing her immediately. Riddle, not knowing the secret keeper has died, stays in his lair. Vader blasts it from space. Again, Riddle survives, but not realizing there was an imminent threat, he was less prepared, and severely weakened. Vader, finds his quarry, and begins by using the force to snap his wands and force Riddle's hands away from his pockets. "You were more powerful than I expected. Still, it is time for you to die." Riddle unable to focus and deprived of magical defenses, is cut in half by a lightsaber.
I also think that one cannot so easily dismiss Magic. The most straight forward point is the prophacy. If the prophacy is true, then Vader does not have the power to defeat Voldemort. Period. But let's keep the prophacy out of it.
The magic systems are so different that they are hard to compare. So let's assume that magic and force are equally powerful entities.
Also what I would adress is usuing force to break a wand. I don't think it is that easy. I believe there is no really satisfying explanation why force users don't break or disable each others lightsaber. So let's assume that you can use the force in some way to protect a lightsaber from manipulation by the force. I would claim that the same principle applies to a wand as well. A wizard has a string connection to their wand, while he is holding it, so he would feel an attempt to break the wand with the force. Since I assume magic is equally powerful as the force, a strong wizard could definitely protect his wand in a similar way as a Jedi protects his lightsaber.
So here is what I think about your questions:
What can Voldemort do without his wand?
This question becomes much less relevant if we assume that he can protect his wand. Still I think he cannot do much. Even though magic can be wielded without a wand, it would be either much less powerful, or much less controllable. So Voldemort might be able to cast simple spells without a wand and also be able to blow up everything around him, but not focus a powerful blast against a specific target.
Does magic allow a user to disapparate at will and escape force activities (push, pull, choke)?
Apparition definitely requires a rotational movement. So if you are prevented from turning you cannot disapparate, apart from that I do not see a reason why you couldn't.
Does magic counter Imperial technology?
Would agree here, imperial tech is just muggle tech. But in a hypothetic battle I would not give anyone a defensive advantage by setting up protective spells and it is not Voldemorts style either.
Can a lightsaber block magic?
I would say it can block any spell that can be blocked by a wand as well. So depends on the power of the spell. Unforgivable curses definitely not, I would say.
Same goes for magic blocking a lightsaber. A powerful magic shield could withstand a lightsaber for at least some time.
And by the way, Avada Kedavra needing to connect to flesh makes no sense at all. Maybe Vaders armor is string enough to take one blow of it, but it would probably stop working. So when Voldemort casts Avada Kedavra, Vader tries to block it, fails and it hits his armor which stops functioning. In this weakened sate Vader will go on to lose the fight relatively quickly.
@@jakobm.4183 I disagree with the assumption about wands being resistant to breaking because of how Ron's breaks, and now Harry breaks the elder wand . . . but I think your analysis is much better than the vast majority of what I see here. Well thought out. :)
@@jakobm.4183 About wandless magic: there's an answer for this in the lore. The ability to use magic without a wand is a hard discipline to learn. But it's still possible. With practice and skill basically every spell is possible to cast without any loss in power. There are entire schools like the one in Africa where wandless magic is a primary discipline while the use of wands is optional. But since wands make it much more convenient, a lot of people still prefer using them. But guys like Dumbledore, Grindelwald or Voldemort showed that they can cast even super complex spells without a wand. For example, Dumbledore used nonverbal wandless transfiguration (the hardest branch of wandless magic) on Slytherin flags and turned them into Gryffindor ones with a clap of his hands. Or created an entire mirror dimension to fight Creedence. Grindelwald used telekinesis just like force users do to disarm and lift multiple people at once or throw cars for examle. Voldemort deflected Harry's spell with a hand gesture, used legilimency, telekinesis, unsupported flight (big deal in the books, this was considered to be impossible so i think it counts as a high level magic) and other things. Even Quirrell who according to Snape was a mediocre wizard, used transfiguration with a snap of his fingers. So even if Voldemort loses his wand, he won't be powerless
@@JoeLandrigan I did not mean that wands are resistant to breaking, they clearly are not. However, I think that a powerful wizard could protect his wand against force attacks using magic.

Also he wasn't at the peak of his power at that time, it's just that's where his power was cut short. If Voldemort hits Vader with nonverbal AK it’s over. He can also teleport. Protego may be able to block any physical force attacks like force choke.
Vader obviously can’t be disarmed as he’ll always have the force. All he has to do is crush Voldemorts throat with the force or something if he can get through protego. Vader can’t block spells and will suffer full effects of any spells he’s hit with, magic may be able to block the force I’d say it’s 50/50.
If you think about it in greater detail you see it’s not as cut and dry. It boils down to whether physical force attacks can be blocked with protego. It wouldn’t make sense for the force to be able to block spells. If protego blocks the force and Voldemort uses it Vader died from AK. If it doesn’t, it’s 50/50 whoever acts first.

@@LordTyph yes
Except as others have pointed out in the comments vader has foresight of what his enemy will do before they act which will let him see it coming. Also avada kedavra is a light beam the same way a blaster bolt is and it’s probable that it travels maximum the same speed as blaster bolts which vader blocks with ease regularly in the show so he wouldn’t need the force for that. Also force attacks aren’t physical attacks they work by utilizing the force around the target which assuming that the force exists where they’re fighting (you would have to assume so because you’d also have to assume that magic is around for voldermort to use) vader can just use the force that surrounds voldermort to destroy him. Magic in the harry potter verse doesn’t work the same way as magic comes from within. The reason that voldermort can’t protect against the force is because only force users can by putting up a ”force field” around themselves to protect against enemy attacks. In short Voldermort gets absolutely destroyed in basicaly every conceivable situation.

Yes and no. The sith that did that were either heavily corrupted ie. Palpatine in the rise of skywalker, or only in a weakened spirit form like Marka Ragnos. The dark side is antithetical to life so when they try to prolong it things tend to get fucky. As for tanking it, maybe if he were to preform essence transfer, he may be able to pull it off but it's not something you do in a fight. It's more of a ritual thing and it never really goes well for sith.
Maul lived solely due to his intense hatred. Darth Vader would probably be able to tank the death curse.
If going by legends then yes. And Vader BEFORE he knew Luke was his son might be able to do it, since Anakin Skywalker was for all intents and purposes gone. We don't know for sure if he could, and even if he could Palpatine never taught him immortality, meaning he would become like Darth Sion or Darth Nihlus.
People always go "OMG look how powerful Nihlus is he eats planets" but Vader or Palps are definitely stronger than Nihlus. Nihlus HAS to eat planets worth of life to survive, that's not a strength.
Anywho I'm getting off topic, if Vader did have to do that I'm calling it a tie because any chance at immortality for Vader would be lost and he'd most certainly become a slave to the dark side. Yea, he'd beat mr no nose... but hell is a real place in Legends StarWars, and I would most definitely give Vader the ultimate L if he ended up there because of a fight with Voldemort.
No, the death curse would be a one shot but voldemort needs to even hit vader first. The speed gap is crazy even if you just look at movie vader.
Vader has force precog, so he can see the attack coming before Voldy even casts it, and Vader isn't stupid, he would stop the killing curse before it was even fired.
Vader uses the Force to brake the Wand then there's nothing Voldemort can do so Vader just force chokes him to death or chops him with his lightsaber easy win for Vader and anything Voldemort shoots at Vader can just be force pushed back and make Voldemort hit himself
wandless magic: exists
I personally think that Voldemort would win. He forgot to think about horcruxes(excuse my spelling) when determining the outcome of the fight. Also, what if Voldemort used expeliarmous on Darth vaders armor? And then he pulled out his avada codabra. And then, if that doesn’t work then Voldemort can use a giant lightning spell just like his giant snake spell and just use rapid fire crucios over and over again until vaders low on shields so Voldemort just rips of the mask and Ends it with avada.

Avada kedavra can easily be blocked or absorbed by a light saber or dodged and pushed away with the force how is that unblockable?
@@Bowger06 Yeah, I think force premonition is going to be the deciding factor.
Lol i think everyone is failing to understand an important factor.. "THE FORCE" is what? in layman's terms means space magic. So in turn not hating on whatever verison of vader you like. But Voldemort is a wizard of magic so take that into starwars now. That would make him 1 a sith practitioner 2 most likely a sith mage or wizard. And last but not least very powerful in understanding the darkside, how to use it control and harness its power. Both had fears that they fed off of that made them menacing. Lightsaber duel vader wins, a duel of the force and how to weild it Voldemort. Take it as you will. May the force be with you
I never understood those debates. Putting a lightsaber wielding guy next to a highly skilled wizard is like a soldier from the roman empire against a delta force killing machine.
Change my mind
Man, I'm not gonna get too deep into this because I really don't have a dog in this argument either way, but I JUST need to tell you, you have a VERY... "basic, rudimentary" idea of how the Unforgivable Curses work.
Chiefly referring to "Crucio," or the "Cruciatus Curse," and Avadakedavra. The Cruciatus is more than just the biological-level of pain that Vader would feel from his wounds, it's deliberately crafted as a Spell to make you feel, "Pain beyond imagining," but also to prevent you from blacking out, which would be the mind's natural defense-mechanism from pain overload.
And 2, the whole, "Avadakedavra needs to connect with flesh to work." No... No it doesn't. If you're wearing a suit of armor, or a kevlar vest, or you ductape a bunch of phone-books to your body, it doesn't matter. It's no different than getting struck by lightning while wearing a kevlar vest. If the spell hits whatever is on you, it goes THROUGH that and it severs your soul from your body without causing any physical damage. It just KILLS. It IS "deaths touch" in spell-form. Vader wearing his machine-suit or mechanical body-parts of any kind would not make a difference.
Other than that, interesting video.
someone speaking facts finally
Yes! I thought the exact same thing, especially about Crucio. It would definitely not just feel "like a tickle" to Vader. Vader would probably still withstand it through sheer willpower, but it would hurt him a lot, just like it does for everyone else. I'm not saying Voldemort would win, but pretending he could do nothing to Vader is also wrong.
Yea until Vader snaps his neck it would literally take him 2 seconds in rogue one he broke a rebels neck easily with the force and he can do that much faster then Voldemort can mutter Avada Kedavra and even if he did Vader would just block it

Calling it: Voldemort. Sorry, but that's not even close.
Vader/Anakin at his most powerful is still bound to only what he can do physically and what he can use the Force to do, which is typically enough for other opponents, but you have to understand: Magic can do *anything* with the right spell or equipment. That's not something you power-scale against with anything less than an equally versatile kind of power. Dueling doesn't matter when your opponent can just Expelliarmus with a single spell and knock your lightsaber away, the Force doesn't matter when Impedimenta and Accio can do functionally the same thing, mental fortitude doesn't matter when you can just Stun your opponent instantly with a single Stupefy or Obliviate your opponent and make him _forget who he even is,_ and even death doesn't matter if he can just come back alive again thanks to Horcruxes. That's not even talking about the spell to teleport at will, the spell to control others, the spell to create zombies from the dead, the spell to animate statues, the countless number of spells to transmute objects and creatures into other objects and creatures, the spell to superheat metal, the spell to make you lose all control of your legs, the spell to cause instant full-body paralysis...
I feel people keep forgetting that Voldemort lost in the book series only thanks to an _incredible_ series of coincidences and contrivances that he could not possibly have known about that happened months prior to his final duel. Vader would have no such fiat in a fight with him. Voldemort just has way, waaaay too many tools to control the battlefield here, it's ridiculous to even try comparing them.
Voldemort can replicate basically everything Vader has:
1) Telekinesis - Leviosa
2) Lightsaber - Sectumsempra
3) Force choke - choking spell
4) Force crush - bone vanishing spell
5) Force barriers - protego
6) The ability to use the force without anything - wandless magic
7) And thousands additional spells for every imaginable purpose on top of that.
My personal favourite is the backfire jinx so every Vader's ability will be reversed back at him
Please don't take this the wrong way, I love Vader as a character and old moldy Voldy isn't too shabby either, but it's nowhere near a real comparison. This, as it stands, is a matter of scale, dependent upon the technology of their stories.
From the video's standpoint, as stated at the end, Voldemort was feared by the wizarding world while Vader was feared across the galaxy by uncounted worlds. That statement is meaningless.
Voldemort was feared because he was known and because he could and would and had done things. Vader had done the same. The implication that Vader was more dangerous/powerful/feared and using the number of people that feared him as evidence of that power is flawed. In the Harry Potter universe, the entire story takes place on one planet, with no hint of any other intelligent life. Vader's universe had starships, casual travel between planets, etc. Being the face (helmet?) of the Empire puts your name out there. Blowing up planets does that too. And yet... Vader is ultimately taken out by what amounts to a magic short circuit which causes his portable iron-lung to fail. Fear and the number of people who fear him has nothing to do with the potential outcome or strength.
Give Voldemort a ship, stick him in the empire, and you get much the same thing... minus the armor.
The thing is, they both have OP skills and abilities, and despite fan-specific plot-armor, they both get beaten by a kid with a fancy stick. Sure, Vader 'lost' because he chose to soak some damage, but that kind of shows that the claim he was super aware and powered by pain/fear making him effectively unstoppable is patently false.
Vader's armor was DANG good armor, which hindered him, but was still armor at the end of the day. Vader was just simply that incredibly powerful in spite of it.
But... Voldemort could literally come back from the dead.
Once again, give moldy snake-face a ship and suddenly you have to blow up every planet in existence to make certain he can't return because he can simply mind control anyone he wants and have them deliver/lose a trivial drop of magic solder or heck... turn Vader's own spare gloves into a horcrux. Remember, Vader killed untold numbers of people, but for EVERY MURDER, Voldemort could conceivably make a new horcrux. No, it wouldn't be the best quality, but we are talking about a guy who was okay with resurrecting without a nose, as a rotting fetal skinless thing, in the body of a snake, and even as a scar on a child's head.
Magic is literally a cheat in fights like this.
So, yes, give them both their full compliment of powers and abilities, with their backup, and their associations, and Vader can't really lose because if he wanted, he could just blow up Earth and be done with it; but one on one? Vader can likely take out Voldemort with ease... until he can't. Remember too that Voldemort spent decades between returning... Vader would win in the first battle, but even assuming he "won", Luke would have watched daddy-dearest pass away in his arms before Voldemort even showed back up for a repeat performance.
Magic is a cheat. Vader can easily take Voldemort out but can't simply call it a win in the long run.
If Vader can pull fu**ing star destroyer, I like to think that he can just squish Veldemort with the force
I wonder why he didn’t do that with the mon calamari ships…
Voldemort, quite frankly, is one of the weakest, most pathetic Dark Lords EVER. Vader, Sidious, Sauron, Morgoth, Ganondorf, Dracula, all of these other Dark Lords easily outclass Voldemort in every category, from personal powers and abilities to the scopes of their armies and influence. Voldy WISHES he was in their league.

I like the people that have takes where it isn't an easy answer. Because, let's be honest, it isn't. One thing I don't like is the whole thing of being accused of being a fan boy, if you favor one possible outcome. Like the people trying to cope by saying that people who think Vader would win are just fanboys, regardless of their arguments.
I think this gets complex depending on how powers interact. Like, what does casting a spell look like to a Force user? I'd argue that it would be a pretty major disturbance in the Force, and thus if they weren't careful, a wizard would be telegraphing their moves months in advance. Another argument is blood magic, or Accio. I don't know how long a range Accio has, but I don't think it would be that far. But given how it's not used for certain things, that implies that there are limits besides range. So, I don't think Voldemort could just Accio Vader's helmet. Another wrinkle is the whole casting spells. Can that be deflected? Is there a type of vector that magic travels through, and if so, what is it? It seems like most kinds of offensive spells require line of sight, so that is something to consider.
Another variable is how much prep time is allowed, and how the fight occurs. If it's a sudden chance meeting that turns into a fight, Voldemort then has a chance of winning. It's small, but it is there. Surprising an opponent with abilities outside of their normal context can be devastating, but this applies both ways. This applies to any fighter, which is why the best ones have their guard up at all times. Along this vein, I have seen some What If... fanart for an ILM contest that shows Vader being offed by a random rebel soldier who presumably bum rushed him and managed to land a lucky hit. This is something that can happen to anybody or anything in a fight. For example, the torpedo hit that crippled the Bismarck during WW2. A lucky hit in just the right spot at just the right time. So, from that standpoint, Voldemort has a very small chance. But it would be an insane stroke of luck.
However, if there is time to do research, Voldemort is screwed. Vader has many more avenues to figure out things about Voldemort, but the reverse does not apply.
And than there is the issue of skill and experience. Voldemort is more of a terrorist or a serial killer. Vader has proven himself to be a one man army at his best. This is something that comes up frequently in Death Battle!, a channel dedicated to exactly these sorts of matchups. What you have are cases where one opponent is the most powerful in their respective setting, who might not have had to push themselves that hard in a fight because they can overwhelm pretty much anyone in the setting. And then you have them face off against an opponent who has had to fight several other characters who are at or maybe even above their power level. A perfect example of this is the fight between Omni-Man and Homelander. Spoilers ahead, for that Death Battle! episode, Invincible, and The Boys. Stop reading now if you don't want spoilers.
Homelander is the most powerful super in the world of The Boys, and so he can stomp pretty much anyone, which leaves him lacking in skills in fighting someone even at his level. Omni-Man, on the other hand, is a Viltrumite, and comes from a planet where everyone is as strong as he is. Even better, Viltrumite society is very much survival of the fittest, dog eat dog brutality. So, not only do you have to be strong, you have to be smart and skilled in order to survive. And you'd be constantly fighting other people who have your level of powers, so you can't expect to just tank things. And then there is the experience. On top of all that, Omni-Man has been conquering planets for possibly thousands of years. He's had all kinds of things thrown at him, and come out on top. So, on top of having much higher levels of power, Omni-Man knows how to use it. Which he does, effortlessly stomping Homelander.
Darth Vader is the same way. As Anakin, he was trained by the Jedi since he was nine years old. He fought through the Clone Wars, on the front lines. And then he served as Palpatine's attack dog for almost 20 years, facing off against everything from rebels to bounty hunters to Imperial super soldier experiments to fugitive Jedi. He has had to do much more than Voldemort ever did, which gives him far more experience. This doesn't guarantee a win, but it is a massive advantage. The only way for Voldemort to win is to get insanely lucky, but that isn't likely, given that Underdog Luck™ doesn't usually apply to villains.
But, that's why I think Vader would win. Of course, if Vader was not in the mood to get his hands dirty, he could simply target the Riddle mansion with a turbolaser from the Executor, and turn it into a glassed crater. No more Lord Doltmover, no more Death Eaters. Things get a lot easier when your personal ship is a 19 kilometer long arrowhead composed of pure Tarkin Doctrine.
Vader is a cooler character, but the magic in the Harry Potter universe is powerful enough to be considered broken. There's a spell for anything you can think of (and they don't have to be spoken aloud), shields that can manifest out of nothing, levitation and force choking would be basic enough that a skilled student could do them, aparating to anywhere, flight, liquid luck, etc., etc.
Vader is cooler for the same reason that Batman is cooler than Superman. Too many powers with virtually no weakness is boring. However, that doesn't mean that cool points make Batman more powerful.
Yes, Harry was a high school kid, but he also happened to be the kryptonite mcguffin to push the story to its conclusion. Otherwise, Voldemort was essentially unkillable. That's an issue of the audience that the books were written for and not necessarily a reflection on his power. It's strongly suggested that if Voldemort can destroy the one person on Earth that could possibly defeat him, then he'd be free to easily subdue all of humanity.
Much of Vader's power is in being manipulative and playing the long political game in a universe with far more advanced technology than ours. His individual capabilities with force "magic" are far more reserved, and that is precisely why they are more compelling.
Exactly!
Finally, at least one person understands

Vader cant live without his suit, voldemort just simply uses accio helmet from across the galaxy and vader suffocates to death. Even if we’re assuming they’re in the same place, and vader just force chokes voldemort killing him. Voldemorts horcruxes keep him alive, and he goes into that vapor/misty state that he was in during the first 3 books & possesses vader and makes him stab himself in the heart with the lightsaber. Also who said anything about all spells being visual bolts? Something like impedimenta doesnt have bolts that he can deflect. Even if voldemort has no wand and cant speak, levicorpus solos vader. Nobody has magic and therefore cannot do the countercurse. He’s just left there hanging upside down until his blood cant leave his brain. Like you said voldemort is more versatile. I think this versatility gives him too many ways to target weak spots.
Accio is a very smart move in this situation. Unfortunately there are almost only Vader fanboys in the comments. 😆

I’m seeing some very misinformed comments saying Avada Kadavera could break the lightsaber if it tried to block. Based on what evidence? Lightsabers can reflect Turbolasers seen on AT-ATs. Luke once hijacked an AT-AT and tried using its guns on Vader. Didn’t work. The only confirmed things capable of shattering a lightsaber blade are pure cortosis and other lightsaber blades made from Synthetic crystals. Voldemort has neither. Remember the duel with dumbledore in the books, small statues shattered but most of the time it harmlessly bounced off solid objects. When lightning bolts hit statues, they tend to explode. A lightsaber can handle lightning bolts just fine, so it absolutely can take an avada kadavera.
But even if it could, Vader is not out of the fight. Destroy voledemort’a wand and 90% of his abilities are gone.
In case of avada kedavra it's just the way it works. Like the death note but concentrated into a beam. It ignores any durability and kills you like a console command in a game. It always kills whatever it hits (unless you're in a very specific circumstances like Harry was). But if the target can't die because it's inanimate it simply destroys. Like the statues you mentioned that shattered into thousand pieces. Like the table that was incinerated upon the contact. As you see, for different types of objects different types of damage were done depending on the most effective way to destroy it.
And even if lightsaber is somehow capable of surviving this, there're lots of other spells that 100% ignore the durability. Like transfiguration that can turn lightsaber into a banana. Or evanesco that erases the object from existence. It's even possible to enchant the lightsaber to attack it's owner like Grindelwald once did to aurors' wands. Combining this with the multiplying charm and you have an army of flying laser swords attacking Vader.
And about "Destroy voledemort’a wand and 90% of his abilities are gone" - this is not true. Voldemort is a master of wandless magic. He can do a lot of stuff even without a wand
@@gardoc1669reported for misinformation
@@axinhedgelion8417 lol
@@gardoc1669 here is the key thing though, it would have to hit the hilt, not the blade, and no force user is going to use the hilt of the saber to block. The blade is just pure energy, Avada Kedavara isn't doing anything to the blade.
And on top of that, Vader has precog, meaning he can see attacks before they are coming, its a basic force user ability that even untrained force users have shown some capability in. Meaning vader could very easily rip Voldy's wand away before he even has a chance to use a spell, then force choke him before he has a chance to use wandless magic. Vader stomps because of how OP force precog is.
@@ryuukeisscifiproductions1818 As i said, if avada kedavra touches something that means the object will be destroyed one way or another. It's hard to say what will happen, maybe the blade will disappear like from cortosis weapons, maybe the whole saber will explode but it will be destroyed anyways. And like i said even if we forget about avada kedavra there are dozens of ways to get rid of the lightsaber. Voldemort can literally just snap his fingers and turn it into a stick without his wand or any projectiles to dodge or block.
And yes, precognition is strong but not op. Force users were caught off guard many times. Vader might have "a bad feeling about this", feel some disturbances in the Force and sense the oncoming danger but he won't be able to identify the exact effect from each spell and how to counter it correctly. It's not an omniscience. Mace Windu wasn't able to predict that Anakin was about to betray him. The whole Jedi order wasn't able to predict the order 66 etc. Even Anakin himself wasn't able to predict that Obi Wan is trying to bait him into jumping to cut off his limbs. So i doubt that Vader will be prepared for every single spell Voldemort has especially because this is something completely new and unexpected for him
