This has to be one of the best 'Pop' songs ever made. It has everything. Great lyrics, great vocals, great harmonies... I like it when people make unashamed pop!
I can't stand this album... compared to "L", Freeze Frame and Consequences. But, good lord. This is one of the finest songs I've heard. And I've listened to a lot of music. These two are super geniuses. I feel like History Mix was compromised by a combination of things. I understand that it has pop appeal. II have a feeling this album was compromised by new technology, not being ripe yet, but being used instead of their tried and true techniques. And, as someone who was in the music industry for decades, I have a feeling there was some record industry BS involved in the record. It should have been better. I know a lot of fans will point to Ism Ism (Snack Attack US) and say, "but they were going downhill already." I disagree. That album may not have the immediacy and pure alien artistry of there previous albums, but it was full of successful experiments. When you can bring pop music and deep experimentalism together and make it work, you have something going on. All of this being said, from the first time I heard Golden Boy when it was released, I was in love. I can never get sick of this song.
@@MisterNiles The boys once said they had 2 types of albums - the ones they really wanted to make (Kevin described it as getting a musical hard-on) and the ones they had to create for the recording contract/record company. I don't think the Fairlight, which they used a lot on this album, did them any favours as it reduced their need to invent sounds and solutions. There was also the added production from the Art of Noise guys so it sounds more like an AoN album than a G&C one. My original UK vinyl only had the remixed tracks plus Cry on it - most of the other tracks on later reissues were songs they released as singles but for whatever reason were never put on any albums. I still have all my vinyl G&C records including the 12" version of this one which is a classic but I don't have a record player now so I can't upload it I'm afraid.
There's this girl you like, and you want her, but she wants "The Golden Boy"... You're crushed... Then you find your Girl, and you're "The Golden Boy" and it crushes someone else.... Or is this song about drugs?

It's such a heart breaking song, and I keep listening to it year after year. Thank you Kevin and Lol.
What a hopelessly underestimated song. It allways belongs to my top 5 best songs ever.
This song touches deeply, is forever up there for me. I'm with you

this one doesn't even show up on the greatest songs/hits under G&C-- only "Cry" does, imo this is the one that ought to
Genial ...Godley&Creme waren von der Musikalischen Vielfalt das BESTE
I never knew they made a video for this until a few years ago. Loooove 💖💖💖💖 I recognize the backup singers from the Cry video 🌟
LIstening to this for the first time ever in my life makes me feel as if there was some inflence from OMD. Particularly the album "Crush" from 1985
classy and clever - music, video and lyrics
A mastetpiece.
Is voice is beautiful he sing any thing
Perfect PopSong - Would have been a fine Cover for Erasure.
I was thinking it's has a very strong Erasure vibe.
Roland CR 78 on drums. Should remind you of Blondie Heart of glass
I think they used a guitar Gizmotron in the background of this song.
Really a great song with great harmonies! Fantastic! Does anyone know the names of those girls with those great voices?

“He is the son of the man with the golden arm”. See Sinatra
One of the few Frank Sinatra Movies I liked: ( along withThe Manchurian Candidate and The First Deadly Sin.)
I bought this single twice as it came out as an updated remix. A good song but not classic G&C.
