The quiet Beatle, but no less a genius than John, Paul and Ringo. God bless them all they are the greatest band to ever have been formed we will ever know. We miss John and George greatly now and forever. Thank you Paul and Ringo for Now and Then recently, a great "final Beatles song" for now, bit who knows AI could create new music based on their writing for parts George and John would do and have Paul and Ringo still play for us their parts.
He was never underrated, man. It never happened. Maybe you are too young to know. You have idea what The Beatles meant. You have no idea who all of them had the same importance. Please, listen to their albuns carefully. See their movies! Learn about them. You don't know what you are missing. Gosh, we used to sing "We love you Beatles, on yes we do...and mentioned the names of all of them. We love you Paul, We love you John, We love you Ringo, We love you George! We would scream for all of them. It is sad people today don't know how important Beatlemania was and still is. Don't know who none of them were mor important than the other. Even when we had oour favourites, we love the others just the same. In fact, among my group of friends, George was the most loved!
Dabreu, I'm 66 years old, and have been a Beatles fan since 1964. I have all the LP's, have seen the movies (many times). I've been to Liverpool several times, and have seen Ringo and Paul (twice) live. I recommend a movie, "The Compleat Beatles" and a book, "The Secret Lives of John Lennon" by Ronald Goldman. The book is lengthy, and has much history about the band, and about them as individuals. I lived Beatlemania. My comment was related to the fact that George was in the Shadow of John and Paul, for too long. He was my favorite Beatle. RIP.
Hinduism is a load of empty garbage philosophy that goes nowhere. Never makes a point. Krishna was a legend, and I think a lot of Hindus would acknowledge that. However, I think people did have a sense that God would come in the flesh. The man Jesus (ye-shu-ah) that lived in the 1st century, however, has been substantiated as a historical man in the flesh that claimed to be God and we have historical accounts of the things He actually did and said, even from non-biblical sources (the Jewish Talmud said that He used Black Magic to perform the miracles). There’s your historical God in flesh that you should worship. George calling Krishna my sweet lord is as dumb as calling Thor my sweet lord. That being said, I think George just wanted to be different and non-mainstream and I get it. A lot of Christians are seriously slow and idiotic and just digest and regurgitate their culture. Hence the fact that this song kicks ass and Christian music sucks... ok, let’s hear the ad-hominem arguments. Don’t forget to put on your holy robe or fedora...
Thank you Jeff Lynne (ELO) for making this reunion possible and for your fabulous contribution in producing the last 2 songs ever by the Beatles. Also thank you for producing and co-writing for the last 3 Beatles individually on their solo albums and the same for so many great Legends including the Traveling Wilburys.

I think this confirms that the Beatles really loved each other as true brothers, having been through both heaven and hell as a unique body. George and Ringo were especially close, but even with Paul's need to be out front and John's mercurial jabs at the Beatles as a group and as individuals, the true bond of love was present. Ringo is just a lovely man, while Paul is the tireless performer. John was the barometer of them all, and George was the quick witted, clear thinker, without a "candy coating". I love the Beatles, and I love Ringo, John, George and Paul as individuals.
You know, I was gonna be a jerk and point out all of their numerous character flaws and heinous acts over the years but... Nah, your comment is too nice for that.

@@igorsidorenko4016, FAB, as in fabulous, most notably FAB FOUR was coined by Tony Barrow, The Beatles publicist who used the term in an early article he wrote about the group and the phrase stuck.
That is Jeff Lynne on the violin @ 1:44. Jeff Lynne, master of all instruments. The man not only wrote, but produced, sang, and played all of the instruments in many of ELO's biggest hits. He's a legend. Sorry, I'm no taking anything away from George Harrison, a LEGEND in his own right.
Jeff was a 5th Beatle if you like. A master musician who plays many instruments expertly. He spent much time with the fab 4 in studio and he produced the Beatles last 2 albums. Great musician and genuinely cool and grounded dude. As a musician for 40yrs + I can say that every musician steals a little what what they hear and like. It's called musical influence. Bless George, he will always be Fab. 👍
Ringo always seems like such a super cool dude to be around and have as a friend. Love that he shows up in songs with George, Paul, and even Tom Petty over the years.
'Long time ago when we was Fab'... not as long ago then, as this song is to us now. The Beatles were 17 years away from this song, and this song is 38 years away from 2019....
The Beatles will be 'fab' forever ... I have a 4 year old great neice who wanders about sometimes sing bits of Beatle songs ... why? her parents who were not alive when The Beatles were still together play their songs ...
One time they played it on a segment of the "Heidi and Frank Show", KLOS, Los Angeles. Heidi thought it sounded like the theme song to a lame eighties sit-com. So one person's master class in writing is another person's lame eighties sit-com theme song. Go figure
@@daniellehall9679 It's a masterpiece in concept but you have to have the video with the visual cues throughout to understand. If the Beatle's story of fame and disintegration wasn't known, the lyrics are essentially nonsense. But framed in a proper context (definitely not in a stage performance unless it's theater) it's as infectuous mentally as it is melodically. George is a minimalist and you can't play music and expect to be understood with such small and nuanced references. Far more intellectually connected than John or Paul because he could afford to sit back and watch the whole of the comedy from the sidelines.
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like George Harrison. They have great harmony singing and a songwriting style similar to The Beatles
Three things happened that November. My Dad had a major heart attack, my first wife and me legally separated and George Harrison. I cried like a baby for days. That was an emotional month.
I had a very similar reaction when I heard about Stevie Ray Vaughan's untimely demise, so I can definitely relate. As a young, up-and-coming guitarist myself, Stevie Ray was a huge influence, so his loss was a bitter blow. What really chapped my @$$ the most about the unfairness of it all was that his helicopter flew into a man-made ski hill. That's right...they had to build it so the pilot could fly right into it. At the time, the only consolation I can recall about that horrible day was that Eric Clapton was also supposed to be on the same helicopter, but he decided to stay behind to party some more instead.
“When We Was Fab” so eerily recreates a Beatlesque mélange of sounds that you’d swear it was a Magical Mystery Tour outtake. When Harrison decided upon pursuing the track, it helped that he had a kindred spirit in the producer’s chair in Jeff Lynne. “I just had the thought, ‘I’d like to write a song that’s reminiscent of that period of ’67,’” Harrison recalled in an interview from that time. “In my head, I could hear Ringo counting it in, ‘One-two duh-duh-dum, duh-duh-dum-dum.’ And I just started right there writing that song, and then Jeff was around and we got out this piano and we came up with all these little bits like the catchy little piano part that plays the melody on the chorus. And, of course, the start of the song and the original intention was that we should have that kind of sound.” In addition to Starr’s inimitable drum fills, Harrison’s familiar slide and the icy piano part recalling “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “When We Was Fab” also contains quizzical strings and crazed backing vocals a la “I Am The Walrus” and a sitar coda worthy of “Love You To.” That it all holds together without sounding like some Stars On 45 concoction is testament to Lynne’s estimable production skills and Harrison’s charming lyrics, which look back with clear eyes, tongue partially in cheek, and warm heart. Harrison doesn’t get caught up in a blow-by-blow history of The Beatles, instead settling on a more impressionistic take, like memories flashing before his eyes in random order. He quotes Bob Dylan (“But it’s all over now, Baby Blue”) and Smokey Robinson (“And you really got a hold on me”) but only indirectly hints at Beatles’ lyrics: The “take you away” interlude recalls “Magical Mystery Tour,” and his insistence that “Still the life flows on and on” references his own “Within You Without You.” He also gets one more shot in at the taxman for old time sake. Harrison balances out halcyon days of pullovers and green grass with some darker remembrances. “Caresses fleeced you in the morning light/ Casualties at dawn” is not the kind of feel-good couplet you would associate with Beatlemania. And his assertion that “The microscopes have magnified the tears/ Studied warts and all” seems to be a dig at journalists looking to dig up the underbelly of the Fab phenomenon instead of just enjoying the gleaming surface. Ultimately though, the sweet far outweighs the bitter. When Harrison sings “And we did it all,” wonder and gratitude are evident in his voice. The accompanying video added to the feeling with a trove of winks and nods to the Beatle mythos. Maybe “When We Was Fab” isn’t grammatically correct, but it was right on the money for those who were missing the magic of The Beatles and the wisdom of the “quiet” one.
The song has Jeff's pretty-unmistakable feel to it, and they were good friends. Jeff was originally so ga-ga about getting to work with George. :) Then they hit it off and collaborated with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and Tom Petty. It was pretty much a mutual admiration society and let them make great music and have fun together.
Why do I usually end up in tears when I listen to George's work? I'm listening away happily, then the tears just well up. I feel happy and sad at the same time. Not just this tune. So many others too.

Woos indicate I Am The Walrus Song, you can hear a slight Mellotron flute in the left channel. Ringo is carrying a heavy and long piano (Carry That Weight reference). String arrangement indicating arranged tunes by George Martin and maybe a nod to the B side of Yellow Submarine. You can see also the 7 wonders and George playing a cello (presumably indicating the strings part he did on All You Need Is Love, though he played the violin there).
My favorite thing is the ending, when George's signature Indian sound takes over, at the same time George parallels a Hindu Deity with many arms, and he finally lifts up his feet in a lotus position and floats in the air. This is just so George, I love it.
I love the way this songs incorporates all the stylistic riffs of the Beatles, you can hear "I am the Walrus", Eleanor Rigby, and many, many others, "Within you, without you" at the end with the sitar riff.

George converted to Hinduism so he's reincarnated. HE'S STILL ALIVE!!
Yep.....in history!!
He's with his lord...💕

And, of course, the start of the song and the original intention was that we should have that kind of sound.”
In addition to Starr’s inimitable drum fills, Harrison’s familiar slide and the icy piano part recalling “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “When We Was Fab” also contains quizzical strings and crazed backing vocals a la “I Am The Walrus” and a sitar coda worthy of “Love You To.” That it all holds together without sounding like some Stars On 45 concoction is testament to Lynne’s estimable production skills and Harrison’s charming lyrics, which look back with clear eyes, tongue partially in cheek, and warm heart.

His name was George....
But you can call him George.
The song has Jeff's pretty-unmistakable feel to it, and they were good friends. All anyone nowadays can do is appreciate the music and just ponder about wishing to be alive during that time period. We can’t forget about the daydreaming we may do every once in a while too. 😢
@@Ultimate_Weirdo_Maybe this music resonates with us so much because we once lived during this time in a previous life. 😉
@@SamElliottsStache Perhaps so. It’s possible after all.
I was there and it was FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'd all like a little time travel now and again.
Harrison was amazingly talented at creating a spiritual/mystical vibe to his music.
This is one of those rare jams that slaps immediately out of the gate without needing to build up. Just launches you right into a ride of your life
One of the most unique things about this song and George was his choice of chord progressions and use of theory (whether felt or thought of, either way). Very few famous pop/rock artists take such interesting risks with songwriting. Sting is another example.
There are many...Steely Dan, Elton John, Billy Joel, Chicago and a number of others.
Elliott Smith
@@sess122 there are definitely many, but they are more rare as mainstream music simplified itself over the last couple of decades. Artists like Jacob Collier and Dirty Loops are incredibly daring when it comes to harmony and I hope they keep getting recognized and influence modern popular music to be more creative.
@@knob3887 taking a risk can happen regardless of who wrote what. Just the choice itself can be risky or daring to include in a song.
@Not In The Box Well, same two unusual chords, same key. Coincidence unlikely (although ABBA also stole it from "Glass onion", also in same key). If you don't like the word "stealing", there's that old quote "mediocrities borrow, geniuses steal"
Interesting composition. George Harrison at his best.
George transcends at the end.
Art imitating life.
Rest in Paradise, George.
The part where Elton John puts coin into the Beatles' jar has me crying every time. How true, how true it is.
after elton did that he had his wallet picked from his back pocket by one of george's hands haha
@@archangelmusic13 lmao never noticed that one
@@Driessens_Peter yeah not many noticed that.
@@archangelmusic13how did I miss that after all the times I watched this! Lol. Great little detail.
@@hiscreation78 at the 2:08 mark you see paul mccartney walk by. did you notice that? or did you miss that as well?
George was always so vulnerable in his lyrics. Even with the fact that he missed the Beatles-
In lovin memory of George Harrison RIP 🎸
Jeff Lynne's ELO sound is all over this underappreciated classic, which isn't a bad thing.
Ya it is surprising how much George's sliding guitar mix well with the ELO sound.
Great composition with Jeff engineering.
Isn't that Jeff Lynn in the video with the violin?
At minute 1:43
Jeff Lynn borrowed a lot from the Beatles too.
Song still gives me chills. Bittersweet but beautiful.
Hello Elizabeth, how are you doing?
2:03 is the closest we’ve ever got to having all 4 beatles with each other
nah what about ehen the beatles were a thing
@Matthew Lewin Paul is not dead.
Actually the real closest was the anthology video from the 90s
Actually the real closest was in the 60s
Bot 0902 i think he meant that the person there isnt paul. it really isnt, he even said it. hes the distorted dude that walks shortly after.
and now that im realizing im an idiot this dude actually is a faul believer. shit.
Probably one of the most unique and out there music videos of all time.
We love you and miss you George Harrison and John Lennon!!!!!
George was always a Beatle, even when solo. He missed the magic of being Fab more than the other three, even Paul did. GBY George Harrison.
RIP
A LEGEND
AN ANGEL
GEORGE HARRISON
even tho I wasnt born at the time when your music was released or anything the Beatles did, I want to honour it as if it was part of my life.
I understand you... I was born in a time when he was already dead... but his music is still present... I know this is weird, but I feel like he is my guardian angel :)
I would have a heart attack if I saw George Harrison playing on the sidewalk
LMAO
I would be just as shocked, seeing as how he's been dead for almost twenty years. 😮
I'd wonder if I was dead.😱 Since he died quite a few years ago. Or if it was just a guy who looked like him.👥
Ninja_Baseball_Haruhara yeah especially if he had three arms
@I.J.B.P
Probably
I can't believe it's been almost 20 years since we lost George 💔 😢
This and Free As A Bird gives me chills
I feel like this is George looking back at his past just remembering him as the Fab Four and I think he missed it but now he’s here writing his songs and expressing his feelings
Oh my, you are SO perceptive. Maybe Captain Obvious needs an assistant.
Beautifull harmony. Jeff and George together is just genious !!!
Agreed!!!
Jeff Lynne (ELO) +George Harrison=FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's been long enough now that this song effects me on two levels... The first level is realizing that for him at this time the FAB days were well behind the Fab Four. The second level is more personal for me and it's realizing I'm way past the point I was in my life when this came out in the 80's. George always put so much meaning behind his lyrics. He is missed.
Happy Birthday George, Rest In Peace, you’ll be forever missed 🥺. And through this comment George, I send you a prayer. Yesterday my dog ,Star, passed away. He only lived to be 8 years old.... I loved him so much. Could you do me this one favor, and tell him how much I loved him? I’ll forever miss him.... He’ll always and forever be in my heart 🥺. Me and my best friend always said that if Star was any of the Beatles, he’d be Ringo, because his last name is Starr, he’s got a beautiful big nose, and he would mess up a lot...... I love you both, don’t ever forget that 🥺💖
After years of enjoying the DVD version of "Concert for George", I just recently purchased the Blu-ray version. If you have the equipment to appreciate it, I highly recommend it. Never ever gets old.
George was an amazing song writer and musician and his legacy will never fade away
George Harrison, my favourite Beatle! An incredibly talented musician. Great singer, guitarrist and composer! Love you for ever George ❤
x 2
I have seen this millions of times (not literally) and never noticed Jeff Lynne (ELO) playing the violin at 1:33 of the song. wild...but it does have a "touched-by-Lynne" feel to it.
Jeff is also singing BG vocals. As well as playing strings . It sounds like an ELO arrangement, IMO. Great song by GH, he was great ...
At first glance it looks like ringo but holy shut you’re right, it’s Lynne.
this is probually my favorite George Harrison song. Great song. Amazing artist. Best group. Rest in peace George Harrison (2001) As well as John Ono Lennon (1980)
Agent 101232 you forget one person. He who died first of them all: RIP James Paul McCartney!
@@mingimajewski3546 I know a lot of people believe in the death of Paul with Faul and such but I think that Paul is still alive. I guess we may never know for sure.
30+ years later, and I can still hear all the references to the Beatles, Apple Studios, Beatlemania, and the hype. Such talent! RIP.
My local radio station had a great weekend playing Beatles songs with solo works too and I had not heard this since I was a youngster, this is a masterful song! Much love to your light, loving soul sweet George Harrison.
Love it. So well produced by Jeff Lynne who certainly knew all about The Beatles. It's so Beatley!
He knows everything
He co-wrote it as well. I can hear ELO in it.
Definitely a mix of ELO and the Beatles. 🥰 Two brilliant bands
Thank you Jeff Lynne for giving George the motivation to record other albums and create with you the best super group of all time The Travelling Wilburys.
Such a great song, has a kind of nostalgic melancholy to it that really touches you. Superb production by Jeff Lynne which harks back to the Fab Four’s ‘Walrus’ era sound.
Thank you Jeff Lynne (ELO) for reviving George's solo career.
