Those ligths are actually to attract fish at night. And those are powered by batteries or by the Engine if they know how to do some electric stuff. And probably most of them use solar powered lights.
Im a Filipino but im always surprise how beautiful places here in the Philippines I see here in vlogs in yt. What a beautiful village great sand crystal clear water at calm waves 😍 damn I Love my homeland so many places that are not discovered yet as tourist spot 🇵🇭 and the people too my "kababayans" or countrymen are so friendly, always smiling, kind specially with foreigners because thats the highlight of most of the Filipinos the hospitality. Have a safe sail! And thank you for featuring this village. In behalf of my fellow Filipinos mabuhay at salamat po! ❤️🇵🇭
Nice wooden boats, creative style, people sailing for thousands of years as a tradition, friendly, hospitable, smiling, generous, lives in beautiful islands with white sand beaches, can speak english, wow! A full complement!
My dad was telling me stories that he used to catch fish when he was young. Their property is sea-front, hence becoming a fisherman is a natural tendency. He was from Leyte, where he also witnessed the US take over of the island controlled by Japanese soldiers. I am not sure if he saw General MacArthur.
They usually return to shore around 4 am, get their catch offloaded around 5 am and transport most of their catch to the cities or nearby towns by around 6 am.
Awesome episode from my mom's gorgeous home country! It is very common to mispronounce the native language you're referring to - it's actually said like this: tuh-GAA-luhg. Thank you for all of your hard work getting these videos online!
Born and raised in the Philippines and you know my country better than I do ... AMAZING ... Islands and regions speaks their own unique dialect. The national language is Tagalog spoken mostly in northern islands of the country ... Txs for dropping by in the Philippines
Its crazy how many boats there are out there fishing. Southern Kalimantan Coast is full of Squiders I counted around 100 last time we sailed through there.
My uncle made a device that’s is the same thing but it has a weed eater under the light killing little bugs and basically chums the water. It attaches on your dock. Works well
I am here residing in pangasihan gingoog city mis.or.here part of northern mindanao. You know guys i dont know why i keep following your vlog may i like you guys coz you visited our country it feels so proud. And you are so cool persons thank you just have fun here in phil. Pls you are welcome.
it was certainly illegal for that trawler to be seen within municipal waters (area 15 kilometers from the general coastline of a locality). all sorts of problems in many of our coastlines, indeed. awesome video, again, guys ... thanks for sharing your journey through your keen lenses. kudos!
Usually right after they go back in land they quickly get their nets and get the fish so that they will sold it early in market and rest so 10 am is very late
You need to go to the "wet market" (fish market) and talk to the vendors and they can hook you up with some local fishermen. The sea urchin edible part looks like a yellow orange mustard and taste like the ocean smells (the clean ocean smell), they sell it in a pint Tanduay Rum bottles. I've been wanting to see their lures too and when I get my banka boat built I will offer to take a local fisherman out and we will share our techniques. I am from the U.S. retired in the Philippines on Bantayan island. Try to get some fresh scallops they are really good! You can watch my most recent youtube video to see how to cook and eat them. "My Paeadise On Bantayan Island". Are you guys monetized on youtube? I never see any commercials. It is worth it to monetize😀
The language they are speaking is bisaya its also an another dialect mostly spoken in visayas and mindanao area in 9:14 the guy said "wait they want to take a picture of the fish"
after you guys are done traveling live in our country the philippines youll love it! goodluck with your travelling and be safe always! its more fun in the philippines
Yeah those lights are powered by batteries. They usually catch tunas, sailfish and other priced fishes 😊 im from the philippines and i love seeing your vids.
A universal translator would work..lol Ta gal log is the pronunciation (not spelling) of the name of their native language. I had a co worker teach me all kinds of swear words he would laugh so hard at my pronunciations. Beautiful culture and some great foods..lumpia is a favorite. Very beautiful Islands be careful for pirates and thieves. Safe journey thanks for sharing.
@@officialdreymedina3468 Oh yeah they were good cuss words. Bacala putunginama spelling is wrong but I think you get the ideal. De onay susu dalagon..got me in trouble..lol
Hi just to let u know that they are not speaking tagalog its bisaya. Philipines has a lot of dialects and languange that are not mutually inteligible with tagalog however you can get by arround the philippines since most understand english.
I made Lure's out of Wine and Champaign corks with a hook at the end. Tied Christmas ribbon onto the cork and caught Mahi and Tuna with it. Performed better than any store bought.
helping hand here Ben. the boat with two props has two Honda engines, they usually use one for cruising, two if they on a hurry. the light you saw is battery powered 12v florescent or led bulb. sometimes they use 1kv honda generator set but its noisy. the brighter the lights the better. they also use gas lamps like the colman petromax. squid fishing boat use multi colored led lights to attract squids. the huge boat is not a fishing boat. it was a tourist boat.
Another great video. Keep up the great work. I really look forward to seeing your videos every week. And I've learned a ton from you from a videography, drone footage techniques, editing perspective. And your storytelling is outstanding. Best on TH-cam. The squid boats remind me of Haitian fishermen, who go out for 48 hours at a time in a hollowed out tree trunk with a battery and simple electric light to throw overboard to attract fish. Unbelievable how resourceful they are. Anyway, thank you so much for everything. You are the best. Warm regards, Jim Andersen, CatBoat Adventures, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts
You guys are amazing! You just dont know how we appreciate your vlogs thank you for showing us your wonderful journey. Best of luck and keep sailing.. 😊😇😇
Where you guys anchored of coast in southern cebu island close to ferry that cross to dumaguete on July 14 ? I think I saw your boat of main road, I was heading to cebu city to go back to America

I had started watching and also follw "adventures of an old seadog" he is right behind you... never in my life have I felt so inclined to follow in your footsteps - maybe some day... Thank you very much for being so creative, managing to show so much in such a short time you make me feel as if I was right there with you - much obliged.
The light is used when there is no moon to attract the fish..Schools of fish will swim around the light..They will turn off the light and scoop the fish, then turn it on again..It catches squid, sardines, anchovies and the likes..
Love your vids of the Philopines so much so am thinking of going there next year on holiday and I live in the UK but my son in law is originally from the philopines so doing to visit his familly there....well that's the plan just gir to work on the wife to convince her to let me go.
you should watch these brits bloggers who are based in the philippines or been there in the philippines a lot ...... loz's leisure, juicy vlog, coshan uncharted, likemardons, everyday tv & carl the brit in the philippines ........ good luck man ......
In my place like visaya . they are just curious about foreign language...and around the island of cebu and Mindanao speak visaya..and fisherman mostly they just know a little bit english like me.. hard sometimes to understand specially in remote area they just focus in fishing ..daily task no time to study to learned in English language..they just know visaya only but they can understand only basic english..but hard to saying..
I think you are in the visayas region where people speak bisaya(local dialect). in visayas region there are also other dialects. 1. Lights - It is usually used to attract fish at night and usually squids too. Fishing with this method is usually more effective when there is less moonlight. It is powered by batteries. Most fishing banca engines do not produce electricity, it is only used to propel the boat. 2. The tin cans - Used to cook food or heat water for coffee. Its is a clay stove covered with tin can to protect it from the wind. 3. Stacked propeller - Usually used in larger boats with smaller engines but 2 engines. Some larger boats with bigger finances has bigger engines and used to go offshore or farther out. 4. Lures - Nothing special but the bait is usually smaller fish preferably sardine and the local fisherman has techniques how to let the fish appear to be weak in the water. they pull it back and forth. Large fish has preferences in smaller fish and they know that. It would be nice that you have stayed here in the PH longer. learn to fish with the locals. I'm not a fisher man i just gather this knowledge since i was a kid because we usually go to the beach and wait for the fisherman to arrive fro some unique catch. I have been following your blog since I am very interested in Cats as a boat.

I heard the local speak in their Native language. It's Bisaya. Tagalog is the language in Luzon the Northern Island. What a beautiful spot the water is so clear hmm.

I always learn something watching your videos and I'm no newbie. thank you for being out there.
Great idea to trade some lures, i would also try and see about getting one of those bolo knives (hand made) like the one used to chop the sail fish..
They usually return to shore around 4 am, get their catch offloaded around 5 am and transport most of their catch to the cities or nearby towns by around 6 am.
Would of been nice if you went out there when they were going fishing or went into the village a bit more . I like when you explore. Love the video .

In case you didn't know, most tuna fishers in the Philippines catch squid at night and use that as live bait for the tuna.
