I've been watching a number of sailing videos lately. Yours are excellent. I'm 76 now and no longer sail but it was and is one of my passions in life. One thing I learned early on was to sleep with my feet facing forward. if you hit something hard in these increasingly trashy waters you're less likely to break your neck! Keep on trucking mama!

I cannot swim, but I’m always pulled into watching these white knuckle sailing shows. This was nuts, glad you’re safe.

In those conditions would not matter whether or not you can swim.

Thanks for educating a retired aviator on the capabilities of a quality boat and accomplished Captain. I'm looking into moving from power boating into sailing. Your video is the first I've found in hours and hours of watching TH-cam sailing videos, which really shows the potential of a superbly honed Captain and sail boat. I'm curious as to what speed you averaged in that crossing.

Hi Neil, thanks alot! We did an avarage of 7,2 and top surf of 19,8 kts when entering the shallows of the Norwegian coast. Crazy, crazy ride🌊

I lived on the west coast of ireland. Those winter storms coming in from the sea are absolutely unlike anything I had ever experienced before. They were brutal and relentless.

Wow - what a video! I have sailed in very bad weather - but always in a fully crewed large offshore racing yacht. And sailing out of Lerwick knowing you were heading dead downwind in gale force winds and worsening sea onto a lee shore. I can only imagine your mental struggle alone in these conditions. But you managed very well and kept filming and commentating - and avoided carbon monoxide poisoning! And you swear like a Scotsman. Congratulations - just brilliant.

Wow!!...What a good video!...You have managed to show the realistic conditions that you experienced and what non offshore sailors like me can only imagine!
Well done!..Such a passage takes considerable skill/knowledge a bucket loads of guts!!😮😊❤ Well done indeed Erik...showing the sort of determination that your Viking Forebares must have shown all those centuries ago.
    Best wishes

I was going to say if reality TV was like this, there would be a good reason to watch it. This is the kind of journey that is memorable once it is all over. Awesome footage, I soiled my pants when it got close to that Lighthouse with those big cliffs. Thanks for sharing your adventures, it is inspiring to see other human beings doing great stuff for no other reason but freedom. Long live Erik the Viking, a true Spirit🌊⛵

Tak, Erik... Nice video showing you harrowing trip... I am 69 years old now, two weeks ago... I delivered sailboats through the mid 70s to mid 80's and then took many trips through the 90's all going from the NYC area delivering only large sailboats, 36 to 80 plus. Only hiring crew I needed, but many times alone. One trip in particular, from Tiverton Rhode Island down to NJ. Usually an easy two to three day sail in good weather. Turned into a harrowing experience. Around 1977, a mate and I began in sunny weather, NO GPS in those days, no good advance weather. A hurrican was coming up the coast below New Jersey and as we were heading down Long Island NY, we hit 40 know winds, 20 to 30 foot seas, sometimes going to 50 feet. No sails up we were making 10 ti 11 knots!! My mate began to cry, thinking we were going to die. I stayed tethered to the helm all night into the next day. The mate was calling Coast Guard for a rescue. I didn't know about that. They said we were on our own as they had lost 5 other yachts out near us. I miss those days... LOL.. Nice videos you put out. I am now a subscriber. Be safe Lad...

Very impressive and powerful, these rising dark waves of the Northern sea ... Amazing that one reefed jib pulls the boat ahead. Must be one-of-a-kind feeling to nap on the floor at night while the boat swifts through the water

I had a 43.5 Beneteau that carried the same hardware. I've been caught in some tough spots with her, and the vessels were built strong! I traveled 12 hrs downwind in 40kts of wind with a dry cockpit and no problems.
My sailing was in the Caribbean, with more running from hurricanes than I care to admit. This North Sea and that brutal weather is hard on your body. Singlehanding is tricky when the conditions are demanding, as you well know.
My hat's off to you, brother!
