As a Berliner some of my favourite parts of the city are: Wilmersdorf/Charlottenburg: the area around Savignyplatz, between Steinplatz and Kurfürstendamm. Schöneberg: the area around Winterfeldplatz. Kreuzberg: around Mehringdamm, Gneisenaustrasse, Bergmannstrasse, Neukölln: between Hermannplatz and Maibachufer, Weserstrasse, Pannierstrasse. All these are parts of the city with a nice and very diverse urban feeling. You'll find lots of so called "Kiez" in many parts of Berlin, all with a nice flair.
Its more Dangerous for naiv people who think Kreuzberg is Just fun. Some place like Disneyworld. Who go to Bronx or Harlem and wonder when see reality? Every bigger City can be Dangerous.
On my three visits to Berlin I´ve either stayed in Wilmersdorf, which is quiet, or near the Ku for attractions and easy access, but I´ve always found Schönberg to be the nicest place for cafes and restaurants and a lovely peaceful vibe.

Will be there in June... Can not wait. I am not in my 20's but would still like to stay in a young and hip area... Cool area with bars and cafe's. And lots of street art
I'm from Berlin. Wedding can be a good place for tourists if you stay around Gesundbrunnen station (even some reasonable hotels there, close to the station). Best (and short) connection from there by U+S-Bahn to all districts of Berlin, and a great local mix of Turkish, Arabian, and of course German/Berlin Food around Badstraße, e.g. "Curry Baude" (top Currywurst), some wonderful turkish cafe's and the nice park "Humboldthain" just 5 minutes walk away... This area does for sure not resemble the safest place at night on this planet, especially if you walk alone deep in the night in some less populated streets; but if you have a bit travel experience: do it, it's a good place at all, where you have a lot of shops, great eateries = much better as for example typical tourist locations "Kurfürstendamm" or "Friedrichstraße". It's still not too much "gentrification" here, but that means relative cheap prices for food and it's one train station to Prenzlauer Berg or a few train stations to Mitte.
Nice video. That said, the first area I stayed in Berlin was right next to the Hbf. The price was right and my accommodations were fine. Location-wise, It was super convenient thanks to the city's great transportation system and central enough to be not far on foot from many key locations. But this short video offers a nice look at a variety of other parts of town. Berlin is an affordable world-class destination, and I can't wait for my next visit. Vielen Dank und Tschüß ...

Thanks for dropping this! Brings back many memories for me. My first apartment in Berlin was at Kastanienallee 18! I used to walk around the corner to Mauer Park on Sundays in the summer in 2012 when Berlin was still sexy-cheap. I remember going to Fete De La Musique there. Also, did you forget to put a shot of vodka in your Club Mate?😂😂😂 F-Hein was great for me in 2012-2014. Simon Dach Str had many cool bars and I also went to Cassiopeia. Not sure if it’s still open. If one was new in Berlin back then, you had to hit up Club Matrix at Warschauerstr 😂 I don’t think Wedding will ever be the place to be. I was told it would be when I first moved to Berlin in April 2012. Neukölln and Kreuzkölln were the places to be along with some of the bars like Monarch, Luzia, and Cake Club near Kotbusser Tor. If one lives on Paul Linke-Ufer or Reichenbergerstr, it shouldn’t be too bad unless that has changed.
Hahahaha omg dude, you put the biggest smile on my face with that comment! I also lived in Prenzlauer Berg in 2012 and worked in Kreuzkölln so basically have the same view of Berlin as you 😀🙌

@@joshuabenjamin7969 Thanks for sharing this info. I think I lived in Berlin at the best time. Well, I missed the last Love Parade by one year but oh well. Berlin will always have a special place in my heart.
You skipped over Bergmannkiez, which is incredibly pretty, safe, has great restaurants and shopping, and still a bit of that hipster vibe. Probably more yuppie parents now, but still plenty of record shops and bookstores. Marheineke Markthalle is filled with yummy and cheap food. There is some great bicycle infrastructure on Bergmannstraße itself, and it's just a lovely area. Not a lot of hotels directly in it, as it is a small area, but there are a few near Urbanstraße. Yeah, area at Hbf. has improved, and within 15-20 minute walks are some other good areas. Tiergarten Park is there, Haus der Kulturen is there. This area was really deserted and dead in 2004, but now it's a good place and with all the parks and green there is some space to breathe...
I like Charlottenburg and Scheunenviertel (Mitte), particularly because I am close to synagogues there. I also like Charlottenburg because it is quieter and more traditional. Some of the nice hotels in Charlottenburg are on the 2nd or 3rd floors of buildings, which is not so convenient, although they have elevators. (I travel as a single, elderly man.)
Hi Kristofer, thank you for the short info. I wanted to know which is a budget friendly place for a student to stay in Berlin as I need to travel to Potsdam for my university
Hiya, thanks for your comment. I can't help you find a budget-friendly place to stay long-term in Berlin, but I suggest looking for accommodation in West Berlin, as the S7 train to Potsdam runs through the Western part of town. So check out areas near stations such as Bellevue, Tiergarten, Zoo and Charlottenburg - then it will be super easy to get to the Uni in Potsdam. The S7 runs "through" Berlin, though - so you could also get the train from Friedrichshain, for example.
Many people underestimate Charlottenburg, which used to be the center of West-Berlin. A very nice and interesting area! Affordable prices, very relaxed people, easy access to all the attractions with public transport!
I’m in Charlottenburg and it’s everything than cheap, in the contrary: Gastronomy and rents are more expensive than in other areas. Been “cool” in the 60s but now it’s only boring & rich.
But Hauptbahnhof area has a nice access to the Spree and government quarters. I think it’s fine if you find a good place there, and of course the main station is a short U-Bahn, S-Bahn or tram ride for most places.
Nice video man! Coming to Berlin soon, i’ll be there for around 1-2 days, could you share the best places you’d visit if you were in Berlin for the first time? Thanks in advance!
How times have changed. Kreuzberg back in the 1980s used to be the hip place to be. I remember young people (like me at the time) turning down any offer of a room or apartment, even if it was cheap and amazing, if it wasn't in Kreuzberg. Now you're advised to avoid the place.
So true!! I lived in Berlin from 1990 until 1998 and Kreuzberg was still the place for hipster but I do remember before I left, a lot of my friends were moving to Prenzl' berg❤❤
Thank you! It wouldn't be the first place on my mind if I were to recommend an area to stay in Berlin for a solo traveler. It can feel a bit over-touristy and perhaps a bit soulless, if I'm being honest. That said, you'll be very close to many of the historical attractions, so it's not all bad - but if you want to 'rub shoulders' with the locals, I'd recommend looking at areas such as Prenzlauer Berg or Friedrichshain.
I have lived in Kreuzberg with my children for half a decade. Don't stay here if you want lots of green space, gorgeous cafes on every corner, and some of the best children's museums in the city all within close proximity to Mitte.
Hi Vic, you own a tour company. We r from SG coming to Berlin/Munich (10) do u have a 3/2 night kind of tour where we can see Berlin plus it outskirts. After which we stay another 2 night on our own.
Prenzlauerberg is not any more cheap, there is lot of foreign mafia who control the state govt own house and private houses and charge extra money under the table to get a room for rent . From last four to five years from now it has also become very costly and renting a house to live has become very difficult.
Great video...me and 4 of my friends are heading to Berlin In April for a long weekend . we are all in our 50s so can you recommend a decent area with some decent bars and hopefully no trouble...cheers:)
Cheers! It would make perfect sense to stay around Friedrichstrasse Station, where you've got good connections with the S-bahn and U-bahn + there are plenty of good pubs close by, especially if you walk up to Oranienburger Strasse. Leonardo Hotel Berlin Mitte is an excellent and affordable hotel (I stayed there when I filmed this video), and you've also got the NH Collection Berlin Mitte and the Melia Berlin around there. Hope that helps - I've got more hotel recommendations over on my travel blog: destinationwellknown.com/where-to-stay-berlin/
Hiya! I used to work in Neukölln and I would say it depends greatly on where in the area you'll be staying... There are pockets that can feel a bit sketchy and then you've got whole streets that are just a hipster paradise.
Unfortunately not if you are Jewish or gay and you show it. The beggars at Hermannplatz can sometimes become aggressive. There are many anti-Semitic defacements in the cityscape of Neukölln too. The hipster space in Neukölln is Schillerkiez. There are nice gay clubs too, don’t get me wrong. Schwuz is a nice example There are often clashes between Arabian youth gangs and the police. Also hotspot of the Arabian clans in Berlin you know from TV. Otherwise you should manage.
Stayed in Mitte (north of the river) 3 times over the last 8 years, Silberfisch is my favourite bar in berlin to visit. Low key, reasonable cost and good service.
Oh nice, I must have walked past that bar a hundred times without ever venturing in - I'll try and have a beer there next time I'm in Berlin. Thanks for sharing 🙌
@@destinationwellknown if you live without kids yeah. But with kids and if you live there long-term, it is pretty nice :) Btw, Bismarkstr, Adenauerplatz and Wilmesdorfer str are pretty "not boring" I would say :)
I also think it's a bit boring. There are better parts of Berlin. And, transit is not as good there. They have no trams, there often long distances between U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations, and the bike infra is not as good as the rest of Berlin.
Not much around Hauptbahnhof? Only the harbour, the entire political quarter incl. Reichstag and Kanzleramt, the Haus der Kulturen etc etc. Well, for some people this IS much.
I can agree with your point about Hauptbahnhof, but Kreuzberg?? Come on. I think you may just be trying to keep tourists out. It's not dangerous, and if you don't want to present your kids a sanitized version of the world, Kottbusser Tor can be absolutely fine. Also, great comics store, great Turkish restaurants, great clubs, cafes, parks, etc. Take everything this guy says with a grain of salt. Come to Berlin and find your own version of city -- like I did 30 years ago.
I worked in the area for 3 years - some station exits around Kotbusser or Schlesisches Tor are congregation areas for drug abuse, and police intervention is common. Safe is perhaps a subjective term - I never felt unsafe, but certain spots might not something young family members are ready for. If prepared and liberal, sure, but that doesn't describe a large part of the world. Other parts in Kreuzberg are absolutely lovely!
@@richardwebb2691 I'll give you those points. There has been a marked uptick in drug use the past few years, and now it seems nearly every exit of every train station in town is a possible user point.
Nobody I know would want to stay in Mitte because most parts are dead at night. And if you want to get mugged at night, then definitely stay in Neukölln and Wedding. It also gives you the kind of ghetto vibe you´re probably looking for when you´re from a quaint village in a lovely country ;-).
Also a place to avoid is Potsdamer Platz! There is only one exemption, that is the Filmmuseum Berlin, that unfortunately will shut down its doors in October, due to ending of their rental contract. There is nothing to see here, except for some scyscrapers! No real life, no real berliners will go there!
@@destinationwellknown Look at the film Berlin symphonie ofa big city, made in the silent era, potsdamer plate was the entertainment and shopping center with its department stores, theaters, etc, the NS regime closed a lot and then the occupation zone lines went through the area esp the wall itself,,t was a ruin until 89 and there were efforts to revitalize it. It was the Piccadilly the Broadway of the city in popular imagination.,
Last time I have been to Berlin on my way to Tunis in June 2022 I had to stay one night in a hotel close to the airport BER. To go from the airport to my hotel I took the bus, and I managed the bus driver yelling at me twice.... So "Welcome to Berlin!" (By the way: He was not a racist. He yelled also at an Indian couple (even the woman spoke a little bit German), and at a 100% ethnic German....) Avoid that town. There are better places in Germany.
Only thing good in your video is the advice that tourists should stay away from Kreuzberg. Actually even better: stay away from Berlin! It definitely depends on your behaviour, but chances are you're not welcome here.
Do you have any examples ? I've been living here over 2 years now, and have hosted many family members. While many restaurant staff aren't friendly, they aren't rude, either, unlike Paris, which I've experienced open hostility and extreme rudeness.
Neukölln and Wedding are dangerous area to live, and most of the time your don’t hear German speaking around, and when moving around you might feel you are not in Germany!
This is so not true. I lived in both neighborhoods. And they are not dangerous by any means. Yes you do hear a lot of different languages but that’s because of all the hipsters moving there.

Schwuz is a nice example
There are often clashes between Arabian youth gangs and the police.
Love the name 'Silberfisch' btw 😅🪳
The worst thing that can happen to you in Kreuzberg is that a millionaire evicts you from your appartement 😂
😁🫣
Which of the area is cheap and good at the same time
That's a tough question 😀 Perhaps Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain are your best bets here.
@@destinationwellknownDepends where in Kreuzberg, the more gentrified and hipster-filled areas can be pricey as hell

Thanks for watching 🙌
Not mentioning Charlottenbourg-Wilmesdorf as the best place to live is a crime... :)
Haha, I think it’s a bit boring tbh 😅
@@destinationwellknown if you live without kids yeah. But with kids and if you live there long-term, it is pretty nice :)
Btw, Bismarkstr, Adenauerplatz and Wilmesdorfer str are pretty "not boring" I would say :)
I also think it's a bit boring. There are better parts of Berlin. And, transit is not as good there. They have no trams, there often long distances between U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations, and the bike infra is not as good as the rest of Berlin.
Yes that is all true. Pls don't stay or move here. Thx! Boring as hell.🎉
Not much around Hauptbahnhof? Only the harbour, the entire political quarter incl. Reichstag and Kanzleramt, the Haus der Kulturen etc etc. Well, for some people this IS much.
Oh good that's were iam staying 😊
Avoid: U8
Stay: U4
Ive never been to berlin I've been to munich nuremberg wurzburg cologne kolblenz and ruddiestein have you ever been in Poland or the Czech Republic
Good tip - I think I've been around there a couple of times and always wondered why people know this place...
@@destinationwellknown
Look at the film Berlin symphonie ofa big city, made in the silent era, potsdamer plate was the entertainment and shopping center with its department stores, theaters, etc, the NS regime closed a lot and then the occupation zone lines went through the area esp the wall itself,,t was a ruin until 89 and there were efforts to revitalize it. It was the Piccadilly the Broadway of the city in popular imagination.,

The best place to eat is Sonnenallee Neu Köln ,😉😉😉😉
It’s a strange phenomenon, but wherever I move to in Berlin, the crime rate skyrockets.
Hahaha oh damn! Where is that currently? Just so I can avoid it 🤣

Best to visit Poland instead.
Where would you suggest?
we are visiting Wroclaw and then getting a train to Berlin so are covering both (from UK)

@@slawekwojtowicz sure I'll get to more of it in time
Last time I have been to Berlin on my way to Tunis in June 2022 I had to stay one night in a hotel close to the airport BER. To go from the airport to my hotel I took the bus, and I managed the bus driver yelling at me twice.... So "Welcome to Berlin!"
(By the way: He was not a racist. He yelled also at an Indian couple (even the woman spoke a little bit German), and at a 100% ethnic German....)
Avoid that town. There are better places in Germany.
Only thing good in your video is the advice that tourists should stay away from Kreuzberg. Actually even better: stay away from Berlin! It definitely depends on your behaviour, but chances are you're not welcome here.
Why aren’t you welcome?
Do you have any examples ? I've been living here over 2 years now, and have hosted many family members. While many restaurant staff aren't friendly, they aren't rude, either, unlike Paris, which I've experienced open hostility and extreme rudeness.
Prenzlauerberg? You must be joking. It's not 1999 anymore...
Just been to Berlin this weekend and Prenzlauer Berg is still my favourite area 🥰
For tourists, it's a great area to stay.
It is also a dream to live there if you can afford it.
"Berlin ist ziemlich scheiße."
- so ziemlich jeder Spandauer xD
True 😎
I was in Kreusberg and I was murdered three times there. Now I’m an alpha ghost
So typical Berlin: a guy who says it's his hometown, but can't speak German :-D
:-D
Berlin is not so attractive to visit unfortunately
Neukölln and Wedding are dangerous area to live, and most of the time your don’t hear German speaking around, and when moving around you might feel you are not in Germany!
Of course it's dangerous, if you are a fucking racist. Never have I felt more safe and at home, than in Neukölln.
Where exactly in wedding?
This is so not true. I lived in both neighborhoods. And they are not dangerous by any means. Yes you do hear a lot of different languages but that’s because of all the hipsters moving there.
@@convince77 only racist/islamophobic people find Wedding/Neukolln dangerous.
Bullshit comment.
Just be carefull of sticky German Goo Girls Gx3👀
