Thankyou for giving a french perspective on Paris culture. Your very warm and welcoming with your commentary and it is much appreciatedl Greetings from the Uk.
Back again to say I stayed in Belleville a few weeks ago based on Lucile’s recommendation and it exceeded my expectations. And don’t let the distance from the center of town fool you, it was very easy to get around from there.
My pleasure! For anyone reading, I stayed at Novotel Paris 20 Belleville, one of the pricier options in the area. I was only planning on staying a few days but got sick and had to stay awhile longer. There are a few nice boutique hotels in the area and small independent places that I'd likely stay if I was to return and would probably save a bit of money. Overall while researching I found the area pretty cost effective overall. Especially the food, so many tasty North African places that were fast and affordable, open all day and night.
@@LucileHR Im stayed in Neuilly Sur Seine in an Airbnb last time I was in Paris a couple of months ago visiting from my home town of Leeds, I know Neuilly isnt technically in Paris and is its own municipality it did feel like part of the city, I would be interested to get your take on the area, I personally thought it was a beautiful neighbourhood with beautiful architecture and nice resturants, however the people there seemed a bit snobbish if Im honest, I was told that Neuilly is the wealthiest district in France so this may have soemthing to do with it as I found Belleville far friendlier when I stayed there.
@@rjflores438 French born and raised here. Born in Paris. Moved to Montreal years ago but Yes, it has 💯 something to do with it 😂 Sure it’s upscale (to say the least) but the atmosphere: yuk !
I went to Batignolles this afternoon. Got a baguette and sat in the park. Then an old lady who loves birds so much asked me to “donnez un petit service”, followed by an hour long chat about birds, she gestured so much almost as if she was dancing, in order to make sure I understood everything. It was so nice and refreshing after doing all the touristy stuff and having experienced some Parisien stereotypes. People actually gave way when I tried to cross the pedestrian crossings there. It reminded me of the Fitzroy Brunswick area in my city Melbourne, Australia, a really good community feel.
Thanks to a French friend’s recommendation, we stay at a wonderful, small, family run two star hotel in the 5th. Guests are mostly French people visiting Paris. We are usually the only Americans and we do speak some French. Our room is spacious with a balcony, which is great for an afternoon glass of wine or morning coffee. The staff is friendly and greet us warmly on our return visits. Do some research, but don’t shy away from 2 star hotels. Be adventurous!
Thank you so much for your recommendation for staying in Bellville and Les Batignolles. Stayed in Bellville one day and really enjoyed it. On way back from Spain, stayed in Les Batignolles 3 days. It was wonderful. One part you did not mention was the stretch on Rue de Rome where all of the musical instruments are sold and repaired along with sheet music, etc. We do not have the quaint shops in the US. It was lightly raining and walking by those stores - especially since my wife plays the cello, was unique and special. The stores then turned to custom suit shops for men and then women's apparel until we reached a beret store. Ended the adventure with a magical dinner at a restaurant on Rue de Batignolles. They let us sit upstairs in their eclectic, magical dining area that was actually not open, but they knew how much it meant to us. You nailed it with that recommendation. Thank you.
Since you never stop hyping up the Batignolles (despite my incessant appeals for keeping this treasure hidden from the masses 😅😅), on the top of all amazing French food options, I got a some recommendations of nice spots for international eating, both for you and anyone visiting: - Cafuné ( 61 Rue des Batignolles) : A cute and cozy Brazilian cafe, ran by my good friend Taciana(you can tell her Vitor and Talita sent you - you wont get any discount, but we might😂😂). You really shroud try the cheese bread(pão de queijo) and the tapioca crepe. - La Monella( 2 Rue Lemercier): AUTHENTIC Neapolitan style pizza! Doesn’t get any better outside Italy, worthy of a visit! They even got the traditional Neapolitan wood fire oven. - Pastelaria Belem (47 Rue Boursaut): Really nice Portuguese bakery, but they also got lunch options such as cod fish(bacalhau), grilled chorizo and many sandwiches and finger foods. The decorations, with the withe and blue ceramic tiles really reminds Portugal - MELT Batignolles (83 Rue Legendre): American style barbecue. Even if you don’t want to eat there, come for the smell😅😅😅 its awesome
When I was 15 I attended a summer school at Lycée Chaptal, Boulevard des Batignolles and I totally loved it! That was a very long time ago and I’m glad to see it’s not changed much in all that time ❤️. My experience there just solidified my love of France, French culture, French literature and, of course the French!!!! So much so that I spent a lot of my life working and holidaying in all parts of France and have spent the last 22 years living happily in Brittany amongst a beautiful community of Bretons and French 🇫🇷🏴🇫🇷
We visited Paris and stayed in both the Marais and Batignolles neighborhood. While the Marais was fun and close to so many things, the Batignolles neighborhood was wonderful. It is a beautiful neighborhood without many tourists. We stumbled across a lovely outdoor market on a Sunday afternoon attended by many locals. We stayed at the Hotel Zoku and were very close to a Metro stop with easy access to the rest of Paris. Thanks so much for the recommendation.
Considering this video is about staying in Paris, if you plan to live in Paris but don't like it being too busy. The most family child friendly place is Boulogne Billancourt. Very nice schools, streets, safety, green areas (Hello bois de boulogne, albert kahn, rothschild) having 2 metro's 9 and 10. It's also walking distance to many famous places. Rolland Garros and Parc de Prince, i.ei. It is absolutely the perfect place to live with a family. It's well composed with expats and locals, I love it!
Three weeks ago we stayed in the 11th near Saint Ambroise church (Rue du Chemin Vert). We LOVED IT! We felt like we were able to experience life in the city without the tourist issues. Of course we went to the tourist places, but it was great to return to a quiet neighborhood at the end of the day!
My husband and I stayed in an apartment in the Marais and couldn’t have imagined a better location for our short but wonderful time in the most beautiful city in the world.
Lucile, I just stubbled onto your video. It has been a long time since I have been in Paris. It was a delight to see a bit of Paris again. My, how things have changed. My wife and I were in Paris on our honeymoon in 1976. By accident we stayed in the South Pigalle area. You are right. It wasn't a very comfortable place for us. We found ourselves back in Paris in 1985. The hotel we thought we had reservations at was closed for renovations when we arrived. Again, somewhat by accident, we found a room at the bottom left corner of the square you drew in the Latin Quarter. But at that time it was a quiet out of the way area. It was wonderful. One thing hasn't changed, staying in the outskirts of Paris. In 1995 our travel plans changed and we found ourselves trying to book a room at the last minute in July. The closest we could find was not even on the outskirts. We were way out in Chantilly. None of our plans for visiting Paris worked out the way we had planned but we had a great time anyway. I love Paris. Thank you for your video.
You always make me feel like I am on a professional tour around Paris, showing well me all the personal information I need to have a fun safe time! Thank you.
Hi Lucille. I am shocked with 2 things. 1st that you do not like Republique! It’s my fav place to stay in Paris. If there are protest, just walk up or down and reach another station in 5mins. The neighbourhood vibes are so good but it’s being gentrified, several of my fav neighbourhood restaurants are replaced with fancy wine bars. 2nd-Belleville. No one had ever recommended Belleville and I am so glad you did. I love that there are so little tourist there and the cultures and the vibrant areas. I love it!
I'm going to Paris for the 2nd time in a couple months. I found the French people to be so kind and friendly, even though mon français est vraiment mauvais LOL. I'm taking the Euro Star from London and you are right, that train station has some dodgy people about.
I just got back from Paris and my studio apartment was on Rue St Ouen. I LOVED Batignolle. It was so nice to get away from tourists and just sit in a cafe (L'Endroit!) and people watch. And the little shops were fantastic.
Bonjour, Lucile. My wife and I took your advice and stayed at Batignolles for a week this month. Loved the neighborhood - the residential feel, boulangeries and small shops. Access to the Metro and the Bus was so easy. We are glad we found your video and took your advice. We wondered if we would run into you!! That did not happen! Thanks for all the videos and the work you put into making them relevant, useful and fun. Merci Beaucouop.
I went to Paris the summer 2023 and stayed in the Trocadero area just off of Av Kleber. Perfect place to stay and within walking distance to most everything. I am planning to return summer 2025.
These videos of yours are very compelling for me. I have never been to France, but my wife has. She is part French and is really into that side of her family. What's remarkable is how all of your videos seem to focus on food. Even your recommendations as on where to live seem to involve food. This is very funny to me as it is so typical of my wife as she too relates everything back to food.
I can endorse two of your opinions from personal experience. Across from the Gare du Nord (long ago) I experienced my only serious attempted mugging in a lot of travel to a lot of countries. And in recent times I have stayed in the north Marais on three separate occasions and really enjoyed the neighbourhood and how central it is.
I actually loved staying at the "outskirts" of paris. it felt like city , with a bus every 10 minutes to a big metro and rer station. I prefered the cheaper price and bigger hotel to the cramped expensive inner city experience (or even more expensive luxurious experience) and it was well worth the 30 min travel time. I looked for hotels and in my price range it was either a 10 m² horrorchamber in the inner city or a 25 m² hotel with a kitchenette and even a dishwasher and a sofa.
I'm an American whose been living in France for a long time. I've lived in the Batignolles for 24 years now. I love our neighborhood and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I love your videos too. Keep up the great work Lucille.
You got a new follower, Lucille! I've been to Paris few years ago and we didn't do proper research. We stayed at Le Marais and I liked it. Close to a lot of places and stations too :) Can't wait to be back this summer!
Lucile…. This was a really nice inventory of Paris neighborhoods. Since I’ve had family in France, I never get to play around in Paris, anymore. But it was nice to hear you talk about some of my old haunts. Whenever I was “staying in Paris” I never stayed in Paris unless it was in some cellar in Le Quartier Latin after the Metro had closed for the night. I always stayed in Maisons-Laffitte via Gare St. Lazare. But it has been a good forty years since I’ve been on my own in Paris and I’m aware that much has changed.
Belleville! I lived there for a year in the cheapest studio I could find in all of Paris. But I had that view from my bed, and from the balcony I could even see Montmatre. Loved the diversity in that area.
You are right about les Batignolles, I have friends who have lived rue Nollet for about 30 years now and I love the area when I come to visit. In fact for the Pentecôte I will be around, looking forward to the market & apéro in The Lush.
Any chance to see something similar of Toulouse (where to stay, local recommendations, etc.)? :) We're visiting Paris and Toulouse in October and getting inspired by your videos. Thanks a lot, Lucille.
I would balance the Gare du Nord / Gare de l’Est comment a bit more for a few reasons. First, if you’re into South Indian cuisine, some of the very best restaurants are right next to Gare du Nord (thinking of Saravanaa Bhavan or Krishna Bhavan), as well as some of the best "cash & carry" supermarkets. Second, rue de Dunkerque, ie the main street connecting both stations has seen some cool redevelopment lately, with a cute suspended garden, and one of my most recommended cafe/restaurant in the area, ie the Café les deux gares, which imho has the best crème brûlée of all Paris (with vin jaune from Jura and hazelnuts from Piemont). There are other cool things in that neighborhood, such as the Marché Saint-Quentin, or pretty chill restaurants like Mamagoto, Chez Marius or even Hotel grand amour. The area to be avoided is really the street right in front of Gare du Nord, which has become a mess more so because of the insane taxi/Uber car trafic than its constant dodgy people. The street in front of Gare de l’Est is not as dodgy but a bit sad, it is one of the largest night bus hub of Paris, and so this is where you get to see the really poor working class going home every day, the people who struggle and who we so often do not even notice in our daily lives enjoying the perks of a wealthy city.
Thank you for this comment! I am going to Paris tomorrow and staying in a hotel close to both stations and I am really not worried at all for my safety. It really is a convenient neighbourhood especially if you arrive late at night and since most tourists want to see everything in Paris, including me, I doubt I‘ll be bothered much by my surroundings in the short time spent at that hotel. Maybe I am a bit less sensitive to areas with big train stations because I live in a German city that is mostly known for having the worst main station in the country…
@LucileHR - I can't believe it took me this long to find your channel. Such excellent content! I agree with your Paris neighborhood insights in this video. We're going to make it a point on this year's trip to explore south Pigalle a bit more. When we lived in Paris in the 80s and early 90s it was quite seedy, and we've found it hard to shake that outdated image. We did have a nice walk last year along the rue des Martyrs and found it lovely (I think that's in the part of Pigalle to which you refer?). I'll keep watching your other videos; now you can expect one more American stranger to say "hi" to you in the street!!
I visited in the early 2000s and remember it had a bad reputation as well! I know many neighborhood in NY have changed over the years (lived there in early 2000s for twelve years).
Stayed in Paris on 4 occasions from Australia over several years and agree Republic has its problems. Our last visit was in Saint Paul on Rue Saint Paul and recommended it. Centrally located but away from tourist crowds and with a real local character.
The biggest mistake I made visiting Paris, which I regret to this day, was taking my family on the Metro to our hotel instead of taking the taxi. The hotel was fine and the neighbourhood not too bad if uninteresting in itself, but the Metro ride including one change went through some dirty stations smelling of urine. This made a terrible and lasting first impression on my children who will never want to visit Paris again, which makes me sad as I absolutely adore Paris.
The smell of urine is in many places of Paris. For me personally, the Jardin deLuxembourg's bathrooms was the bad memory. You could smell them many feet away in the park. I'm definitely going in the winter next time 😂
Bonjour Lucile! I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m taking a solo trip to Paris soon and was so overwhelmed! Following your advice, I have booked a hotel in the Batignolles neighbourhood and now I’m simply going to follow the rest of your recommendations for cafés and parks. Thank you so very much! ❤
as as European I can confirm.. in every city areas around train stations, and people too, are most shady. also lot of private scam taxi's there with insane prices that rob tourists blind but are legal because they are private contractors and as such have the right to set any price for their service they want as long as they display the price. the problem is most tourists dont ask the price in advance or settle for very intentionally vague answers than get shocked when they reach destinations and get hit by the bill.
I lived in Lamark for 10 years and loved it. Moved a few years ago to Chantilly, the TER is 25min to Paris and the hotels and restaurants are a 1/2 of the price. Its a great alternative if you want to day hop to Paris but also have some village charm.
Thank you Lucille! Currently trying to plan another trip to Paris.. ill definitely looking in to the neighborhoods u recommended!! Appreciate all of your local input!
Thanks Lucile! This is very helpful as I'm never quite sure where to stay or visit when I'm in Paris. I plan to come again in December for the opening of Notre Dame so you've given me some good ideas.
Just went to Artisan de la Truffe for dinner and it was delicious! The chef also answered all of my questions about all things truffle including the different types of truffles. I will definitely try your other recommendations. Merci beaucoup!
Great video thank you! I’ve been looking for areas to stay and it’s always the same places. I wanted to find out specifics and you summed it up perfectly. Thank you!
Your suggestions are excellent. I think the only place that has more protests in Paris is down the Faubourg St. Antoine. That's where our apartment is (in the 11eme) and every time we go there we take bets on how many protests will go by. Some are big, and some are quite small. All are accompanied by the French police. It is also the traditional, historic, place to protest, even before the storming of the Bastille. I also don't think there are any truly unsafe neighborhoods in Paris. None that I have found. I invited a friend to fulfill her dream and come to Paris with me in 2022. Her husband was beside himself with worry. He told me to please call him if we had any trouble (which we never do). She worried about dressing appropriately in spite of me telling her it is like any other big city and no one cares what she is wearing. About half-way through our visit she finally got it. Paris is just fabulous. I also avoid the area around the Champs Elysee. It is too touristy, and frankly the most boring (relatively speaking of course) part of Paris.
When it comes to staying near a train station I find that the area near the Montparnasse station isn't too bad if you are a few blocks from the station itself. Last time I stayed in the 15th west of the station and south of Les Invalides near the Voluntaires metro stop and it was convenient without being either too touristy or unsafe. Next time I will be sure to try your recommendations though as I like to stay in a different part of the city each trip (the previous time we stayed near the Canal Saint-Martin in the area you recommend).
I've stayed in various parts of Paris and environs and my least favorite is probably right next to Gare du Nord. Not much charm, feels a bit sketchy at night and quite noisy. But it is convenient if your train arrives late or leaves very early in the morning. I only stayed there because I missed a connection for an overnight train to Amsterdam close to midnight and didn't feel like schlepping all over Paris for just the one night. I've also stayed outside the Peripherique, with friends, in a cookie cutter apartment block. Not much to recommend it but when you're staying with friends you don't really have much choice. It did though give me a feel for how lower income and working class Parisians who can't afford to live in Paris proper live. I've actually stayed in the Gare du Nord area, but around a 10 minute walk away, on a nice and quiet side street that could have been anywhere in Paris. It was far enough away that it didn't feel at all seedy and we rather enjoyed our stay there, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops nearby. Same for the Arc de Triomphe area, also around a 10 minute walk that was sufficiently far from the touristy parts and fairly quiet. Lastly I've also stayed with a friend in the 13th Arrondissement, not far from the Place d'Italie. Not necessarily the most exciting place to stay but it's close enough to the Sorbonne, Jardin des Plantes, Seine and Bibliotheque National (which made it a good place to go running) to more than make up for it, and there was a nice farmer's market held several days a week. It also had a certain unpretentious "real Paris" vibe to it. Really almost any part of Paris will do for a short stay, especially if you're on a budget. The Metro and bus system is excellent and you're not that far from the sights and interesting neighborhoods. And agreed that staying far outside Paris to save money on lodging is a bad idea, unless you have an early flight and want to be close to the airport, or are only there for a day or two and are flying in and/or out. Long commute and you miss that Parisian vibe.
I stayed in Belleville the one time I went to Paris. I didn’t know ow much about the neighborhoods but the reviews of the apartment were good. Looks indeed a bit run down but it was safe with nice little shops and restaurants and the metro station was around the corner and so it was easy to get to the center.
Hi Lucille! I hope that you and Bobby are enjoying your spring time. Don't work too hard! I so enjoy your tips to preferred places in Paris! Locals are the best at what's best. I love your informative videos and kind nature. You give great advice. ❤ If I ever get the chance to come to Paris with my folks...i'd love the chance to meet you. I've watched your videos for a long time.. you travel to amazing places.. Do you have any destinations still that you'd like to travel to? Or dream destinations? Safe travels to you. Hope your weather is good.
Hi Lucile, I loved your comment about the comparison to ratatouille.(too Funny) I always look forward to your videos and hope to be back in Paris soon to try out all your wonderful recommendations & suggestions. Thanks for all your tips and great smile.
You mean St. Germain (without the e), St Germain des Prés. ... I also lived there and really liked it. Very beautiful, very elegant, but not the best for a young person
0:24 Montmartre late at night "when there's noone there" sounds like a good plan to get mugged 🤔 6:05 Staying in Le Marais... nice area indeed, but rooms there may be more costly than the above-mentioned mugging
Hi Lucile I have enjoyed watching your videos! My husband and I are taking a trip to Paris in January for my birthday.....is this a good time to go? Also having a hard time deciding where to stay we have narrowed it down to Bonsoir Madame or Hotel Dame des Arts. Are these areas good? Do you know these hotels?
Belleville to me is like where I live in Dublin - Phibsboro. Rough around the edges but beautiful and full of great people. First time I could see myself living in Paris after staying central so many times.
I'd like to point out, however, that when you visit Paris, you'll probably be doing a lot of walking and passing through all the neighborhoods mentioned in this video, including neighborhoods that "should be avoided", often by just a few dozen meters. You should know that none of them are dangerous, some are less interesting than others of course, and that some areas that are very touristy are worth seeing, but perhaps at different times like Montmartre.
Thank you for sharing so much great information!! I lived there a loooong time ago when I was 18, for 2 years, but it has changed so much that the last time I visited I didn’t enjoy it that much because of all the tourists-- anyway thank you for the tips.
I really appreciate this video. My gal and I are going to visit with my mother this coming October for 6 days. We’re in our 50’s. She’s 84. Could you recommend which section would be best for our age group? We don’t need shopping. Just good food, wine, cheese and quiet atmosphere. Thanks.
I just returned to the states from Paris (May 10). I stayed in at an Airbnb in North Montmartre, near Jules Joffrin Metro. Not touristy at all, it was a very local vibe.
Bonjour @LucileHR is Rue Girardon a good place to get an Airbnb? You mention in your video to stay around the Lamarck metro station when you highlighted it... this street is somewhat below that area.. it's actually the street where Le Moulin de la Gallette is. Merci.. restaurant
Heyy, Thanks for recommending. Little odd question but can you recommend some nice hostels? I am travelling on budget and hostels seems to quite far like Jo&Joe Paris
7:30 "Place NOT to stay: anywhere outside Paris"😂 Nicely said) I have lived and studied as a student for more than 3 years on the outskirts of Palaiseau and that made me hate Paris a lot) especially during internships, when I tried to keep my place in a dormitory and was travelling all working days more than 3 hours per day on RER B 😅 And you know how unstabily rer works sometimes...and your 1h40min of a route magically turn into 2h30+ with no air conditioning and fully packed carriages...yep, do not stay there if you want to fall in love with Paris)
Thanks Lucile for sharing the content! I'm traveling with my teenage boys and wife the first week of July and staying at Mercure Paris Vaugirard Porte De Versailles. Options for hotels were limited do to what I can assume are the Olympics? Anyways, are there any restaurants in the area that you would recommend that offers traditional french cuisine at an affordable price? Also, any word on how that area is at night? Thanks again!
Yessss!!! Big shout out to Batignolles! I used to go there as a teenager in the 90s and 00s (probably before you were born!) and it always struck me as the real Paris with easy access to the centre and all the sights, it was so cheap to stay there too still love the place ❤❤❤
@Lulu-kt6gr a hotel, it was away from Place de Clichy metro but on a busy road near Square des Batignolles, i think the last owner was American it was called Hotel des Batignolles (very noisy! But i loved it)
Thanks so much for making this video! My husband and I are coming in September and we’re staying in Belleville. Well it’s like right on the edge, like a block on the outside, not even really a whole block. I hope that is still good! I really appreciate your recommendations. Which park are you wandering in Batignolles?
New subscriber here and I feel the urge to add to the République area point: if you are not French, do not I repeat do not underestimate the penchant of French people to go and protest. So if you’re thinking well, what’s the odds that there will be a protest going on there right the week where I’m staying in Paris? Trust me, the probability is high. It’s like their hobby. 🎉
Bonjour et merci beaucoup de l"Ecosse. Love your vlogs and tips for visiting Paris ... just subscribed and look forward to seeing your beautiful city in the near future. Très apprécié.
Excellent video Lucile! Thanks for the insightful information. I'm planning a trip for Christmas 2024/New Year 2025 for about 8 days and this gives me a great starting point in terms of must see, and places to stay, versus places to avoid. Right now Im leaning towards a hotel in the 6th arrondissement, but have not booked anything yet.
Bonsoir Lucile ! I just came across your channel (actually via a video by Théo in Paris). I see we have a lot in common with our love of Paris, and presenting Paris to visitors (and that you've been doing really well with TH-cam for quite a while now). Good videos on your channel, a lot of interesting stuff!
I will be in Paris my first time mid August! It will only be for 24 hours. What do you suggest I do in that amount of time to get the full experience? 😊
Paris really does have alot to it rather then just one big place . Thanks foe your info and knowledge and fun Lucille I never get bored. You just make my day when I see you 👀 I bet tou would be the best mom 👩 ever ! Know dought in my mind ! Always a pleasure Lucille love ❤️ you buddy your always in my heart ❤️ along with sara God bless you jamie 😊
Once we stayed at an inexpensive hotel by St Pauls - it was ok but very noisy at night. Most of the time we stay at one of the hotels on Ile Saint-Louis and they are fairly noise free except for the occasional drunk with a trumpet. We also rented an apartment on the Rue Bayard that was very nice.
I was in Paris last week and stayed close to Odeon and I love that area. I lived in Paris for a few years when I was elementary school back in the 80s in the Boujee 16th by Rue de Passy but that area is a bit too quiet for a visit so I really like central Odéon/Mabillon area
Yes, Odeon, Marbillon is great, also all the small galleries, it is very posh however, you see now Happy hour beer, so normal Parisians don't go there ;)
This is great information. Thanks. I'll be there in November and I haven't picked a spot yet. My wife will be at a conference, so I'm going to be mostly alone for a week, and want to make sure I'm somewhere that's nice to walk around, sit at a café or in a park, and relax. I've only been to Paris once before, back around Christmas of 2019, and we stayed a couple blocks from the Musée de la Vie romantique, though I don't think I ever even saw it. We definitely didn't visit. I liked the area, but I think my wife wants to stay on the other side of the Seine this time, just to get a different experience with the city. I've taken notes.
Great tips and funny enough my wife and I just got married 2 weeks ago and heading for our honeymoon and staying in.........Batignolles. Hope we run into you and any links to the best spots to visit there would be appreciated. We have an AirBnB there and love walking and exploring so happy we choose that spot. Keep up the great videos and will search out more from your channel.
I am going in December with my mom. Is our second time, we just want to eat, drink and have nice views. She loves the bohemian, village vibes. Where do you recommend?
This was a very nice list. Chapeau. Personally I have lived in Paris as a student in the 6th - Notre Dame des Champs. Super elegant and close to my university and the lively Marbillon area. But especially in terms of food, it was way too upscale for me. There you do not find any happy hour beer - sounds stupid but a big criteria for socializing. Now I have been to Paris during the whole Olympics and Paralympics time, criss-crossing the city with my bike. This way you get to know to know a lot of areas. I see the general guideline of the video was to exclude quartiers that are too: - rich and boring (16 th, lower part of 17th, parts of 8th, 7th, part of 6th) - touristy (1, 2, Marais 4, part of 5th, 6th, 7th, part of 9th) - "too" diverse, we love diversity but not too much of it ;), all the stuff in the north, Chapelle, Magenta, Stalingrad St. Ouen, ... - maybe "too youthful", like only for young people: bastille, nations, gare de lyon So you have Batignolles, North Marais, North Montmatre, ... excellent choices. I think the Canal St. Martin is only for people who really want to have this diverse rebellious crowd. Too well known already, too much party, and too alternative The south is not so well covered ... Montparnasse is worth checking out and I was pleasantly surprised by Beaugrenelle, can be very good area for work reasons.
Hello. I've just booked Hotel Du Printemps on Boulevard de Picpus in 12. District because of good reviews, good price and close metro and RER stations. Is this area safe in the evenings?
Thanks for the great video! What do you think about La Villette area? Do you think it is similar to Stalingrad? I stayed around La Villette last year, and it looked gentrified, but vibrant. Lots of restaurants and cafés around the canal! I thought it was interesting, but it did have that big city vibe you talked about when referring to Stalingrad. I was lucky to be very close to a metro station.
The main issue that’s been plaguing Stalingrad really is drugs, well actually, crack - and I say this as a resident of the area. Besides that, all of the “Canal de l’Ourcq" area, which connects Stalingrad to La Villette, is lovely and praised by locals. You have two cool movie theaters (MK2), people playing pétanque alongside the canal, nice cafés like the Atalante, Paname Brewery Company or Pavillon des canaux). Along line 7 sits one of the busiest jazz venue in Paris these days, ie La Gare, which is a really cool place. As for La Villette, it’s a really big area so it kind of depends which side you are referring to. The side that’s on Line 5 has my personal preference: it accesses the Philharmonie de Paris (do check it out, it’s an amazing music venue with tickets more affordable than Opera de Paris) and the CNSM, one of the top music school in France, so you get to see quite a lot of musicians around, and it connects to the Danube/Butte Chaumont area, hands down my favourite neighborhood of Paris. The other side on line 7 is not so bad, but up north is La Courneuve/Aubervilliers, and though there are some decent nightclubs under or next to the périphérique, you definitely do not want to wander in the neighborhood without knowing where you’re going.

Thankyou for giving a french perspective on Paris culture. Your very warm and welcoming with your commentary and it is much appreciatedl Greetings from the Uk.
Nice place,Thank you very much!
Back again to say I stayed in Belleville a few weeks ago based on Lucile’s recommendation and it exceeded my expectations. And don’t let the distance from the center of town fool you, it was very easy to get around from there.
Great to hear from you again!! For anyone reading this, @MrTimFilms is one of the people I quoted in the part about Belleville :)
I love Belleville, and the area immediately west, as the street are is so cool.
@@rjflores438 French born and raised here. Born in Paris. Moved to Montreal years ago but Yes, it has 💯 something to do with it 😂
Sure it’s upscale (to say the least) but the atmosphere: yuk !
Could i please ask what this phrases's intention there is? Is it asking for money or ?
Thanks to a French friend’s recommendation, we stay at a wonderful, small, family run two star hotel in the 5th. Guests are mostly French people visiting Paris. We are usually the only Americans and we do speak some French. Our room is spacious with a balcony, which is great for an afternoon glass of wine or morning coffee. The staff is friendly and greet us warmly on our return visits. Do some research, but don’t shy away from 2 star hotels. Be adventurous!
I would love the name please if possible, I will be there later this month 😊
I can send you my email if you could share name of hotel?
@Thierry-13k
Could you please share the hotel’s name? Thanks very much!
So interesting that areas in Paris can vary so much in just a 5 minute walking distance!
Thank you.
Since you never stop hyping up the Batignolles (despite my incessant appeals for keeping this treasure hidden from the masses 😅😅), on the top of all amazing French food options, I got a some recommendations of nice spots for international eating, both for you and anyone visiting:
- Cafuné ( 61 Rue des Batignolles) : A cute and cozy Brazilian cafe, ran by my good friend Taciana(you can tell her Vitor and Talita sent you - you wont get any discount, but we might😂😂).
The decorations, with the withe and blue ceramic tiles really reminds Portugal
- MELT Batignolles (83 Rue Legendre): American style barbecue.
I'm glad you made the move!
BEST CONTENT ON PARIS SO FAR!!! keep the vids coming :) would love one on public transport local tips covering metro, buses, trams and trains!
I live in the states and every time I watch your videos, it makes me want to visit Paris!
love reading this :)
You always make me feel like I am on a professional tour around Paris, showing well me all the personal information I need to have a fun safe time! Thank you.
Love Le Marais. Funnily enough, my wife stayed for two weeks in the apartments above Bobbies (before it was Bobbies). Perfect stay.
I’m going to Paris for the first time soon and will stay in that area too- glad to hear it
Hi, which hotel you stayed?
@priyankajain3190 villa des ambassador. Excellent place and service. Highly recommend
Sorry this happened to you at Gare du Nord but great to hear you had a great time in le Marais :)
Hi, Im going there this week can you share the hotel name please?
I'm an American whose been living in France for a long time. I've lived in the Batignolles for 24 years now. I love our neighborhood and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I love your videos too. Keep up the great work Lucille.
Hi, we going to be going to Paris in two weeks. Is Pote de clichy a safe metro? Is line 13 sketchy?
You can tell shes so nice and bright. What a lovely woman
You got a new follower, Lucille! I've been to Paris few years ago and we didn't do proper research. We stayed at Le Marais and I liked it. Close to a lot of places and stations too :) Can't wait to be back this summer!
Thank you Lucile. As a Parisian so in line with your selection on bad or good areas.
Have so much fun there and come say hi if you ever see me around :)
I always stayed in the Pigalle. Once I said, "J'ai oublie ma clé" when I forgot my key and the woman was so nice in helping me.
He
@LucileHR - I can't believe it took me this long to find your channel.
I'm definitely going in the winter next time 😂
Love your videos -- very happy to see that we both like Les Marais and 20e. It makes me feel like I am on the same page as a local.
Hi , please hotel ka naam aur review if you already went ?
as as European I can confirm.. in every city areas around train stations, and people too, are most shady. also lot of private scam taxi's there with insane prices that rob tourists blind but are legal because they are private contractors and as such have the right to set any price for their service they want as long as they display the price. the problem is most tourists dont ask the price in advance or settle for very intentionally vague answers than get shocked when they reach destinations and get hit by the bill.
So happy you loved it!
My wife and I just love Paris! Next time, we will be looking for you!
I really love Ratatouille, it's such a good movie, and the Epcot Paris area is so beautiful :)
Thank you so much for watching, I appreciate you!
Omg we stayed at Batignolles in 2018! We loved it 😍 gosh I miss France 🇫🇷
I feel at home always in St Germaine. It's close to all my favourite areas and so easy to get around. It's close to Latin Quarter but easy to avoid.
You mean St. Germain (without the e), St Germain des Prés. ... I also lived there and really liked it. Very beautiful, very elegant, but not the best for a young person
0:24 Montmartre late at night "when there's noone there" sounds like a good plan to get mugged 🤔
6:05 Staying in Le Marais... nice area indeed, but rooms there may be more costly than the above-mentioned mugging
It love that you stayed there, you had the perfect local experience :)
Bonjour @LucileHR is Rue Girardon a good place to get an Airbnb? You mention in your video to stay around the Lamarck metro station when you highlighted it... this street is somewhat below that area.. it's actually the street where Le Moulin de la Gallette is. Merci.. restaurant
Thank you for posting this! I'm traveling to Paris soon & this helps me narrow down which Arrondissement to stay in.
Heyy,
Thanks for recommending.
I find your guides the most helpful. Thank you.
A few years back, my wife and I stayed at a little hotel on a side street off Batignolles. We loved the area!
Batignolles is beautiful. Im up the street near Lamarck, but i bike down to Batignolles all the time. Will be moving soon, though.
Did you stay at a hotel or Air b&b please?
I have a video coming in June around the topic so I suggest you subscribe to the channel haha
In the meantime watch my 48 hours in Paris video :)
@@LucileHR subscribed! Can’t wait!
Lucile, your presentation and accent are first class. Nice short visit to Paris informative thanks. 🍷
Paris is so beautiful and there are many old buildings preserved in time.
Is the France oldest country in Europe?
I don't think so (I've read it was San Marino??), but there are very old buildings around here :)
Hi, I'm going to Paris in November! What do you think about the area near Alexander Dumas metro? Thanks for all the info!🥰🥰
This was so helpful, thank you.
This is very helpful - thank you so much ! Chinatown never disappoints 😅
Thank you for all the great information. ❤
Yes, Odeon, Marbillon is great, also all the small galleries, it is very posh however, you see now Happy hour beer, so normal Parisians don't go there ;)
Thank you for your videos, going for Christmas🎄 and will be staying in Batignolles...see you around 👋
I've been planning a trip to Paris and your video is really helpul for me because I've looking a good location to stay.
Lucile has to get her monument in Belleville for what she does for that neighbourhood
looool love that!!
Had lunch at Marche des Enfants Rouge on our last trip. Now I'm hungry again and want to go back.
Excellent video, your content is very informative and insightful!
Awesome content, thanks Lucile!
I am going in December with my mom. Is our second time, we just want to eat, drink and have nice views. She loves the bohemian, village vibes. Where do you recommend?
I stayed a few steps from the Lamarck Caulaincort station LOVED IT!!❤😊
This was a very nice list.
I see the general guideline of the video was to exclude quartiers that are too:
- rich and boring (16 th, lower part of 17th, parts of 8th, 7th, part of 6th)
- touristy (1, 2, Marais 4, part of 5th, 6th, 7th, part of 9th)
- "too" diverse, we love diversity but not too much of it ;), all the stuff in the north, Chapelle, Magenta, Stalingrad St. Ouen, ...
- maybe "too youthful", like only for young people: bastille, nations, gare de lyon
So you have Batignolles, North Marais, North Montmatre, ... excellent choices.
I think the Canal St. Martin is only for people who really want to have this diverse rebellious crowd. Too well known already, too much party, and too alternative
The south is not so well covered ...
Bravo Lucile ! Belle vidéo ❤
Merciii :)
❤❤❤❤
Re 1:25. You are so right. I had awful food there. Going back to South Pigalle for another attempt.
