2024 update for everone watching this: - the airport Berlin-Schönefeld (SXF) doesn't exist any longer, it has been integrated into the BER airport as Terminal 5, which currently is not in use - please pay attention to the point about entering a vehicle and let the exiting people out first. there is already enough pepople ( not that many, but enough to notice at least) who try to almost tackle their way in as soon as the doors open, which is fairly annoying - showing the ticket to the bus driver is not mandatory any longer, so as long as you have a valid ticket, just hop on - if a bus or a tram is really crowded so getting to any but the front door seems like a hustle, it is usually okay to exit via the front door besides that; man, that was probably the best video about our public transportation system i've ever watched. really well done. i am really happy the city grew on you so much. have a good one :>
Your video helped me a lot when I was in Berlin last year. I was researching on public transport in every European country that I was planning on visiting, and your video explaining Berlin public transport was exactly what I wanted. I would be lost for sure if I didn't watch your video. Thank you so much
This video is the most organized and informative one. I'm traveling Berlin for the first time, and I'm pretty confident in using public transport there now. Thank you for making such amazing video. Keep up the good work. 👍
I am a German myself and live in Berlin. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed watching this video because I'm a public transport fan. The video was very well done and the information was correct. I think this video is a great help for Berlin tourists. This video is very nice. Greetings from Berlin
Thank you. This was helpful. One note I would like to add for tourists is, if you have a validated German rail card, Interrail or Eurail train pass for the duration of your visit to Berlin, the S-Bahn, RE, RB, ICE, EC and EC trains are all covered by the passes. The U-bahn trains, buses, trams and ferries are NOT covered by rail passes. In fact the train rule applies to all of German cities with S-Bahn services.
Good explanation of using the tickets. I recommend tourist which arrive from BER and stay for couples of days AB ticket wih an extention fare. I've been working in customer service for the Berliner S Bahn since January 2024.

I can't believe how complex this ticket system is. In Sydney we simply tap on and off with a credit card. You don't need to worry about the distance or fare as it's automatically calculated.
Very interesting video! Just moved to Berlin a month ago so I already knew many of the things that you covered. However I wasn't aware that I should show my ticket to the bus driver since at least from my experience nobody does that with double-deckers. Also as a student I thankfully get to travel for free as long as I have my student card with me. Anyway good job and keep the work up!
Thanks so much. Yes nobody really does it, and covid has made it slightly worse because I think sometimes the driver's entrance is even blocked by a soft plastic divider when covid cases are higher. These days are crazy!

@@ExpatCaptures And also sometimes you don´t stamp/validate your ticket because it is valid from the moment you purchase it from the machine in some other regional transport systems.

Since the hotel check in opposite the airport is only much later in the afternoon, i was thinking of going for a train ride and walk a little. This is my first overseas trip anyway. I am open for suggestions as long as i am back at the airport hotel by 4pm. Is there a scenic route train ride? I am a little confused about the AB C zone you had mentioned in your video. Thanks Tim! I don't think there's a difference if you're moving here. For the Eco monthly tickets you can also pay yearly, so it's just a matter of personal preference really.
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful, and it even made me chuckle a few times. I do have a question - BVG offers an extension card for zone C for a 24h ticket, that's 3,70 euro, but can I get a normal extension card that's 1,80 euro if i only need one trip (airport) with my 24 h ticket in AB zone?
Thank you! And yes correct, if you plan to only travel within zone AB+C one time and then only travel within A and B afterwards, then there's no need for you to get a 24-hour Zone C extension ticket. If you plan to travel frequently to and from Zone C within 24 hours, only then does it make sense to get the 24 hour one. Hope that helps :)

I'm coming to Berlin from the airport, I saw that the ABC ticket is extended to the airport. Is it worthy tu buy it or only AB ticket with airport-city center round trip apart? Thanks

I'm mapping my route from the airport and it keeps saying I should us IC to transfer to S-Bahn. Any insight is much appreciated!

With the welcome ticket and other multi day tickets you only validate them once, correct?
I'm going in two weeks to Berlin. I'm excited and nervous at the same time haha hope i wont get lost or anything :D Thanks for this vid!

Thanks really helpful
Thank you so much this was super helpful!
My pleasure Eva!!!
Thanks for the video! For some reason I had a lot of trouble on the S bahn. Those route placards seem to be hit or miss, and had a lot of trouble figuring out where it was actually going….even with Google maps (which ceases to work underground). Rode 3 wrong trains (apparently).
Yeh if it's not the Ring Bahn, then just look at the end station and see if the end station is reflected on Google Maps.
I'm coming to Berlin from the airport, I saw that the ABC ticket is extended to the airport. Is it worthy tu buy it or only AB ticket with airport-city center round trip apart?
Thanks
This was really helpful! Headed to Berlin soon and this definitely helped with navigation anxiety. Is there another way to get to AB without having to use IC from the airport? I'm mapping my route from the airport and it keeps saying I should us IC to transfer to S-Bahn. Any insight is much appreciated!
My pleasure! If the train number on Google Maps starts with RE or RB, you can use a normal ticket for them. You can also take the S-Bahn to get to AB or the city centre.
Omg this is so helpful video. I'm visiting Berlin on 13 th, but I don't know how to go to the Center from Central bus station 😥. Probably I won't have internet in new country
Good luck mate! From the central bus station, there is one U-Bahn station (U2) and one S-Bahn station nearby, so you should be able to get where you want from there :)
