The one thing I hate about One UI is the brightness toggle. If you want to turn auto brightness on or off you have to open the setting by hitting the three dots...which are at the brightest side of the bar. Get it off by 1mm and you end up with a solar flare to your eyes.
same here, so I setup a quick panel window with good lock one-hand operation. Whenever I swipe up (depending on your setting) from the side of the screen, it will display a small window, I just need to tap the brightness icon to disable and enable the auto brightness.
Admittedly, a solar flare would be better than it being on the dark side and basically having your phone pitch black
Yess
@@chrissolaceI remember having a seperate toggle on some random custom rom I used on my crappy old Motorola. And the toggle was movable. You could have it either on the left or right. Ah the good old days of custom roms I miss them so much.
Should have a separate toggle button
2:20 - No?
You press the text below the icon to get further detail popups, that also don't take you to the system settings, but still give you the functionality of a long press.
It's maybe a bit hidden, like how a longer long-press on a notification, and dragging it around, once you get to the "turn off notification/settings" options, will let you quickly open the notification-sending app in pop-up or split-screen view, without closing the app you're currently in.
Or how you can long-press the closing × in One Hand Operation+'s recent apps menu, to lock the app/keeping it from being cleared out of memory.
But I would've expected Android Authority to know this.
ah awesome, I din't know this, thanks!
That is right
I didn't know this either, thanks!
I had no idea about this - thank you!
True, I've been doing that for years.
I guess they don't actually use android as a daily driver 😅
I really love the reachability aspect of One UI 5, so I'm not looking forward to that change
The Bluetooth airplane mode feature has always been available on Samsung devices it's not something new
Wished they would give you options on what quick setting layout you want to pick between the old and new one
Honestly, I love the look of the new quick panel . Also the updates to lock screen editing.
2:19 in one UI 5.1 u dont have to long press the quick setting tile. U can still click on the text for the expansion of the options of the specific tile.
Never noticed that, thanks!
He's new
@@EllisKaiXOXO Just checked it, it was already there in 4.1
I really like the quick setting panel and I think it's fine as is, providing they offer a second swipe function to bring them down to the bottom for single hand use.
Maybe let us arrange the layout too, like replacing positions between the container and the device control!
The Bluetooth staying on and connected to the current devices when activating Airplane mode it's something that have been functioning for a while.
It's like that on my 5 years old OnePlus 6
@HAWXLEADER is it available on onu ui 5? How to enable it?
it's already enabled by default, when u have your Bluetooth activated and must be connected to a device, it won't turn off your Bluetooth@@althafali9744
Great to see you here Damien!
The presence of the camera widget and in that kind of format says to me that they will make it a live camera which would be an awesome function! So many apps toggle your camera out of standby anyway so it's not going to be a battery hogger.
I wonder if they're working on any battery life improvements. I'm liking the overall look of Android 14 as a whole in Ui 6
2:12 The fully expanded quick settings panel NEEDS to have the same amount of items in each row as the single row does, otherwise the rightmost item is not consistent...
I love the OneUI 5 in my S21 FE Exynos variant but the idle CPU usage I monitored is between 15-20% which "drains" battery alot. 🔋
If they can bring it down to 5-10% in idle mode then it would increase the battery life to a good extent.
Also, adding an "adaptive refresh rate" with stages of refresh as - 📱🤳
(idle without touch =30Hz, very few touches =60Hz, light scrolling & animations =90Hz, very fast touches and fast scrolling & multitasking= 120Hz) this would also increase battery life, heat management and user experience to a whole new level IMO.
Everything Is perfect about one ui 6 but my one huge problem is.... THE EMOJIS whay happened to them? They downgraded the emojis it was perfect the way they were.
Easy fix for dealing with the new Bluetooth and Wi-Fi buttons locations in the control panel, setup/use one-handed operation found in Goodlock. 😉
nice, all i need now is a volume slider in the quick panel without having to hit the physical button
I'm a sucker for a new system font.
As for the WiFi/BT toggles... Come on, man, tap the icon, not the text!
I love the new font and spacing it looks a lot more clean
This video is so well put out
Coming from an Iphone to a Galaxy device for the first time. This looks great and feels right at home.
thx for the info! btw, what screen protector r you using on your ultra ??
This might sound crazy, but I’m strongly considering an S23 Ultra because of this update and beta. I love my Pixel, but this looks hyper appealing.
Had my red s23 ultra 2 months and love it. The 's' pen is a great extra.
U dont need pen.its once or twice use thing. And camera is overrated. The zoom is fake and if u zoom other things its grainy. U r not loosing anything. I regret buying s23 ultra. I will go back to iphone which is small and powerful enough.
@@nugurimanideep The fact that u don't need the S pen doesn't mean that the others don't need it
I have an S23 Ultra and it's not worth the hype or the money.
Can't listen to HiFi music on that, don't do it.
I must say I hate half of these features, and I hope that the older options are still available. One UI 5.1 is extremely one-hand use friendly and it's a shame to see that go away. Not to mention I hate the font and spacing. I hope that enough people call Samsung out on this terrible decision so that they reconsider
Don’t update 😂😂
Just...don't update?
This phenomenon exists all the time, the thing is, people will simply get used to it. Before One UI, I bet you didn't even bother with the one-hand usage.
@Micheal_R My first phone had Android 9 with the first version on One UI, so I've always used my smartphone in the same way
Yeah, They will dig up Touch-wiz and say "You wanted old?".
btw, for One Ui 5.1 and older systems, you can press the text below the wifi icon to expand the panel, you odnt have to long press
Samsung be like: Here's One UI 6.0, now with more changes than my New Year's resolution list
Hey Damien!
Didn't know you were part of AA. Nice to hear you again!
That bluetooth earphones / headphones with airplane mode thing was on samsungs since like Galaxy S8 times
Shots with the phone as subject are too brightly lit (external source). You might want to reduce the amount of external lights, since phone can produce light of their own, It will look way more lively
What I would like to see is customized color palette instead of the pastel colors. Having red instead of pink or some other washed out color is my personal preference.
I LOVE your vids! I look forward to your new videos!
If you ever want to get rid of that extra phone, I'D LOVE IT TOO 😅
I have watched lots of video but you explained it very well
Love the aspect ratio in your vid
The OneUI 5 Quick Settings Panel was more practical for using the Ultra phones with one hand, seriously didn't like the new panel in UI 6. However the lock screen customisation look so cool, I really wanted to adjust the lock screen clock as per my wallpaper preference.
Just hope more features are coming in the next one ui 6 beta
agreed, I would like to see samsung add smart ai features like google does with pixel phones.
@a-terrible-fate532 That'd be cool
The pixel 8 pro does not show just squiggly lines anymore with Android 14. It shows a little animated progress lines for in-progress TH-cam videos.
Im excited for a bit of a refresh, I dont mind the changes and itll just be something you get used to. I def think itll have a bit more personality.
2:20 You actually can get the deeper settings on one ui 5 or older without a long press by tapping the letters under the toggle, not the icons themselves.
Likewise, you can tap the icon itself on one ui 6 to turn wifi on or off with one tap
I'm surprised he doesn't know that
so much for android authority
@@kittikorn6674I also checked other reviews and most reviewers don't know that one can click on the text under the toggles.
I’m liking the rigid and defined look of the quick settings control panel, very nice. For reachability's sake, this is a slight downgrade, but I still think its way more functional now
I'm not trying to be fully positive but the controll panel actually benefit me, I don't have enough space for my buttons because there's data and WiFi buttons taking space.
More functional? It is more cluttered and icons / texts have less space between them, given these new rounded boxes which consume quite a lot of space. The previous approach is clean, uncluttered and more relaxing.
@@marcrodet4900 Why these brands messes up already good things and make it worse? I didn't get the appeal for the new panel as OneUI revolves around one hand use and it clearly doesn't fit in the palette
I still hope they'll bring system-wide stop usb power deliver function
It would be absolutely invaluable for dex users or when you're simply at home.
2:51 how can OneUI 5 lift lock screen customization from iOS when iOS did it AFTER OneUI 5 came out?
When did you leave 9to5 Google?
The airplane mode with headphones already works for OneUI 5. I experienced it today with my Galaxy Fold 5
They need to bring back the audio/x-ms-wma music format back for native playback support
I think that if they would give an option to change the colors of the control panel to whatever color you choose would make it a lot cooler. Each panel you could customize to color you like. Also the icons on the control panel.
The airplane mode bluetooth feature isn't new I have on one ui 5
I think the notification panel, animation and lock screen should make it more beautiful, although it redesigns the notification panel, but... I think still need to improve the design... I'm really looking forward to this ui 6 version. I hope that it's not disappointed me...
I hopw someone knows this? Where do you get those Android figerines that were on the desk? Id love one for mine
I can't figure out what you talking about when holing the phones since I don't know one UI (no samsung phone yet). So I get very confused if you talking about the phone in the right or left hand..
U Didn't have to hold it you could just press the word of the setting and it took into deep changes quick
looks nice 👍
The BT functionality works this way (with Airplane mode) right now with OneUI 5.x. I don't think this is new for 6.0.
yep I thought the same too, it's definitely there on 5.x.x
I'm using an A7 Samsung tablet. All the new bells and whistles are great but they've screwed up a couple of basic options, there's now no way to resize the icons on home screen and my grid layout changed to something I don't like at all and there’s no option to go back! I realize this may seem nit picky but it doesn’t make sense to me.
I love the fact that the notifications aren't grouped together anymore, now I'll finally change from iOS. Those grouped emojis were so 2001
Hello, what's the clock widget he's using at min @0:50 for the phone on the right plzz? Thank you
Im so glad they are going towards a more pixel like software look.
Hope they will add volume slider.
Hey. What kind of glass did you use for the display?
Great content. How many bugs you have so far? For some reason, my lock screen pops up and then goes back to where I was.
i was hoping to see the 3d ish time like on the iphone on the lock screen but guess we'll see after OneUI 6
Is Bixby text call still limited to LTE/5g calls, or does it work with WiFi calling now? That's a frustration for me because I have far better WiFi signal than cell service in portions of my home, but I want to use this feature for unknown callers.
Is there anyway to change it back after it updates? My phone was sent to auto update and im not a fan of the changes.
Great to hear from Damien again. Had me worried. Awesome video as always!
i expect to have sattelite connectivity on my s23 ultra. because snapdragon 8 gen 2 and x70 modem totally capable of doing that
Yesssssss
these new features are something like we had with android kitkat when android was not limited so much for the developer community
If you use Google maps daily don't install it. There's a bug if you leave navigation and come back it's just a white screen. I've tried pretty everything, as far as troubleshooting
Can we please finally get a way to adjust the keyboard volume?
Does the dymanic theme actually work now? It's pointless to have quick toggles and accent colors not pick up a new color when the background changes...
7:30, Already have that feature in the current OneUI
Is there now an option to automatically disable work profile after certain time? One thing kids from pixel
There has to be seamless connectivity in between galaxy buds and galaxy phone like apple
Gonna miss quick toggle SIM switch for data, call, sms ❤
It was very useful when u r traveling and changing between different networks, u can switch sim instantly to whichever is given better internet speed.
actually Bluetooth remains active on airplane mode on oneui 5.1 too, it's nothing new
The colour of the video looks washed out😂
I don't think so.
@@random_person618On what device are you watching this? There are basically no contrast or colors whatsoever.
@@porvoonosho I'm watching this on a Samsung Galaxy device and I just realised what this person is talking about when I switched to the Natural color profile.
Samsung devices come shipped with a high contrast color profile (called "Vivid") by default.
@@random_person618 yea same with me....the vivid color profile worked well with this vid
perhaps it's the cinetone on Sony camera and he forgot to edit the colours ?
I'm not an expert btw 😅
Dayummm new font ROBOTO🎉🎉
How do you manage to get this download when its not available on samsung members yet?
They better return to the sound bar next to the brightness with the next one UI instead of that "sound assistant" gimmic.
Dialer Dilemma
Google Dialer or Samsung Dialer on Samsung phone?.? And why?.?
I hope that the public version of One UI 6 for the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be released soon, greetings from the south of Chile.
PS: At the end of the video I got a Samsung ad. 🤣
I think this is a step back in many ways
I'm honestly not sure if I like some of these changes. 1:09 - The music player looks like it is glitchy with the progress line going through the middle of the player. I'd probably accidentally click something else as I'm trying to skim through the song. 1:28 - The quick panel of One UI 5 is a lot cleaner without the border groupings. 2:27 - Similarly with the notifications, I think that the notifications look cleaner in One UI 5. 8:44 - Nice to see Google finally return to including an interactive easter egg.
On the lockscreen when media is playing and you have other notifications below it, does it still hide the media bar? Cause rn I can only back, play/pause or forward, and have to press the clock/time to get into the widget section OR swipe away all other notifications for the media bar to show so I can finally skip back/forward in my media. Or is there already a hotfix?
I got notified that it's available for my device after signing up for the beta but I haven't downloaded it yet. Is it still not possible to use Google wallet with beta?
I disabled updates on my S23U via adb commands in February. I don't like brute force updates.
so HOW LONG it release for my A series in Asia?🤔
8:58 Is that screen protection "glass" or "film"..?
What font is that ?
I don't like the spacing between notifications. I wouldn't mind if they were spaced out for different apps, but grouped together close for the same app, but this as it stands looks bad.
Also I hope you can move around the quick access toggles/remove others. I Never use device control, or smart view, and hate that they are beneath the brightness slider in the beta.
I could've missed this being said but when it out on the galaxy phones
Talking about the notification panels, I just feel the design looks kinda cheap. I mean Samsung used to have more character in their design and the One UI 6 just looks kinda like other android phone. They remove the date and clock style in the expanded notification but to make it looks "not Samsung". Don't get me wrong, Samsung usually has more interactive designs in their One UI (take a look at the improvement between One UI 4 to One UI 5). They make everything that "interactive" such as date clock and title (like in setting) become bigger. It makes the user feel that their phone is giving an interactive design and Samsung's character. One UI 6 kinda feels like giving us more option but not as interactive as before. If Samsung want an improvement, I think they should focus on more interactive design. Perhaps, make the notification more simpler to be read or make more animation with the notification panels (like in the dynamics weather).
The bluetooth on airplane mode is a thing on my 5 years old OnePlus 6...
Samsung, currently doesn't allow creating shortcuts of settings individual menus. That should be brought back.
Where's the multiple wallpapers option??!
I like how it has a great R.A.M. memory and ah vast amount of storage available, how soon would it be available at The Caribbean...reply thanx
I always think of one ui as just stock google one generation ahead. I keep saying I'll try another manufacturer but one ui keeps me coming back to Sammy.
The phone sections of the video look like a dream
Why people not asking it should change lenses in 4k60fps video rather than digitally zooming in one lense.
That is most awaited and important feature.
Bluetooth already stays on in airplane mode in the current one ui
Wait lock screen customization was out w/ good locks before IOS
