Samsung One UI 6: Is Android 14 for Galaxy better than Pixel UI?

  • Samsung's One UI 6 is here, bringing Android 14 to the Galaxy S23 series, and it's got me thinking about how phone UI has evolved over recent years.
    Every now and again, there'll be an enormous big-deal design overhaul -- something like an iOS 7 or Android 12, that completely changes the look and feel of the platform. Then, over the years, more and more stuff gradually gets piled on top of that UI until, inevitably, the house of cards collapses and there's another major overhaul -- another generational design change.
    And it feels sorta like we're at the end of that cycle now with Samsung, five years on from the debut of this design language in One UI 1.0. But at the same time, One UI 6, I think, gives us a small glimpse of what's beyond, in Samsung's next design cycle. Let's take a look at what's new!

    I understand Samsung trying to tread the tight rope between pixel and ios in an attempt to be relatable to western customer base, but they were right with their one hand ability. All they need to do is work on the animations a lot and I believe they will be doing so much better.

    Samsung should hire some animation expert dev to make perfect their animation like pixel phones or IOS in everywhere. Software and hardware enhancement comes every year, but they need to fix their basic animations with zero stuttering experience.

    While I agree that the quick settings panel of Samsung was due for a design change for a long time now, choosing form over function by making the UI not suited for one hand use pretty much destroys the vision Samsung had for OneUI. There is a lack of transition animations when doing various actions in the UI. And those that do have, its not smooth. Don't get me wrong - its not a lack of speed, but its lack of number of actual frames in the transition animarions or a lack thereof, I guess. I believe thats the reason why iOS feels so responsive which increases precieved speed and fluidity. Anyways, OneUI is awesome with all its powerful features, but Samsung really needs to work on making their entire UI as fluid & smooth as iOS.

    • @jgjg26
      @jgjg26 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The animations in iOS are designed to mask the slow opening of the apps giving you that feeling of fluidity. Unlike Android you don't have the option to make the animations faster.

      Do you have an example of this?

    • @rabin_john
      @rabin_john 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jgjg26 I don't think most people could easily perceive the actual speed. What matters is perceived fluidity.
      And yes, it's a good thing that Android allows us to increase the speed of animations thereby increasing the actual speed of app opening, however, it doesn't resolve the issue of decreased perceived fluidity. And the only way to reaolve that would be to add more number of actual frames in the transition animations !
      Animations, regardless of whatever speed they are at, are a major component of perceived fluidity.

Most of my friends can't live with phones like Pixel or Nothing, they are really niche ones. Even my dad says to Google "what's this apps from 2012?" I'm so far liking this update I don't know what people are talking about calling OneUI outdated, ugly, etc. when it's simply not. My only complaint is the new quick settings panel. If they really want to put wifi and bluetooth buttons on top they can simply let us arrange the icons on notifications panel which they do with this new update so I don't see the reason to totally change quick settings panel. I do hope that they don't stick with this design on official release because I simple will not update for this reason alone.

    I really wish I could get something more information dense than One UI 5. One UI 6 is going to waste a lot of the screen space that I payed for on stuff I really don't care about. I don't care about aesthetics. All I care about is first, the OS and the UI will not waste the processing power that I payed for on things like aesthetics. And secondly, that there are no margins unless they are borders between 2 neighboring sections of the screen put there to make navigation easier. I could fit 4 more quick settings in the first page of the quick settings panel... But nope... side margins. I alo feel that bubbly stuff is visually loud. Noisy. I like something cleaner. I do like coloured icons as they make it easier to find what I'm looking for. But I wish I could get rid of the titles below apps on the homescreen to make room for one more row of apps. UIs are just...inefficient. I wish One UI would let me customize margins and icon size and get rid of titles. I buy devices for thier powerful hardware and customizability. Not the UI. I select software based on how useful it is. Not based on any "cool factor".

And the One UI6 quick launch menu looks better, more modern and useful, besides being more efficient. Why settle for antiquated when you can have cutting edge????
