Wow, yeah - that place is beautiful~ I'm twice your age and no longer positive I could keep up but man, I do wish I could! Rock on you two! And if you ever want to scale it back and take a grandma along, I'll volunteer! Haha - Jim I am so glad you're healing so well!
I really enjoyed that bit of history at the beginning, thanks guys. I'm from Ontario, moved to Alberta when I was 6 and I've really been missing my home province and that canoe way of life. It is not like that here. We don't have any canoe country left. I make the best of it and I paddle out with the motorboats and I eat a few walleye from the lakes here but I'd be back in Ontario in a heartbeat if it weren't for the pandemic. It's very helpful to see this stuff and at least know that the Canadian way of life still exists somewhere.
Hey glad u enjoyed that. I agree with your sentiment about Ontario and the canoe contry it really is like nonwhere else on earth. So many lakes and rivers and warm ones you can swim in at that. We r lucky in Canada in general to have so much water. Thanks for watching 👍
Hey man, it's not all lost here. Jasper National park has some amazing back country mountain canoeing with an epic amount of history because that's where the explores first crossed the continental devide, and you won't get anywhere else. We have some of the best big river canoe trips. We have the Jackson lake canoe route, which is a simple, beginner friendly back country canoe route in Lakeland provincial park out by Lac La Biche. Pretty much anything north of Slave Lake is going to be just as remote as this. And northern Saskatchewan is very easily accessible for us which is some equally rugged, if not more rugged to the trips you're seeing here, with way better fishing, haha. Adventure is still here, you just have to go out and find it.
@@heneryDoDs I wish I could agree with you at all but I just can't. I've been looking hard for over 10 years and I know what it's like out there. Jasper doesn't count because you have to book it years in advance and pay way too much for the privilege. I've seen everything from oil slick lakes to headless discarded bear carcasses in the middle of the road to human feces in the campsites north of slave lake, anywhere quads and trucks can go is disgusting and is not canoe country. Which brings me to the current state of our one and only canoe circuit: Lakeland. It was my favorite place in the province until last week when I was there. The whole park is full of drunk people doing doughnuts in overpowered motorboats in the walleye holes and there is HUMAN FECES in the campsites. Lakeland is in a sad state. So I'll reiterate, canoe culture in Alberta is dead. I wish it wasn't. But it is. As of 2020. Saskatchewan is looking sweet though I've dreamed about those northern lakes for a long time.
Canadian Sled Dog ugh that sucks! I’m a former albertan but have been in the Yukon for 20yrs. You want outdoors country and few people and regulations, this is the place. I just got back from 7 days on the river - no permits, camp anywhere, no garbage and very few people. It’s a canoe/kayak/SUP’ers dream.
