  • Is the "Holy Trinity" (Strider, Hinderer, Chris Reeve Knives) still considered at the pinnacle of the production knife game and are they still relevant?

    I remember, 10 years ago, looking at Strider, Hinderer, and CRK Sebenza 21. I ended up buying my large Sebenza 21 micarta. Yeah, I fell in love. And I also realized it wasn't my perfect CRK. Three CRK's later and I have my baby. I just got my small Sebenza 31 KnifeArt carbon fiber Insingo. Perfection for me! Thank you!

    I finally have all three and I can say for sure they still make the best knives period.

    I for one appreciate the acoustics of the lock-stick on my Strider

    Others are coming. Ferryman Forge, Giant Mouse to name a few. Social media has allowed the custom makers to open their books as well as the consumer to collaborate and design their own.
    With that being said, I became a CRK fan with the Mnandi. The rabbit hole then opened for the inkosi and sebenza. Then they decided to re introduce their fix blades. It’s a vacuum to my pockets!
    You mentioned a smaller collection. I suggest staying away from fixed blades if you want to keep the collection to a minimum. Oh yeah, kitchen cutlery as well!

    I got a couple pf the big 3s over the last decade and the hype is definitely real. Always enjoy the ergo and aesthetics of the timeless designs!

    I'm yet to own a Strider but it's on my list. I used to have a Sebenza 21 but I sold it years ago. I'm definitely saving for a new 31 though, I regret that sale.

    Love your enthusiasm mate :)
    The “big 3” are still relevant (especially with CRK finally moving to a good steel with high hrc), they’re just not as sought after as they used to be. I think the newer knife guys just think they’re all overpriced and they’d rather have a WE for $200 which is fair enough. I have none of the 3 in my collection anymore but I like CRK more than the other 2.
    Hinderer having all that different hardware is just stupid and not offering hollow grinds on the production knives is kinda annoying, Striders are a pain in the ass to get and I hate the pocket clip and how they carry so it’s CRK for the win. My favourite knife right now is the Imamba by Arno Bernard, it’s as close to the perfect pocket knife that I’ve found so far. Glad your boy is over the worst of it 👊

    The Pena x series mula is my most expensive knife, followed by the spidiechef. My daily tends to be the bugout though (od green / dlc :)

    There doesn't need to be a trinity but if there were, strider and hinderer no longer belong on the list

    • @these7seas
      @these7seas  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What brands do you think belong at the top?

    • @codys5727
      @codys5727 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@these7seas It depends on the criteria but I think one could argue for American makers, High quality, desirability and consistency. CRK for me is at the top, followed by more contemporary makers like Koenig. Holt, Skiff, TRM and even smaller custom guys like Michael Raymond and Scott Cook. I feel like the above makers have better reputations than either hinderer or strider

    • @neillevy4087
      @neillevy4087 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree. Strider and Hinderer do nothing better than makers like Spyderco, TRM
      They are only good at nostalgia
      That CRK is still relevant is a huge testament to how innovative they were. Still love em
