The evolution from the Holt Specter to the Renegade and why we need Holt Bladeworks as a community
มุมมอง 135หลายเดือนก่อน
The Holt Bladeworks continues to cement themselves as a major contender in making some of the very best EDC tools today. I take a look at their first model (the Specter) to their latest offering (the Renegade) and do a quick breakdown of the evolution and improvements over the years.

Very nice
How do you like these compared to the strider performance?
These knives are beautiful! I am wary of the idea of a "tough" holt due to having heard of lock failures. Otherwise really impressed with the thoughtful designs though
Great review! Subbed
Always enjoy your vids, I think i like that Specter better
I was watching this and thinking man this guy needs a spartan harsey, then you pulled one out I have a bunch of Chris Reeve and Hinderer knives. Love them but the action on the spartan harsey is awesome. Looking at either a strider or a Koenig for my next purchase.
Is there authorized dealers for Striders? Because Ive asked around and I feel like the Strider community is hush hush and honesty Im scared to buy from ebay or trade in fear of getting a fake or something like that
Microtech does a T20 pivot with T8 body screws in their cross bar knives.
you could buy a really nice firearm for that price..
Only $725...yea ok, sure, satin finish you say...nice, and the acoustics are good
That Ares he compared it to is over a grand right now. And the Oz Roosevelt he pulled out is about $850. These are high end custom pieces. You get those prices with quality like this.
Plain Jane, thats it! All my 6 Reeve have MagnaCut! My Favorit and EDC is Small Inkosi Tanto, it‘s Like an english Bull Dog, can cut Cigarett Paper!
This knife is
The finger cut out on the blade.Looks like the shape of a bullet.
I really appreciate your reviews. You always bring something new and cool. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife at Blade show Atlanta incredibly down to earth and seems like a cool dude.
I miss my vecp
I need one!
Just bought this same sng on Ebay, wonder if same knife. Lol
That inlay is gorgeous!! 😮
That knife is gorgeous! Man, I want one!!!
I have a few versions of the Stitch, I think it’s the best $300 knife you can buy!
Pocket clip is on the wrong side lol
Agree 100% 👍
Really enjoyed that one! Working my way through loads of your content since you appeared in my feed! 👍
Thank you for the video and all the details!! Very well done and almost spit my coffee with the chipotle gift card part 😂
Pivot first
Why did you sell the rask?
I was chasing something else but I missed it so much I ended up getting another rask this week. That’s how good it is IMO.
Beautiful blades. I’m really looking forward to The Judge!
Would love to see how it looks! Is there any mockups in the wild?
@@these7seasI don’t even think there is a prototype yet. Unless Nicholas has one! 😂 Still design phase, right? I’m sure you’ve seen the same as me in the Pride FB Group and IG. 😂
Cool to hear your thoughts on em both. Have yet to own a Holt.
If you get a chance, snag one. It’s def worth it.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Ive had the Haptic and the morphius. I ended up trading my Haptic. The spector was the model I wanted most because it's a little bigger. I do love my Morphius though, it's a nude version with kinda the same milling pattern you have on your spector. Anyway they are all bangers. I'm not sure how I feel about the renegade, maybe it will grow on me. Lol. 👍🇺🇲💪💯💵💥ERs
Let the Renegade grow on you. at first I was iffy about it but now that I’ve had it for a little while it is honestly the best model the Holts has come out with. I would even say it’s a little more superior to the Specter IMO.
What do you do for a living?
Nothing crazy. Just a normal job.
@@these7seas I’m just tryna be able to afford your taste 😂😂
Mick Stryder is a conman and convicted felon. FTG.
'when i use a folding knife' (pulls out a seb31 w/somesort of inlay) haha!
Btw an Ultem bead lanyard would look fantastic with the gold anodized hardware. Just a thought.
I never thought of that, thanks for the recommendation!
Absolutely gorgeous with the gold. How did you get it direct from CRK in less than a year? Back in 2008 I special ordered a large Regular Sebenza (as it was being discontinued) with gold hardware, double thumb lugs, and polished blade. Would love to have that one back! Managed to snag a plain large Insingo 31 Magnacut and I’m stoked as I’ve been waiting for years. Not like I had been regularly checking dealers or getting on a notification list like I should have. I just happened to look at the right place at the right time. If I decide to order one again it will be like yours but with polished blade and glass blasted scales.
That sounds like a beautiful config! Yeah at the time I ordered it, they may not have had as many in the queue as now. I heard it’s over a year wait now (more like several years) to get one ordered direct. But it’s worth the wait!
@@these7seas yeah they rapidly went from 1-2 years to 4 years and now 6 years! Probably conservative estimates though and I imagine you would receive most orders sooner.
Yeah. I mean it doesn’t hurt to just put in your order and just forget about it. They don’t require any down payment and once your order comes up, they’ll reach out to you to see if you still want it and if you do at that point, you can pay. If not, then there’s no penalty fee or anything like that.
@@these7seas Yeah they’re great like that. I’ve ordered direct a couple times. One time I think I had to turn it down when the time came.
I ordered 1 about few hour ago it was a good deal.Hope it will hold the edge just like my Adamas folder in Cruwear
Mine held an edge a long long time. It was my camp go to knife so it did everything from food prep to light wood processing and even swam with it on a few occasions.
@@these7seas That's awesome .I'm wondering if the knife back lock would hold well and not to fold on the fingers, God forbid.
For current makers i would say Koenig, Oz, and Medford can't be beat. There are others as good, but for high end production models, nobody is better in that price range. Im only talking American, because everyone knows Shiro are probably as good as anything around 1000
I would love to try a Medford one of these days. The design aesthetic is a little unattractive to me but I keep hearing good things about them so gotta give it a go! Which model do you recommend for me to try?
The gold putter is my favorite, but this finish looks very nice. I would take this for sure. Can i order one from them custom?
I don’t think they’re taking any custom orders right now from what I’ve seen
facxbook groups are the quickest way to get scammed. much better on knife swap
Just wish it wasnt so square
That's what I like about it. It's different.
Yeah I personally love the square silhouette of the knife but the blade shape itself isn’t as attractive to me but. It doesn’t take away from how awesome this knife is in every other way.
I do have to say though, I’ve heard so many people say that a large Rosie with a 3.25-3.5” blade would be killer. Over the last year, not needing a blade like my SmF or even the xm18, a 3.25” blade has been my go to. So a slightly larger than original Rosie would probably be one of the best sellers for them. The 3” is a goat already. I’m curious if they will even bother with a second design like Koenig and Grimsmo. Dial in the first design, then do the same for a second. They already have the flagship.
Agree. They prob don’t have to come out with anything else and will still kill it in the knife market but seeing how Oz is really in tune with the knife community, I’m sure they’ll come out with a Large at some point.
CRK, Hinderer and strider aren’t even close to the level of these. That’s why the xm is half the price. It’s literally half as nice. Nowhere near the level of fit and finish as the oz Rosie, holts, lamia, etc.
I can see your point and for sure these top tier companies are doing that extra work and care to bring us these amazing knives.
A Rosie is next on my list. I was looking for a holt a couple of weeks ago and actually scored a killer haptic for $600 from a busy that’s now my work user lol. So the Rosie will be my out of work carry.
That’s a great deal on the Haptic! Yeah I’ve had the haptic and the Rosie and I personally love the Rosie a bit more for EDC, but can’t go wrong with either!
Yes i want one.....
It’s worth every accolade
Those look way too expensive for design and what it is. It’s not like a custom knife it’s just a high end production knife is it not?! I feel like this should be no more than 500 or 600 and that’s being generous. Have people forgotten or are unaware of what’s out there? CRK, Strider, Hinderer, ZT 0777 lol. A Chavez or any of the thousands of ti high end frame locks that could be had for 500-800. A Kirby lambert. God I could go on but today there’s a lot of hype knives that are ugly and not performers that are eaten by the masses such as these oz Rosie, Lamia SPK, Koenig etc. Not my money. If you like it man and you got the dough.
To me the Rosie lives up to the hype. Its is an absolute dream in the hand. Its is by far the most comfortable knife I’ve ever owned. And I’ve had many many knives
You’re way off here lol. They are cnc semi customs. You aren’t quite grasping the amount of hand finishing done on these. They don’t come off the cnc mill smooth. There’s hires of work that needs done on each one to get this kind of finish. I’m a cnc operator by profession so I can say this for a fact.
Chavez are made in China by reate. These are American made. People that buy them have the dough. For sure. ZT and Spyderco make great knives that are probably more what you're looking to spend.
@@Sleepy_spartan717nice! I wish I had experience with cnc.
Appreciate your opinions and I can see your point but I also know that I don’t know the work and expense it takes to manufacture a knife in America so for me, buying this knife wasn’t so much of trying to find the most affordable knife but supporting a knife company I believe in. In person though, using this knife, I’ve come to experience how well built it is, the thoughtful design choices, and continues to excel in everything a knife should excel in (cutting performance, comfort in hand, carriability, solid lockup). Yes, for sure I can get alll this in a Spyderco for $100 but I’m at a point in my knife journey where I appreciate these higher end stuff. Kinda like when you go from a Toyota Prius to a Lamborghini. Both do the same thing essentially but the person who buys the Lambo most likely has a little more appreciation for the mechanics and details of a fine driving machine.
Flipper is better
Hahaha to each their own
Im just now at a place where i can try and get a strider lol Very infirmative video!
Awesome! I hope you enjoy your Strider as much as I have!
@@these7seas i wanna get one soooo bad lol
You can find them readily available in the secondary. Try the Reddit Knife Swap and their FB groups (Strider Knives Addicts and Strider Knives an Authorized Group). I recommend you try their flagship model the SNG. You can find them anywhere from 400-600 depending on the condition and config.
Just ordered the manix 2 same configuration for 180 on Rivers edge Cutlery. Available now
Wish I would have know that about 2 hrs ago lol
Oh man would love to hear your thoughts on it once you get it! I was eyeing that one!
I have multiple Hinderers, and have not encountered lock stick. What will cause lock stick is getting oil on the lock face. It should be cleaned off with rubbing alcohol and using graphite from a pencil will usually help prevent it until the lock face can wear in. It may take a couple of applications until the problem is resolved.
Thanks! Appreciate your fix it advice!
Lock stick blade not centered. Wow !
Hahaha if you’re gonna get a Strider it comes with the territory
I've bought a d sold several sngs and smfs. I watched your video to see if the performance models were better. I guess not.
