    After some feedback from the viewers, I have realized that the Viewsonic that is in the video is the XG270Q not the XG270QG. I was sent the wrong monitor from my actual purchase and did not check the model once I received the monitor. Unfortunately, stuff happens sometimes.
    So if you hear me say Viewsonic XG270QG, just know that the actual monitor in the video is the Viewsonic XG270Q.

    I just FOUND THE FIX for my Series X. I had it running 1440p at 120hz before so I knew it was possible but after an update I wasn’t able to achieve it anymore… until I went into my LG monitor settings and if you go to “Input” and then go to “Aspect Ratio” you might see that it’s set to: Full Wide, if so then that’s your problem! I switched the aspect ratio to “Original” and went back to the settings in my XBOX and was able to set the resolution to 1440p at 120hz. Hope this helps some of you with this issue!
    NOTE: I had to turn off “Adaptive Sync” in my monitor settings. When this was turned on the Xbox wouldn’t let me select 120hz @ 1440p.

    You have a lot of good info in your videos but the main problem your viewers are having is that they need to make sure all the features their monitor supports are supported through HDMI. A lot of monitors say they’re capable of 1440p120/144 but if you dig some more, they can only achieve that through DisplayPort. Next video about this sort of topic, make a point to touch up on this. For those that are using monitors with these features that are capable through HDMI, idk how to help other than flipping through every setting until something gives you an option you didn’t have before, then take it and add everything else back in. That’s what I had to do on my BenQ EX2780Q. 1440p120, VRR, can accept a 4K signal for a glimpse of 4KHDR, ALLM, basically everything except 4K120.

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bring up a really good point. This is definitely an undertaking, but researching some of the most popular makes and models of monitors might help a ton of people. That being said the standard spec of HDMI 2.0 is almost undoubtedly able to support 1440p at 120hz.
      Sounds like I have a day filled with in depth research for a top 20 list of monitors...🥴

    • @THEGUARDIANSTACO117
      @THEGUARDIANSTACO117 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BainCustom there are a couple lists on the r/xboxseriesx subreddit, with confirmed monitors and they were supposed to be kept updated but I guess they got rounded up pretty quick and hasn’t really been tweaked since. Should give a very nice starting point, one of them was specifically monitors that can also accept a 4K signal for low tier HDR content and most of the top monitors are on it, no surprise there.
      I’d also like to point out another thing that seemed interesting to note, while I have your attention. Someone had pointed out the Xbox uses AMD CPU and so could possibly be a reason why Nvidia Gsync monitors may not properly allow VRR or have Vsync compatibility issues with the consoles.
      The research definitely sounds dreadful, sorry.

      Yepppp I'm having the same problem...sort of. I just bought a Samsung Odyssey G5 and have my Xbox S hooked up to it. I followed his directions and was able to get the settings to say "1440p/120hz" yet when I play Apex, for example, it is still capped at 1080/60fps. It is promising what it can't deliver!!

    • @stoneskinner4576
      @stoneskinner4576 ปีที่แล้ว

      AND I'm using a 2.1 even when the Xbox S only needs 2.0 to unlock full potential. I think you're right that some/most monitors can only reach full potential by way of the display port, which Xbox X/S does not have-_-

    • @THEGUARDIANSTACO117
      @THEGUARDIANSTACO117 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stoneskinner4576 Sorry, that's just the performance of that game on Series S. The games still have their own individual performance which depends on how the devs optimize the game for it. Try looking at comparisons of different games for Series S|X and PS5 and you'll start to see what I mean. Not every game is automatically 1440p120fps just because you set it that way in the Xbox settings.
      Sorry to say, it sounds like you should sell the S and get an X.

    The Series X just refuses to do 1440/120 on some monitors no matter what you do, for whatever reason. I have a Viewsonic VX2758-2kp-mhd. It's a 1440p/144hz monitor. My PC can pull that no problem. Hook up the Series X with the exact same cable and port, and it's capped at 1080p on 120fps. You can change it to 1440p, but it drops the HZ to 60fps. Makes 0 sense. It's mostly a Microsoft issue and needs to be resolved ASAP.

    Thanks your bringing this up. Man I've been brain storming. I'm looking at different types of low budget 2k monitors for an Xbox series s but the reviews just drains man. People saying that doesn't work ,that the monitor will downgrade to 1080 at 120hz.Correct me if I'm wrong, I just saw your reply to one comment and I can take that for a fact that any 2k 144 to 165Hz monitor can support series s 2k 120Hz capabilities because of the HDMI 2.0.I just don't want to buy a monitor and find out later that although is 2k 120 ,Xbox series s won't support it . Thanks man! You got a sub .

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for the comment and sub. There has been a lot of discussion around how the series s treats higher-resolution displays. From my experience it is pretty much the same quality as the series X when the game is optimized for 1440p resolution. Send a 1440p 120hz.
      I think the confusion is around certain games not having support for 1440p, meaning that the display won't automatically give you 1440p. It is still bound by the games capabilities.

    Hi dude. Informative videos! But after a lot of numerical vids, I got confused... do you need a monitor with a 2.1 hdmi port to play at 2k120 fps + vrr? Or is 2.0 + freesync support enough?

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can imagine that is a pain to go through a ton of videos. The good news is that hdmi 2.0 will support 2k 120hz on 1440p with VRR. However, not all monitors support VRR at 1440p or 120hz for that matter. Less so with 1440p. So it really matters what monitor it is more than the HDMI type. I hope that helps a little.

    So. I'm new to this modern monitor stuff. But I'm relatively tech-savvy, generally speaking. I just got a Samsung Odyssey G5 for use with my Series X. However, unless I'm doing something wrong or it needs an update which I'm still figuring out, I can't run at 1440p with 120hz. Only 1440p with 60hz or 1080p with 120hz. I tried tuning all the settings on xbox to the same as you've described, no dice.

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So for that monitor it is totally different than in this video. You should be able to turn the color depth to 8-bit, uncheck allow 4k and the 120hz mode will unlock for 1440p. The last ditch option is to change the PC/AV mode to PC for HDMI.

      Definitely check your model number and make sure it has HDMI 2.0 and a VESA compliant 120hz. Without those 2 features you will not be able to get 1440p 120hz on console. You might honestly just have a monitor that isn't compatible.

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is just like turning on the 120hz capability....it doesn't mean that you will get 120hz in every single game. It will only turn on when conditions allow, and for 1440p HDR is not baked into the Xbox cake yet.

Thanks in advance.

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  ปีที่แล้ว

      More than likely not. Most streaming content isn't in 24fps these days anyways. there is no real reason to match it up in almost all cases. Even TV's run 60hz and just have a frame insertion or motion smoothing technology built in. If you find a solution though, let me know. Might be fun to test out some time.

    So i’m undecided whether or not to get a 4k 120hz monitor or the 2k 120hz for use with my series X.
    Almost no games support 4k 120hz and I can’t seem to notice any difference from 2k to 4k. (Maybe my iPad screen is the reason)
    Will games run at the 120hz at 2k or are they still 60hz ?
    Wondering if getting a 4k 60hz with great hdr is a better option for the money.

    • @BainCustom
      @BainCustom  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is always a tough call. Into the future 4K will have more support that 1440p. 1440p seems to have lost a little steam, but is still compatible with a lot of fps titles. My thought is that 1440p is a better price to performance than 4k atm.

      You may have to go to video and fidelity and change the color depth to 8-bit instead of 10-bit. That seems to be the main issue that I have recently ran into. Also keep in mind, if the display does not have a VESA standard 120hz and instead has a 119.6hz (or similar) then it will not be recognized by the series s.

      Chances are the monitor is receiving a 1440p signal but down scaling to 1080p. The same thing happens with 4K resolution on 1440p monitors. I would change it back to 1080p so you are able to get HDR in game as well. Just in case it is messing with the console settings.
