Well if they adapted Steve to have different animations, it would either be totally creepy or not feel like Minecraft. I would despise Story Mode in Smash, it would just not be Minecraft. Steve is the Game&Watch of this game.
I love that they changed absolutely nothing about the character. Could have been some 3D reimagining, could have been that awkward fan animation style where they creepily animate the character's face with unfitting sub-pixel details and unnatural movements. But this Game and Watch style 1 to 1 recreation was exactly what I would have wanted from a Minecraft addition to Smash. While there has to be a dozen characters/series I'd rather have added, if they wanted to do Minecraft, then this was how to do it right.

Steve is one of the most powerful characters in all of video gaming. Without console commands, he can carry 45.7 million kilograms (2368 cubic meters of gold). That's 45 navy ships in his mothafuckin pocket, and he doesn't even break a sweat. WITH console commands, he can carry more mass than the ENTIRE UNIVERSE and do it effortlessly. I think he'll be fine.
With so many icons of gaming all in one place, it really does. Mario, Sonic, Pikacu, Pac Man, Mega Man, The Belmonts, Cloud, Ryu and Ken, Snake, Joker, Dragon Quest’s Luminaries, Steve... I’m beginning to think there’s no limits for who can join this roster.
This... genuinely surprised me. I think the best part about this is that they stuck to how Steve behaves in Minecraft's game world and didn't force any kind of limb movement or emotion like they did with Minecraft Story Mode.

I love that they changed absolutely nothing about the character.
Could have been some 3D reimagining, could have been that awkward fan animation style where they creepily animate the character's face with unfitting sub-pixel details and unnatural movements. But this Game and Watch style 1 to 1 recreation was exactly what I would have wanted from a Minecraft addition to Smash. While there has to be a dozen characters/series I'd rather have added, if they wanted to do Minecraft, then this was how to do it right.
I was expecting a sort of Minecraft Dungeons style of animation.

This... genuinely surprised me.
I think the best part about this is that they stuck to how Steve behaves in Minecraft's game world and didn't force any kind of limb movement or emotion like they did with Minecraft Story Mode.
