If you’re not familiar with Doyle, go check out green light girl that he does then also go check out arc angels the band he had with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section and Charlie Sexton. They are the shit.
Powerful throaty vocals by Clapton. Awesome slide by Derek n Doyle. Drummer is on fire. Everyone on stage looks happy n enjoying. Great Live performance 👏
Top class men and women doing a good day's work. You can't beat this with a stick. One of the best live videos I have seen since YT began. Watch it every couple of weeks,,
Holy shit! Where to begin: so much talent on that stage. The rhythm section alone is as good as it gets - Steve Jordan on drums and the great Willie Weeks on bass. This must be heaven. Unbelievable. Seriously. Update: I keep coming back to this. Steve Jordan is a monster - the drumming is so good on this.
I hope the late great Blind Willie Johnson who originally recorded this 1927 is smiling down from heaven on all of the people who love the incredible music he created. It's so sad that Blind Willie's mother died when he was very young, and his stepmother blinded him permanently by splashing poison in his face when he was 7 years old. Blind Willie may have died broke, sick, blind and alone but his music will be around forever. I think Eric Clapton did a great job with this song, but the original one Blind Willie did will always be my favorite.
@@amherst88 I remember in his bio he mentions that he thought his grandmother was his mom but really one of his aunts was his real mom. He eventually figured it out. A great autobiography because he kept a diary from when he was very young. I need to read it again.

What an amazing groove the whole band and Clapton changing seamlessly from rhythm to slide and back again three amazing guitar players a fabulous drummer great people on keyboards a fabulous bass player
That slide down the neck of guitar and back up into that first note is brilliant. Even Willie Weekes (bassist ) loves it in the background. Clapton is the guitar God !
@@melissatyree566 I'm the same. Seen him live I think 4 times. At Blackbushe he was playing mostly the Slowhand stuff, in Sweden he was on the Just One Night tour so you probably know that set (superb album) and the Albert Hall times were a bit "man in Armani suit plays laid back songs and some blues, sleepily." So I've never heard him play this or even Layla. I've got this concert on DVD and it must have been mega, with this being the best version of Motherless Children I've ever heard. Yeah, lucky Tom. :)

I'm a guitar player, and a pretty damn good one at that. But grooves like this make me a bit envious of how much fun it must be to play the drums really well!
Duane and Butch are looking down with great pride. The proof of a great performance...the musicians are all smiling and having fun. The drummer is killing it.
Steve Jordan (Keith Richard's drummer) is a machine here. The other guitar player is Doyle Bramhall II who regularly plays with Clapton but also co-wrote some songs with Stevie Ray Vaughn. This thing cooks....
Even though Clapton is a little older it's still one of the best versions of this song!and the other slide players made it sound even more feral! Great!
Thanks for that. I was looking for someone that said who the kid was. I knew that I'd seen him around, and just looking at him he screams Allman, and - as it turns out - that's actually right! I'm guessing that he played with the Allman's when I seen them some time in the 20'naughts....

His voice continues to richen and improve like fine wine. What an amazing talent. Can't stop listening.
The drums are by far the trickiest part in nailing this song. Especially the fills leading back to the main riff after the change.
