In recent years there has been a huge hype about Rolex and prices have risen to grotesque heights. The countless TH-camrs and self-proclaimed watch experts who produced some ridiculous Rolex video or blog every day for clicks and likes were also to blame. Now the whole thing is put into perspective. I bought a Submariner with percentages in 2009, but that time won't come back. The fact is, you won't be able to simply pick up a Rolex from a concessionaire in the next few years. But the fact that all the pure speculators are now losing money makes me very happy.
If people are bozos, fall for the hype and overpay for these pricey consumables then that’s their own choices and decisions. I would not buy any Rolex at the moment.
The best part regarding Rolex grey market pricing being lower; is the lack of leverage AD’s have when looking to buy. Waitlists are one thing, but expecting you spend money on other timepieces prior to getting the watch you want, are over for the time being.

TBH, Rolex hasn't increased their prices that much. The "white walker" I bought 3 years ago is only some 5% more than what I bought it for. Meanwhile in the same time, most of the world has gone up like 20% in inflation.
Just frustrating, I could have bought a no date submariner for - $8,500 new from a dealer. I said I was going to wait a little and not only has the price shot up but now I have to be on a list. Grey market is still too high. At this point, I've been looking at Cartier a lot more, plus I can order it online directly instead of dealing with a dealer.
Yeah Cartier annual sales are up, get the feeling lots of folks looking for just a nice swiss watch and can't get a Rolex at AD are going to Cartier over Omega, especially female buyers, helps that Cartier has a lower average order value.

@@BufanMuayThai Yeah they definitely are, I'm in the Uk and went there last month again, they even had the explorer 40 on display and were putting some colour stick on the tag. He let me try it on but I couldn't buy it. Seemed like he wanted to keep talking to me though and gave me another one of his cards. How much would you say a purchase history is worth? I've seen some Explorer 40's sell for around retail now from grey dealers, would it be worth paying a hundred or 2 more to get an AD purchase history?
Isn't this like buying a Lamborghini because the market is depressed and it only costs $50000? I'm really interested, how many viewers have the money to buy the gold ones discussed here?
Not in Australia. The sales people here don't get commissions on Rolexes. This forces them to sell other brands in order to establish a "Purchase history" then they consider you for a Rolex. Some unpopular Rolex models can be purchased immediately or with minimum wait, but any of the more popular models will require a purchase history with that particular boutique. They will dangle the carrot with no promises. It's basically blackmail.
What is this confusion between grey market and second hand market ? Grey market are brand new watches coming from a AD which resells them to an intermediary. Second hand means used watches sold by pretty much anyone . There are no « grey market watches with some marks on them »
I bypassed the AD n bought an unworn white walker last weekend, cost a few grand more but it’s worth it to keep my dignity and avoid the grovelling many people have to subject themselves too.
Best time to buy Rolex is the best time to buy any luxury goods. That’s during economic downturns. Myself along w/a few friends have bought subs, gmt’s & Daytona’s at 20-40% below retail. If you look closely, you will see the ebbs and flows of the market. Just be patient and be ready to buy.
I’m still waiting for a No Date Submariner, and not sure I will ever get a Steel Daytona, so forgive me if I call BS. I could have had one of the non waitlist precious metal ones ages ago 🙄
The thought of having to grovel to an AD in order to become "allowed" to pay anywhere between £12-£16k for a basic steel Rolex, when I could walk straight into an Omega boutique and buy an Aqua Terra Worldtimer for like £9k, just blows my head off. You could buy a new JLC Reverso Duoface Moonphase for the same as you'd pay for a pre-owned GMT. Rolex remains the "everyone look at me" type of watch. It's the watch brand that appeals to the egotistical and the flamboyant. I used to want a Rolex, maybe about 8 years ago. It was the same then as it is today. You couldn't just walk in and buy whatever you wanted. The fact people buy Rolex watches just to leave them for years in a safe to try to make a few grand on them, just goes to show how preposterous this has all become.
Guys it’s shocking how in 2016 you could have your pick of the lot, any Rolex was available…. Now the AD is telling me I need to be on a wait list for an OP!! And even then, I can only get on if I have a history! Am I buying a Rolex or Patek!! Rolex need to stay in their lane and stop pretending to be something they’re not
This year I could finally afford a gmt master 2 pepsi. Went to all 3 ADs in my area. Only one of them put me on a waiting list, the others told me that there is no such thing as a waiting list just for me to leave. Still havent heard from that one dealer. On the contrary, on Chrono24 there are about 500 unworn pieces from 2021 till 2024 that are being sold for 20000 Euros that no one is actually buying. People dont understand that when the demand falls (and it will), those grey market people will flood the market with cheap gmts that no one will buy because they would just go to the AD and buy a brand new one. And in the next years to come, this watch will have no collectible value since there would be an oversupply of gmts.
Interesting info. Great video Jenni! Even if they have dropped or available at retail they are however still very expensive no? I mean there’s no correction for the price increase. Not that I expected that but it puts this in perspective imo 😎😅
I went to the Rolex store at Geneva last week. I asked foe the Submariner dual tone blue and gold, and the Submariner steel black dial. Neither of them was available. They offered me used watches at a higher price than the new ones. So, NO, in a nutshell, still mostly on a waitlist
The waitlist is part of the strategy. They have those watches in stock but they won’t sell you directly. They will put you on a waitlist to force a decision as soon as you get the call. On the other hand steel and gold submariners are available below retail price already on the grey market which means - no waitlists + the amount of people who are willing to get themselves waitlisted to get a watch more expensive than on the grey market will go down drastically
Was over at Hyde Park the other day which just merged with WatchBox so they have certified pre-owned Rolex in their main store right next to the Rolex Boutique. Such a different vibe going from the boutique over into the main watch store. Rolex employees in the boutiques alone make me not want to buy one. Also the certified pre-owned are significantly better on price and in pretty good shape with 2 year warranty. Honestly though I'd just buy off the grey market if I were to pick up a Rolex of any type. There are other watches on my list waaaay above Rolex after the wait list BS, uppity boutique workers, etc. Rolex dropped way down on my to-buy list after all that.
Rolex are very nice everyday watches. But I gave up. I am so happy that I did. I paid twice as much and bought a different Swiss timepiece that I love. I have barely taken it off over the last 3 weeks. Plus it's a bit more stealth and not many people would know it's an expensive bit of kit!
Jenni, I have started to see some steel references come down to sensible prices - explore, explorer ii, datejust 126300. But until steel are retail or close I still think a lot of dealers are deluding themselves. Great video as always.
This is just heading back to pre-pandemic. You won’t get Daytona, Sub colour, OP celebration, GMT Pepsi & Skydweller steels at Retail unless you are a very valued customer with history. Everything else is very achievable. Rolex will always be the watch of choice for the aspirational. Their precious business will get hit because of the whole dealer experience and having nothing to sell when people wanted them. They are the opposite of Omega who are very good with their buyers but watches aren’t as desirable and the brand doesn’t have the same status.
You have to have good finances to put out around 35 k for a non daily driver gold watch. This are all models you add to your collection as second or third watch.
Jenni first thing is that the Rolex watches for the flippers are steel watches like Submarines,Daytonas , GMTs , 41 Perpetual especially green blue, Motif and Day just 41 blue ,green and Wimbledon are not available at all nor they will put you on the waiting list worldwide rest of the Rolex watches were not flippers watches but got attention for the new flippers but now it have died down
I have to tell you that the tittle is a bit "click baity". The prices are one thing but in general, availability remains scarce of the popular models. I am in the market, but I am no about to pay more than retail for a less than premium experience. I want to buy from the AD, get my expresso, be pampered and treated like a customer. Not buy from a phone or a web page for more money and questionable warranty. If the grey market dropped 20-30% under AD, maybe, but not more for a used piece.
In frnace for a simple oyster perpetual 41mm black i am in wait list,ad tell me minimum 8 month...so...i would like to believe you but reality is a fact, waitlist exist...in france at list
When will you TH-cam reviewers learn that the ⌚ does not begin and end with Rolex? Time to celebrate for overpriced and underdeveloped timepieces that were subject to an artificial supply shortage? As said by many comments, there are great options elsewhere. Quite frankly, Rolex makes a great ⌚ but not at MSRP and certainly not above MSRP. With or without waitlists, however, Glashütte Original, Zenith, Grand Seiko, and Jaeger-LeCoultre will receive my patronage well before Rolex. I can only speak dor myself when I say that I cannot drink the Kool-Aid from Geneva.
people keep saying prices are on a free fall - but using that idiotic temporary price spike in early 2022 as the starting point. There's always gonna be a premium for the Pepsi and Daytonas because Rolex is still keeping their production less than the normal black Submariner. There's no way you can get them for retail unless you buy other stuff or you can make them believe that you will be buying future stuff regularly.
I wanted a submariner, then an oyster perpetual so badly back in 2018. Now, I only like the day date or yacht master but not willing to pay 10s of thousands for Rolexes. I would guess many ppl feel just like me. We prefer other watches now.
Don't think that Rolex hasn't been through price drops on secondary market before ... if need be, once they have set their prices, they will just cut production if need be. Rolex is a tough company and they routinely outsmart everybody.
I think many people are done with Rolexes games where you can’t buy the watch model you want, you have to be put on a waitlist which is basically a way for them to discriminate against you and tell you you can’t buy the premium models and if you’re “lucky” they offer you a lesser model. Treating customers this way has turned many people away so for my money if I was in the market, I would just buy an Omega of my choosing instead.
Offical dealers don't discount any swiss branded watches in my country. I find prices are fixed in the EU. I have bought well below retail from non official retailers and over next couple of years i can see them picking up more Rolex and will pass on the discounts where offical dealers wont.
The Rolex hoarding by Ads and grey dealers is real i literally got into a fist fight with my own uncle ( he owns a watch store not saying which but its in southern California ) i went to 2 Rolex Ads just looking for a Explorer nothing to crazy and got turned away and even made fun of, so I thought F it ill ask my uncle to sell me one and ill get a discount ( i didn't want to lean on family initially as the explorer is my dream gada watch ) and MY UNCLE PULLED THE SAME SHIT , to make matters worse my cousin laughed and showed me they had 7 explorers just sitting in storage and they had 2 in the display case and guess how many people were on the waitlist JUST FKN 3 . now I'm banned from most of my family get together cuz i knocked out my uncle ( i couldn't control myself the fact my own uncle/godfather would pull this kind of crap on me broke me ) . ended up buying a Sinn 556A Rs instead . The money is not the problem for me but the fact they playing scammy games that is a big turn off for me from buying atm, and I don’t buy from stinky grey market literally their booths smell not classy like the botiques AD in the malls. And you literally never know when they change parts and sell you one that’s been molested. I can wait till it’s available in the AD stores again.
I bought my first Rolex 10 years ago from the AD, back then I could have saved 15-20% buying form the grey market had I done so I would have constantly doubted its authenticity and it would also have caused me anxiety taking it to Rolex for a service. I think these are serious concerns for all these people who have bought watches from the grey market. How would someone prove to the grey dealer several years later that the watch which has been verified super fake hasn't been switched by the buyer. All my watches were bought by me from the AD.
There continues to be an acute shortage of the popular tool watches at Rolex. The dealers only get the simple watches they can't see as easily. Those are the discountable watches but not anything I want.
So the Rolex's I should be able to afford at retail are still overpriced, but the Rolex's which are out of my budget are "a great deal". Oh the irony...
I must do something wrong. I went to my AD in Germany multiple times, told my story, gave 4 major reasons why I want a Rolex, and I even offered to purchase 4-5.000 EUR in jewelry. Still on this d**n wish list and no calls. Soon I will make a Rolex youtube channel and tell my sad story. I have never in my long life experienced such a fuzz. I'm not interested in a relationship with my AD and still I have to pretend I want this relationship so much. I'm interested in purchasing the watch and not in the AD at all. Rolex has created a monster in the attempt to keep the brand exclusive. Customers literately have to "step over their own shadow" to get these timepieces.
Sorry but this is quite an inaccurate title, at least for the entire US market. I've been on a list at 3 ADs in NYC that I have history with and past Rolex purchases; for an Exp II and an OP 34 or 36. Also on a few lists out of state (I travel a lot for work). I keep in touch with the sales people I know at them and I don't get pushy or ever flip them. If you're pursuing any SS Rolex at a dealer, it's still quite rare and difficult to wait under 12 months minimum. Just because the gray market is dropping a bit to normal levels doesn't mean the AD's are now giving "discounts" or are flush with stock. They're not, they won't.
@@shonz88 Maybe you're just wrong... because Costco is NOT an authorized Rolex dealer. As I said, I've purchased 2 new Rolexes from two different Rolex AD's, so I'm guessing it's not a likability issue. I like her YT page/feed, but let's be honest, the title is click bait and not accurate.
How are Omega waitlist doing these days? I hear Omega owned boutiques in central London are promising wait list pieces if you buy a couple of shop window ones at list. Tut Tut, naughty Omega 🤫🙄

@@alfieakaronaldoggot mine from Omega. But the AD I don’t use anymore, because they are full of B.S and want to push jewellery, have received two since 2020 the Omega ambassador told me. I was having a deja vu moment too...@@ahha6304
Isn't this like buying a Lamborghini because the market is depressed and it only costs $50000? I'm really interested, how many viewers have the money to buy the gold ones discussed here?
I would argue, not many.
I bought a Rolex GMT Master 2 "Rootbeer" for 4% over RRP ... but no way am I buying full gold.
I'd rather buy other watches with the budget
Thanks for the reupload.... solid information!!!!
Interesting perspective, it's all about smart shopping! 💡👍
Finally all you “investors” will hit the road and leave the watch market to us true enthusiasts
Thanks for this snapshot. Helpful information. Keep us posted!
Rolex need to stay in their lane and stop pretending to be something they’re not
Back in 2016, not only OP was available, can even got it at discount
Like many others we knew waitlists would end and I expect prices to even fall below retail with discounts for some models.
Nice to see you again Jenni thanks for the information
I like Rolex too. I just dont want to spend 10 to 20 grand for a SS sub..
Good recovery, Jenni!
Nice video, Jenni ! I liked it
I went to the Rolex store at Geneva last week.
Just bought pagani design . Brilliant
What website are you on? Thanks 😊
116520 black...good buy?
Rolex are very nice everyday watches. But I gave up. I am so happy that I did. I paid twice as much and bought a different Swiss timepiece that I love. I have barely taken it off over the last 3 weeks. Plus it's a bit more stealth and not many people would know it's an expensive bit of kit!
New Unworn Submariner Date Yellow Gold 126618LB 2K under retail price?? Where do I sign?
I was in my AD and they had all the full gold models in the window and for sale there and then....
Woher bekomme ich Listenpreise von Patek Philippe und Audemars Piguet?
Just type the exact reference number on Google and add "retail price" next to it.
Price increases can be also due to a slow Asian market and a vacant Russian market.
Last one is my favourite ❤
Think you don’t understand retailers are not allowed to give discounts as they will lose franchise rights with Rolex.
So still no chance for destro gmt and panda daytona.
Excellent video which sooths our soul. Hugs for you pretty lady
Exchange rate sucks! I’m in Australia so these €30k and €40k watches are actually nearer $50 and $60k for me😢
Great information! Thank you.
Wait lists are dead cos they were FAKE
Rolex didn't act this way 20 years ago, I don't know why they changed.
You have to have good finances to put out around 35 k for a non daily driver gold watch. This are all models you add to your collection as second or third watch.
Jenni first thing is that the Rolex watches for the flippers are steel watches like Submarines,Daytonas , GMTs , 41 Perpetual especially green blue, Motif and Day just 41 blue ,green and Wimbledon are not available at all nor they will put you on the waiting list worldwide rest of the Rolex watches were not flippers watches but got attention for the new flippers but now it have died down
The 2 tone explorer would be really cool if it was 40mm
I have to tell you that the tittle is a bit "click baity". The prices are one thing but in general, availability remains scarce of the popular models. I am in the market, but I am no about to pay more than retail for a less than premium experience. I want to buy from the AD, get my expresso, be pampered and treated like a customer. Not buy from a phone or a web page for more money and questionable warranty. If the grey market dropped 20-30% under AD, maybe, but not more for a used piece.
More than a bit clickbaity lol
In frnace for a simple oyster perpetual 41mm black i am in wait list,ad tell me minimum 8 month...so...i would like to believe you but reality is a fact, waitlist exist...in france at list
For example the Tudor Pélagos Titanium is an amazing watch, mine has taken 27 sec in 3 months…. You cannot go wrong with it!
Rolex does make some beautiful watches but I am not a fan of waitlists and the price points for what you are actually getting.
Still 1-2 years for a Sub in my area.
I can only speak dor myself when I say that I cannot drink the Kool-Aid from Geneva.
kept a gmt and 22" airking, and traded a 2tone DJ41 for a rose gold dlc grande Reverso 976 + 5k. which is crazy. glad I didn't keep it
people keep saying prices are on a free fall - but using that idiotic temporary price spike in early 2022 as the starting point.
I like rolex watch ...tnx for sharing
Rolex sells a million watches a year. Rolex "scarcity" has always been complete BS
I prefer the white metal ones.
Fk Rolex and their BS games and ALL THE ADS and GREY DEALERS you guys have ruined a beautiful hobby and many dreams .
Rolex has burned & lot of people over the last 4 years, that could have easily afforded their watches at retail price. Now they look elsewhere
My AD laughed at me when I told that waitlists are dead and I want a discount. He told me 'ain't gonna happen anytime soon'.
So true
There continues to be an acute shortage of the popular tool watches at Rolex. The dealers only get the simple watches they can't see as easily. Those are the discountable watches but not anything I want.
watching a live stream last night they were very umpleasant, said you had given up, well, happy new year and knickers to those clowns
Your missing somethin. The two tone explorer and the blue / gold sub are unpopular watches. Nod a good comparison.
So the Rolex's I should be able to afford at retail are still overpriced, but the Rolex's which are out of my budget are "a great deal". Oh the irony...
PLUG! ask your dealer for THE PLUG 😂
When the YM gets down to 5k I might buy one
Then why don't you just pay 1-2k more and buy from grey market?
Just got a call for a Sub from an APR 2020 request..... almost 4 years.
What’s with the click bait pic ?
Rolex was never available at Costco before, and now it is. Maybe you’re just an unlikeable/annoying person, and they don’t want to sell to you……..
Depend on what you want..? If you want a Snoopy, good luck.
@@BufanMuayThai Exactly that.
You will not get one from an independent AD if Omega are selling them all through their own boutiques after you pay list for a couple of normally highly discountable pieces.
All those loyal Omega customers outside of London being strung along and kicked in the teeth.
Imagine if Rolex did that 😂
@@alfieakaronaldoggot mine from Omega. But the AD I don’t use anymore, because they are full of B.S and want to push jewellery, have received two since 2020 the Omega ambassador told me. So independent has received some. He then also told me they won’t receive anymore Snoopy’s.
I haven’t purchase any Omega watches that can be discounted, so that wasn’t the case in my experience. Just as an example, I got the second Seaweed my Omega boutique received, so even that was then a watch people was on waitlist for. I have other Omegas, but regarding popularity, this is the ballpark, so no discount for sure at the time I purchased them.
I was told candidates are evaluated by the boutique and who ever is responsible for Omega in the region or country. Purchase history wasn’t the main factor for me. I know of people with 10 times the amount of Omegas I have, who hasn’t been allocated a Snoopy. Coolest watch ever made…
Hmm another rolex video .. an in love with JLC ultra thin and Polaris enamel dial watches
Just buy what u like as long as u can find the best deal for it.
Just like COVID, the watch (particularly Rolex) and auto markets are making us question our lifestyle and expectations. I feel like a fool for initially buying into the hype.
Gen z are not old enough yet. Just wait. When they get older they will want them. That’s what happened to me. Once I was financially stable and made a good salary I became interested in the finer things in life.
Authorized Rolex AD isn't giving a discount ever.... and the models selling on the grey that are still fetching a premium hes gonna horde........yes still......but whos counting?
Hey Jennie...
What's up with the clickbait?
You didn't mention the Pepsi 1267BLRO at all.
I have a spend history and no Profesional model, I keep asking my AD fir a GMT , a SM, something, but he keeps acting like it will be impossible and I have to wait. I've been waiting 2-3 years. It's a joke.
