Even if I could Afford whatever watch I wanted, There isn't a watch made that is worth the OUTRAGEOUS prices they ask. Not unlike these people that buy apple products, way overpriced for what they are... It's a Phone, just like that item on your wrist, it's a watch, and the $10 watch or the $200 phone are going to do exactly what they are bought for. BRAGGING RIGHTS that is all it is.

@@vadimdon i do not recall 126610ln's grey price ever dipping below 11000 usd (current msrp plus my local sales tax) on the grey, though at the time of launch of 126610ln, 116610ln (around 8-9k new in 2018) was 11 to 13k, beaten down naked 16610ln (around 5k new in 2005 or so) being around 9-10k. Only reason i remember this price relatively thoroughly is because I actually got my 126610ln at AD 2.5 years or so, with one month wait, but seriously considered going grey during that time (and did with a different rolex during the wait). fyi the out the door price for 126610ln was 10k in 2021, and the delta between each generation of subs are very noticeable (116610ln and 16610ln), so i say waiting did pay off.

I’m happy to see the Rolex grey market pricing adjust down. I was never going to pay well over the retail. I was able to purchase from Rolex ADs an OP41 blue dial late last year, and recently an Explorer II black dial. Although still not easy to buy at retail due to limited supply from the crown, it seems the flippers and speculators have dried up a bit. At least that’s according to the Rolex AD I was dealing with. At this point, only the steel GMTs, Skys, Subs, and Daytona's can be quickly and easily flipped for a guaranteed profit - everything else is a wash so prices will drop and inventory will go back up. However, the ADs are smart, they are still holding inventory of nearly ALL models to try and keep the facade of unattainability going...

I recently purchased an AP RO 15300st from an owner who had to lose 20k in order to sell the watch. So… yeah, I can definitely see more price drops for overhyped brands and models.
Rolex AD’s mistreatments and manipulative methods have led many real enthusiasts turning their attention to other high horology brands that offer more value for the money (GP, JLC, Blancpain, Moser, Bulgari, GS, etc)

I think the general trend is that only the really unusual Rolex models and some of the true heavy hitter releases will remain above retail. When I say "heavy hitters" I mean the models that Rolex produce very sparingly i.e. you basically have to be invited to buy one. I can see the vast majority of the Rolex catalogue either trading at retail or slightly below, as the supply chain issues resolve themselves and availability improves. Yes, Rolex and other luxury brands will still remain an "asset", but most Rolex releases will stop being an investment asset class. Some will argue that there has simply been a "correction" to the Rolex market and that many releases are still trading well over retail. However, the fact is that the market has at best flat-lined or worst shows a downward trajectory. Sure you could wait it out and see, but there are much better growth markets to park your hard earned cash in at the moment.

i also speculate a seadweller 126600 43mm will soon come down below retail as well. My Ad SA, who has been extremely cautious, even snobby, when i was following up on my list, actually made it sound like I MAY have a chance of getting a seadweller in less than 6 month (normally i noticed this particular person does not quote any lead time at all), if I ask to be put on the list. They are great watches, but sadly, unless you are big wristed enough to only rock panerais, they clash too much with a submariner (esp. with that cyclops lens)

Loved your video - I for one purchased an Explorer two-tone above retail price because I really wanted the Explorer II Polar dial for my 50th Bday but was on the list. I paid $14k USD for it. I like it but I don’t love it…then this January I got the call from my AD for my EXP2, paid retail for it & I love i!! I think having access to more inventory at retail pricing for us mortals is what we are all hoping for!! Cheers!!🎉

4:57 yeah but that's for the current model, 226570. At 4:36 you reference the 216570 which is the previous model so of course that will be cheaper. But cant really compare the pre owned prices of that to the new MSRP of the current model. Massive differences between movements like 48 hour power reserve vs 70 which is why most are going for current model. Current model you can't find anywhere near the prices you mentioned unfortunately. However, for the previous and vintage models, those are decent prices.

I'm delighted by the idea of Rolex prices dropping: speculation on the grey market has ruined many people's attempts to buy one from an AD because the AD will 'value the relationship' they have with their regular flippers. It artificially pumps the price and produces scarcity where none need exist. I wanted a Sub since it's considered such an iconic diver's watch for actually, y'know, diving but ended up grabbing an equally iconic Doxa instead because, horror of horrors, you can actually just buy one from a dealer like a rational being.

Unlikely on hot models and discontinued collector editions. Rolex will adjust production down if need be. You will see demand drop off in recession hit countries but I don't think it will ever be enough to see something like a Daytona Steel fall much.

Buying any replaceable asset above current MSRP is madness. It has nothing to do with grey or Rolex - it has to do with impatient people with more money than sense. You can buy a (regular) Rolex at MSRP - you just have to wait - a pretty "first-world" problem. Limited or not easily replaceable assets can appreciate, which is why there are special editions when you like to do it differently (but you can't wear them - that devalues them). Some people made a ton in this silliness, but at the direct expense of those on the downside - this isn't business, it's just a transfer of wealth from the silly to the wise.

You are refering to the explorer 2 126570 and saying something about the retail price, there is no retail price for this watch, because the watch you are refering to, is the older model. The watch which retails at the AD is the reference 226570 (new movement). Therefore, it's a different watch, so please compare apples with apples..
