Wow that was amazing! To think of that little speakers still intact and the radio still working. It's little glimmers of hope like this which is going to keep you here dream alive when the tough Parts come along . What a great video. In a bus the headlight switch which is the first one on your right is very important. A lot of the wires go through it. You probably want to order a new one is stuck as that one is. You should go around and clean off all the terminals with a little Dremel tool and a wire brush. You could do them all on the fuse box. And all the ones on your headlight switch if you can get it to start working
I know! I was shocked that it worked. The radio in my 1972 Ford F250 didn't work so I just figured this one was not going to as well! I was pleasantly surprised! Thank you so much for the tips! It's nice to have someone with some expense to help out! You guys have a great channel! Keep moving forward!

@@CTmoog no I could never afford one unfortunately...if you do a decent restoration you will ten times your money.i know the American market is good,but in the UK a good one will make fortunes...
First thing to check on the "no crank" issue is the small wire at the starter. They were known to have poor connections due to road splash... and that was 50 years ago. BTW, there are no harness junctions in a VW. It's a straight run from the ignition switch back to the starter. The problem is always voltage drop because 6 volt systems are VERY sensitive just due to the lower voltage in the first place. Missing 2 volts is like having a dead battery. EVERY connection must be pristine!

The radio knobs as buttons are out there. Maybe pick up a few radios and use them for parts. I use to fix up old tube car radios, yours works, so you're well on your way.

The initial start was a nail-biter-like my reluctant lawnmower today that needed four strong pulls to get going after five moist and cold months in the garden shed. Those VW's run a positive ground? I don't know much about them but my dad owned only VW's when i was a kid. Got lots of family pics of us with those old cars. Being the youngest I got to sit on top of the hot engine in the back of our VW squareback. Remember sitting on my dads lap steering his Yellow Beetle with black stripping! Old times, aye!
Just the fact that the radio worked made the video. I bet the two lights on the dash are oil pressure and charge?? It's a 6 volt positive ground?? any plans on converting it to 12 volt??

Hi! What's the plan with the bus? Full restoration? Original look? Or rat rod /barn find look? So much to fix on it, rust and all, I think it will be a long project.
Ct two more things CT ..... when you take the battery out do not put it directly on the ground,,,, Put it on a block put it on a piece of wood the ground draws like a magnet.... I'll take the charge right out of it make the battery junk..... Second thing when you finally put the bus together and you're ripping down the road!!!!!!!!!!! with it.... Put a kill switch.... On the battery negative side of the battery to turn off all power!!!!!!!!!!!! isolating switching like it's a disconnect switch...... You can Buy them on line lots of guys do that with their cars...... Also went there putting them away just because of a short or something goes wrong it could cause a fire take care JUNKMANDO

I had my 6v Saphire 1 radio upgraded with AM, FM and aux input. All stock. You turn it on and off to switch bands. Really cool!
