    A hand held impact screw driver works well on the screws holding the tins on, a lot of times the ones in the head will break, just drive out old screw and tap it, Your weather looks great . will be fun watching you dig into the motor--good camera work.

    Once you take out the gearbox. It's going to be in one location until you can get it back in you won't be able to roll it around anymore. Also you're going to want to take out the whole shift Rod Tube and clean it and put on the new bushings and little shuttlecock things. Make sure you're already spraying the shift Rod coupler now. I would not be surprised if you end up having to cut it off. Those things get seized on there. It's the coupler that connects the front shift rod with the back shift rod

    • @CTmoog
      @CTmoog  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Matt! Thanks for the tips man! This one took a hit or was moved around in the junk yard. The spring plate is bent on the passenger side. The engine and transmission mounts are busted as well. I'll take a close look at the shift rod coupler! Thanks man! Very Helpful!

    My advice to you is to initially use rust converter for the whole car... a couple of liters 2-3 pints would suffice - all the rust that is on top will be transformed into black dust, it is easier to clean it later by sanding it down, it fill literally fall off and you will not have to work as hard. For the heavy corroded areas you can replace the element by cutting welding or in some cases (small holes) you can use tin or lead to block the hole, tin and lead can be sanded down to size with little effort.

    Alternate name: Wally for the wallpaper business. I am having a hard time judging how much rust you really have here. Most of it looks like surface rust. I don't see horrible rust-through? The rockers and lower rear corners look crusty. What about the rest? The doglegs look solid. Hope you do a video just focussing on state of the metal. Keep the videos coming. It's a great project bus.

      Hey Rick! That is a great name! I really like that idea! I will consider that one as well! Yes, it does have some rust issues in some areas. I will do a video on focus on the metal so you can get a better look at what we have to work with here! Stay tuned man! More to come!

    A transmission jack is ideal for dropping VW engines. Might be a wise investment. Or build a platform to replace the saddle on your existing floor jack, but a tranny jack would be more stable.
    BTW, try some Seafoam DeepCreep on those rusted fasteners. Works great!👍🏻

    Next time you go to put a engine on the stand. Remove the adapter from the stand and bolt it to the engine. It makes bolting it to the engine much easier. Then you just slide the stand onto the adapter. Much easier then fighting with the stand trying to get it lined up while starting the bolts.

    Nicely done. I'm always surprised when you get close up with parts on your van and they dont just crumble to dust. Up close they actualy dont look that bad compared to the bus. Either way your one more step closer. You haven't said what actualy do you intend to do with the van. Daily driver, build as you go,??? I'm sure it will be awsome but a plan gets you a lot farther and adds to channel drama...errrrr excitement!!!
