    I've been waiting so long for engineering all my friends have been used for pastas and pizzas :(
    Very excited to finally move on from soft death. Hopefully this makes ships persist much longer!
    I do think players are keen to know more about how this affects general gameplay in industrial situations and long term. Can't wait to experiment!

      @M4xCh3rry It's definitely a huge part of what will make this a proper and engaging multiplayer game.
      But for me, I'm still waiting on a proper economy and the Quanta system for NPCs. That's when the game will really transition into the bare-minimum of what we've been promised.

    One thing i feel we desperately need is multi crew bed logging. If we're going to be repairing our ships and traveling further and further out into other systems we need to bring back crew logging so its easy to hop in and out with sessions with friends or orgs

      I think when they run into the next iteration of long term persistence they're gunning for people logging back in wherever they logged off. I know that's an end goal, and logging in a bed is just supposed to provide a rest bonus at that point.

    I hope CIG has it when you are using the interface screen, you can use the keyboard also to change and manage power settings and not just use the mouse and point and click. It would make it a little easier.

      Those systems were old and not compatible with meshing.

    More customizability and tunability for the ships is awesome! Being able to micromanage every system in the ship will go a long way to make ships feel more like they're yours. I'm looking forward to when this great stuff gets in the game.

      No. This will be better. Skyrim is widely instanced, all meaningful interiors are disconnected from the open world. Here they are not. So it will be better than anything Bethesda has done.

    Engenering is very important for multicrew ships. In future it should nearly be impossible for a ligth figther to kill a big ship like a hammerhead. May to destroy the engine or turrent of hammerhead by a light figth, but to kill ot totaly.

      An engine kill is a kill.
      Once your engines are down you can’t move, and they can’t encase the engines in armor. Firing up the line of the ship from the engines will just kill it by taking out the power core-and that’s gonna be the least armored route cus it can’t have exterior hull plating to protect it on that trajectory.
      Also, lol, heal the ship. This clearly isn’t on combat time scales. Once your engines are down it’s not like the fighter stops shooting.
      If they model the bullet paths, your engineer will probably just get killed as the fighter shoots through the engines to the core.
      Without flak-meaningful anti-smaller than yourself weapons-we will continue to see large ships defenseless against small ones.
      We need flak, a proximity fuse aoe weapon. Lowest dps for its size to make it bad against equal size ships, but good at hitting ships smaller than yourself. The Hammerhead needs it to fight fighters, the Javelin will need it to fight Corsairs.

      @@piedpiper1172 I mean, I'd point out that in most of the ships the engines do not actually present a direct physical path toward the power generators, especially directly up the engine port. Additionally, only firing up the engine exhaust may be harder than you think in terms of keeping lined up without getting shot down. Though the port would likely not really be armored, engine nacelles in the game for many ships actually appear pretty well armored. Relative to the size of the nacelles on the hammerhead, for instance, the thruster ports are small, recessed, and clearly still have some armoring.
      That said I've often been a fan of introducing a flak gun @ size 4-5 specifically.

      @@luistigerfox Once the engines are dead, the ship is increasingly helpless. If it means having to take out turrets, that’s easier when engines are out too.
      Any component the fighter takes out, the engineer has to stand directly next to when repairing: aka, where the bullets from the fighter are.
      Precision mode works against big ships here. It’s very easy to place shots exactly where you want on a ship that’s not moving. It’s also good at hitting engines even on the better protected nacelles. But plenty of ships do have giant engine banks that are incredibly easy to hit.
      It’s also easy to do it while continuing to corkscrew. And they just buffed precision mode, it’s only what, 15% dps loss now? That doesn’t even offset the effective dps gain provided by the improved accuracy.
      Time to kill on a hammerhead for a lone gladius is currently pretty high, so I doubt this will even increase the time. After all, 0 hp components cause their own problems like fires, overloads, etc.
      Meanwhile, the fighter is melting through the armor to knock out systems.

    Think the ship view for the engineering terminal should have a 2D view, where you can swap between floors and exterior. Sometimes, 3D models will have too many overlapping components.

    After i come home from a long day at work, i get myself a glass of home-made lemonade from the fridge and sit down to unwind a bit and watch the latest ISC episode....at no point had i ever even imagined to be greeted by such a fresh, shiny and, quite frankly, blinding new interFACE in the first 3 seconds.       and give us extra exit... literally just a ladder like on the Zeus. Because if the fire brakes out back there and those little extinguishers are not enough, without opening the cargo bay you are done. Not to mention opening this huge of an opening every time means somebody uninvited may get in. That's not the case for like 99% of other ships.

    Criticaly failing powerplants being able to explode spectacularly.
    I am very much reminded of the Halo:Reach Mission "Long Night of Solace", where a Quantum Drive analogue component is stripped from a warship and carried into an enemy capital ship being repurposed as a very powerful bomb.
    This makes me think that shops selling highly explosive components at a low cost will be an IED maker's joy..

    And now, just go crazy with components variaty (withing universe lore), a powerplant with huge power output but similar huge heat generation... other powerplant with slow response time, but excelent fuel efficency, etc. let us decide and test what is better for our ships.

    Getting strong FTL vibes from engineering gameplay. That's a good thing! In Dutch we have a saying: "better well stolen than poorly implemented". FTL Was an indie spacecraft resource management game from 2012.

    It’ll never make sense to have multiple people unless that brings enough combat power to justify not just running two ships.
    Any of these out of combat chores can be done via EVA and such for two ships.
    If you make these chores so intrusive that they literally stop combat, all you’ll do is reinforce the “use the smallest ships for everything” meta.
    We want people on our ships. Give them enough combat power for them to not be wasting their time.

    I would love to see engineering play into hacking gameplay in the future. Maybe you can sneak aboard a cap ship and avoid guards to hack into the engineering terminal to sabotage the ship. That would be awesome.

    Engineering gameplay definitely looks like it's pretty involved. I guess for the 99% of my solo gameplay time, I shouldn't touch any ships bigger than a Freelancer or C1, lest I get overwhelmed with my ship breaking apart too much on me. Good thing single seaters and medium ships are my favourite class of ships then.

    My question is, will the AI also have to change components on their ships or will they be cheat ? I can't imagine the AI doing all this on their ships. The game loses dynamics, if it loses dynamics it gets boring. Do not forget that a video game to be fun must be dynamic. With the loadout it has been shown that it has become so tedious that many have stopped transporting. Don't make tedious the most fun part of the game, which is flying and fighting.

      Lmao the game is not meant to be about fighting... they're literally building a life sim MMO in a scifi universe... fighting is only a small part of that, and it will be optional once we have high security star systems. This complexity is also meant for game balance so people can't solo larger ships well, thus creating an incentive to work with a crew. In addition, NPCs are literally planned to be able to do things around ships and in the universe in general...SQ42 development has been about that in a large part, they made NPCs dynamic and not scripted. Please do your research before making weird and ignorant assumptions

    I have been looking forward to this system to unleash my inner Scotty aboard my Polaris. We still need to be able to refuel fighters in the bay. Give us a fuel hose port on the hangar wall or floor to hook up to the ships fuel port and adapt the refueling interface from the Starfarer as a view in the engineering panel or a new panel by the hose port. That would also be an easy solution to update the other ships with hangars like the Carrack and 890j.

      They did mention it in the video, albeit not by name - shots have to 'penetrate' the ship to damage the components (merely doing 'hull damage' will be irrelevant now), and 'Armour' will make it harder for shots to penetrate (so you have to weaken / remove armour using e.g. energy weapons to slag it)... this was previously referred to as 'Physics Based Damage', and later subsumed into Maelstrom.

      I want multicrew to work, and this system is nice for immersion, but ffs we need flak. We need a weapon whose sole purpose is “hit ships smaller than yourself.”
      The Hammerhead needs it to hit fighters, the Javelin will need it to hit Corsairs. We have to have flak for multicrew to ever be viable.

      @@logicalChimp Well, that isn't the entirety of maelstrom. Once that's in, ship hulls are supposed to break open and break apart much more dynamically. Meaning that hull damage can still be of value, in that it could cause structural failure of the ship. They have said at times that with Maelstrom they want the chance for a large ship to break in half, for instance, and the rear half of the ship is still powered and such, but the front is obviously not due to no longer being connected to the power source.
      So, catastrophic damage could be possible without direct component damage using maelstrom. Though attacking components directly makes more sense.

      Lmao larger ships were never meant to be pay to win and soloable.... anything bigger than a Connie IS meant to be a time and money sink for game balance, you're not meant to be able to solo things past that size without incurring a ton of negatives. So, either play smaller ships or leave

      What you said was true at kickstarter launch, but it’s clearly not now.
      Even with engineering this brings no multicrew incentive. This video is just a laundry list of out of combat chores. One person can do them in a quantum drop out point, and two people playing together will just solo two ships and do the chores the same way.
      Unless and until multicrew actually increases combat power it’ll continue to be meaningless.
      Would I rather man 1 2xS3 turret on a Connie, or just pilot a Corsair? The gulf is so large that it’s utterly absurd.

      No, they don´t. The bigger the ship the more work it will be. Simple. Logical.
      I´d be more concerned about various smaller ships. Especially those that have a hard time carrying repair parts or have no capacity to do so whatsoever. A ship like, say, a Freelancer can carry a replacement quantum drive and other parts. Try that with a Gladius.
      AI shards and ai crew will help here - provided they manage to implement those in a timely manner too. Otherwise people without a player crew readily available will have a hard time operating anything beyond a Constellation on their own.

      @@piedpiper1172 You don't understand...NPC crew will have wages, so a solo player will only be able to afford maybe 3 max... whatever the actual number it won't be enough for things bigger than a Connie or maaaaaaaybe a Hammerhead; AI blades (automated turrets) will be relatively expensive to install, and they will be able to get damaged or even destroyed and be a sunk cost you aren't getting back...plus, when someone uses distortions or EMPs against you then the AI blades will be able to be turned off temporarily!
      Thus, ships larger than a Connie will increasingly become less and less friendly to solo to the point where it becomes a massive money and time sink (to the point where you can't afford it), as well as losing efficiency AND capability

      I have a couple of friends who love how star citizen looks but get too motion sick sitting in turrets or have vertigo or something, I tell them that it is more than flying or being in turrets. Are there a lot of players that would like to be flying or manning a turret, absolutely. There are also a fair few that would rather do something else besides those.

    Please, we need hireable NPC crew/indentured servants or multi crew will never be realistically obtained by most players. Npc crew should be hirable and relieved by real players when they are available. Given the hours required to play SC and how much idle down time crew are going to undergo, npc will be needed.
    Good revenue for you too. Hire X month NPC crew contracts or indentured servitude as pledges until they are hirable ingame

    who's ready for SC to become unplayable for another 6 months when this comes out?i feel like the effort they are putting in to the game could be used in other areas for stuff that was promised years ago such as ships and things like that stuff. They are going to make it where you cant do pvp and stuff like that solo anymore and are going to have to have crew or AI to fix your ship and use the scu space for extra components that if your ship blows up they are gone with the ship. Seems like this is cool for corvette class ships but not so much for smaller ships.
