Mark is the best radio presenter of his generation. He loves the music, has great empathy with his audience, a great sense of humour and can, erm well, er, speak quite well usually.
Have recently picked up a 2nd hand copy of Radcliffes book Thank you For The Days and in it he mentioned this episode in his life. Had to check it out for real. Great stuff!!!
Loved reading about this in Mark's book 'Thank You For The Days' and, given that Mark has met and interviewed Shane a couple of times and quite hit it off, I'm sure Shane would find this hilarious. Big fan of Radcliffe, what a lovely bloke.
Just read the chapter "The Day I Was On Stars In Their Eyes" from Mark's Thank You For The Days autobiography so I had to look this up. (Cracking read by the way)
@MissAlabaster Yeah, I was reading his book, which is a very good read, and I read that he was Shane MacGowan on Stars In Their Eyes, and I thought, 'This I have to see.' and he doesa brill impression :)
Is it just me or does Mark make a very subtle change of lyrics. The original has a line that goes "And a man from Westmeath called Malone" and i'm sure that in this version he sings "And a man from Westmeath called Mahone" Sounds like a shameless plug to me Mark!!!! Seriously though if you can check out The Family Mahone, awesome live performance and a great laugh. Just don't drive.
....'Set the controls for..wherever you are' ...orrghh yeshh.....Mark Radcliffe is a big hero of mine, though he looks more like Dennis Pennis in this clip....

Hilarious but great performance. Nice of ITV to show some good entertainment for once and a while.Happy Birthday for today Mark and have a good one!
If you turn the volume down completely and get ' a design for life ' into your head it makes more sense..James Dean Bradfield of course
Thanks so much for posting this. I had heard about it but was unable to see it, because I am in the U.S.A. Thsnks very much I really appreciate it.
And he won, nice to see this again, was a laugh the first time and still is.
I was in the audience for this. Great night.

Legend. Used to love Mark & Lard, and the Shirehorses. Radcliffe & Marconie is good tho.
Mark was in Skrewdriver, the greatest band in the world!
great to see it, as I missed it on TV. Thanks.
Radcliffe's radio shows are awesome! :) Really funny and great music.
phronsias, shane was actually born in tunbridge wells, so hes london irish. thats why he concentrates a lot of his songs about the irish in london.
He was born in Kent while his parents were vacationing in England. He was raised in Ireland and moved to England when he was 7 or so. ❤

Saturday 23rd December 2006
Shane actually said he loved it...

First class job Mark... so it is.. :-)
Shane probably saw this & pished his togs laughing like the rest of us!
it'd have been funny as hell if he'd been john cooper clarke and done chicken town live on tv. imagine the complaints.
Read Radcliffes book "Entertainment Diary of a Rock and Roll Nobody" Hilarious
Mark Radcliffe who used to play for Skrewdriver.
He briefly played drums for the first version of the band, which had no racist content.
Do you have the results? I know he won, but I wouldn't mind seeing his reaction.
it whould be better if he got drunk before going on stage
Apparantly he'd had a few - just reading his book ;-)
tunbridge wells to be precise
Sorry man but I've never heard of Family Mahone...been living in The States 10 yrs so i must have missed out.
I was havin' a drrriink then!
ha ha
as mark says in his book
a bloke youve never heard of
doing a bloke youve never heard of
He sounds more like Ronnie Drew! hahaha!
Like the west country twang!
Matthew Kelly is looking well isn't he?
Obviously went straight over your head. Spend a little time listening to old Radio one stuff by mark and lard and you'll soon understand.
whose the blond?
....could you back off the mike a bit please!!!!
Gosh, you don't make fun of or laugh at Shane MacGowan...

This is the worst thing i have ever, ever, ever, ever seen.
BLASPHEMOUS!!
Sacrilege
Shite
I just hope Shane didn't have to watch that rubbish..terrible attempt at an Irish accent which Shane doesn't even have..sounded nothing like the Man.
