    What would YOU do with J♥ J♦ preflop?
    Your Stack (HJ): 7,722
    Their Stack (UTG): 6,092
    Pot: 323
    UTG raises to 299
    A) Fold
    B) Call
    C) Raise to … ?

    • @andrewtancowny5926
      @andrewtancowny5926 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      C usually but depends heavily on the utg players likely range.. and how likely I am to get squeezed if I call and by what player types. My sizing would be around 900-1050 maybe a bit bigger if I’m live and there are passive players likely to cold call making it multi-way. Another thing to think is this villain prone to rip it in? And what would that range likely look like?

    • @jppagetoo
      @jppagetoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      2.5x raise from UTG is a usually a strong open. so I could be facing a big pair or Ax, Kx, KQ. From middle position I could easily be squeezed and would hate a re-raise from the button or BB. So it's either fold, which is a bit nitty or raise to fold out the weak and put me in position. In this case either be strong and go with a 6BB raise, or fold and be a nit. I hate JJ from middle position...

    • @jppagetoo
      @jppagetoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to say I disagree with his thoughts that this is a call sometimes. I don't care about UTG player type, I care about the action to come behind me. By just calling you are making it lucrative for those players to come in based on pot odds. I don't want to play jacks from middle position with 3+ players to the flop. The more players, the more vulnerable jacks are.
      I have a lot to learn. Am I wrong? If I am wrong... help me understand why I would just call.

    • @pallytime2156
      @pallytime2156 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Call. There are to many short stacks behind us to raise and we are getting a good price to set mine. Getting jammed on by one of the short stacks is going to suck (30BB per short stack is borderline push / fold for them) but if they jam we are ok letting go of our 2.5BB call. Also if everyone folds around to us from short stack jam we can consider a call.

    • @paulgibbons-keynotespeaker
      @paulgibbons-keynotespeaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Call - but depends on HUD stats if I have them... against someone who is 20pct plus UTG, probably raise...

    14:19 why a bet here and why this big? The flop favors the pre-flop callers range especially caller from bb. Checking with overpairs on the flop on a board texture that favors the range of your opponent is recommended iirc? Ontop of that the stack to pot ratio is huge which makes overpair a non premium holding especially on the flop? Villain could have any number of flush draws and straight draws.

    • @shay5129
      @shay5129 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a over pair. He checked, you bet. Probably ahead

  • @ruperthandley315
    @ruperthandley315 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    can someone please explain to me how I play an overpair of aces or kings on really really wet flop with low cards if middle position checks to me? Do I bet to build the pot and give draws the wrong price to call and get value from smaller overpairs? Or do I check to disguise my hand and keep the draws in as bluffs (and to avoid being checkraised). I know this is a specific question but any help would be appreciated 🙏

    It just seems like every time I slow play and bet half pot or less when I have a vulnerable overpair or top pair, every bad card comes on the turn like an over card, the flush card, or a card that puts something like a 678 on the board. Then the second I check back for pot control, it's a pot size bet back into my face. I do know that by potting it, they're only going to call with hands that are strong or have me beat. And if they raise a pot size bet, they almost always won't be bluffing. It's a paradox.

    A few years ago, I raised big with KK preflop and got a caller. The flop was dry. I c-bet in position and got called. He then shoved dark on the turn, which was an ace. I called, and he flopped the set. Had he seen the ace and then shoved, I likely would have put him on the ace and folded.

  • @jasonwalker5512
    @jasonwalker5512 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would like a 3 bet here. I personally like jacks because they are a hand that should give us our opponents strength. If we raise to let’s say 1200 then we are putting them in a spot where they are going to jam AA KK QQ and AK and AQ which any best we are flipping against. If we get a flat call then we are more likely up against 22’s-10’s as well as Ax suited maybe A10/9 off suit some suited and off suited Kings and even fewer Queens. We block Jack -x holding two in our hand so we should more than likely be ahead to the flop.

  • @paulpena5040
    @paulpena5040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow this is a great video love his teaching style.
    That last hand though. I dunno most players at low or medium stakes are loathe to NOT bet the queen when there are 3 hearts out there. And they are also scared of not betting the A for same reason. I suppose if he had exactly A heart in his hand he would play this way but you've shown absolutely NO aggression in this hand. Turning pairs or Kh X s into a bluff might happen 25 % of the time and that's all you need to break even.

    49:40 so…. were the “right” answers actually wrong w that trapped hand? was it the right move just bad “luck” or should we have answered/played differently? bc u say you were outplayed… which implies we didn’t play optimally. But you still mark your line as “correct” and don’t offer an alternative which implies we played optimally…
    so im not sure if i should be learning from your (potential) mistake or recognizing that sometimes we get trapped there and that’s just poker

    So many people at my local casino are always baffled when I bet top pair, or a slight over pair to a low board... I haven't ran it through the super computers, but I'm pretty sure betting when you're probably ahead is a good strategy.

    Looking forward to this.
    So I guess it would depend on live reads and blind levels.
    If he is a Fish who plays all kinds of hands from any position and the blinds are some place around 50/100, then I would 4 bet to 725.
    If he is a normal player playing a normal range, I would call.
    If he is a TAG or NIT, I would consider folding if there is action to my left. I say that here, but I think even then I call. I would want to see a flop. I would be cautious though. QQ-AA could make up a lot of his range. I’m not saying I would only set mine, but I would have a set mine mentality. I would call a reasonable C bet, and likely check back on the turn. The river is where I might go for thin value by assuming he has AK or AQ/AJ suited. So if those hands didn’t improve, I would bet. I might also bluff at an ace to rep AK if he has KK, but not usually.

    Yes Part two!!!!!!!!!!! 80 minutes.. My answer to the quiz. I would call. He RR against our early strong opening range. So hehas probably a strong polarized range. 4betting brings us nothing: he would fold worse hands and call or 5bet better hands. Basically we are set mining with a very strong hand. Most dangerous flop is one with three under cards. A, K high flops we can call 1 bet (or two when both bets are really small). Wait: I thought he was raising us on the big blind. This situation is between calling en raising. I think it is very close
