- Today I'm going to be answering one of the most common questions I get from my students... How do I exploit recreational players when deep stacked!
We're going to be discussing exactly that in this video that I made for my students on PokerCoaching.com! 3 of the main things we will be discussing are 1) How to take advantage of players that drastically overvalue strong (but non nutted) hands. 2) How to play against players who do not bluff catch enough. 3) How to exploit players that play poorly in multiway pots!

i'm the recreational that gets exploited.
I talk a lot and sometimes show nuts when they fold. Then they fold when I bluff but they don't know. But I don't bluff enough for sure. And I open bluffs quite a lot. However, many players think they are ahead when they are actually behind

I am a recreational player also! But I don’t take it personally. Instead, I use this to learn how not to get exploited, at least not as much! Knowing the strategies or potential strategies of others can be valuable. Plus, you can use the same strategies against other recreational players!
The BEST strategy is called GTU (game theory ultra). You limp EVERY hand preflop (fold to any raise), if you make it to the flop, if you flop the nuts you shove. If you don’t flop exactly the nuts, instant fold (never check as you may get trapped).
(NB, GTU is the strategy Jonathan uses himself but will not teach so he doesn’t get beaten by his students)

People often forget the point of poker is to extract chips from your opponents. Nothing else.
This is such a great video, I was one of those "this is a big deal" people in a recent $2500 WPT tourney, it was obvious my opponents were targeting me and knew i wouldnt rebuy. Lesson learned
It’s a shame you didn’t exploit that. Whenever I played in poker rooms where nobody knew me, I would play like I was scared, but what they didn’t know was that every time I reraised them with nothing they’d insta fold thinking I only played the nuts.
I’ve never played in a 2500 buy in though.

Best way to get a recreational’s money.
1. Give them AA
2. Flop the nuts
3. Put in as much money as possible after flopping the nuts when they have AA.

Easy game.
I did this to a guy last week when he had KK, flopped the nut flush in a 5 way pot, took the betting lead because I am never going to trust fish to bet, got raised lol, at that point I am thinking of Vegas and the ******* Mirage. So I flat...Check turn when K comes, he bets, I rip it in, he calls and shows KK with the 2nd nut flush draw...blank on the river, easy money!
I don't know if this really counts as an exploit but for me it is know you will occasionally fold the best hand to them just grossly over-valuing their hand (especially in multi-way pots) and be okay with that because yes you occasionally don't win a pot you "should" but you also occasionally win an extra 100+ BB off a completely unforced error that more than make up for missing the 25 BB pot.
@@Yerr1337 I'm not advocating being a nit. I'm advocating not tilting when you get 3-bet of the turn on a 3 flush connected board and come showdown the person who raised you had an overpair + flush draw and the 3-better had top 2 pair that they just assumed was the nuts ignoring the board state. Yes you should adjust after but same time that doesn't mean over-correcting.
I would recommend against playing poorly on purpose.

They will call HUGE bets with marginal hands on flop and turn.
the most important point that I think most people missed, when they're going to show you their nuts, just get out of the way

@@Michaelmarkss not bad at all first hand UTG kJ clubs flop two pair back door the flush three way action one all in almost tripled up first hand 300 buyin 😎 played a six hour session ended up 600 and change up . Not bad , played tight second day 300 buyin lost a 100 dollars with a set of jacks against a really bad back door straight called it a day . Total trip up 445 cpl slots on the way out the door accounted for the majority loss . All in all good trip. 👍

Depending on how many days u worked 750$ per day could be 175-250k per year. There’s less then like 10% of people making money like that.

Why doesn’t anyone talk about adjusting your range when the table is down to 3-5 players?
This video was designed for casino low stakes CASH games as well as tournaments.
Your range should not adjust too much, although the bunching effect is somewhat relevant. Just continue playing normal HJ ranges from the HJ, etc.
Short-handed games are the most fun, IMO.
Make yourself videos around 20-30 minutes more than that it’s LONG

If I have range and nut advantage on the flop but I happen to have flopped junk how often should I continue as a bluff?
Probably as you would play your nuts, assuming you are the aggressor.
Since a while ago I started watching all your videos( the free ones) when I’m done - I’ll buy the premium sub as well.
I’ll point out that my game improved a huge deal since this teaching videos.
Last night, in a tournament with only 1 rebuy available - I was out in less than 1 hour. How?
Playing with very bad players, calling, and more than that, all in with nothing but a draw in their hand. A lot of gamblers at my table (at least 4/9).
My hand 88 on the button.
UTG+1 raise to 4BB, HJ Call, CO Call, I raise to 9.5BB.
UTG+1( with J10) Call, everyone else folds. We are heads up.
Flop: K 8 2 rainbow
UTG+1 raise 12BB, I re-raise to 24BB
Turn: 9 (no flush possibility, only his up and down straight draw)
UTG+1 says “ALL IN”
(Easy call for me as I saw him in few previous hands doing the same with trash hand)
I Call. We are all in , all in.
Turn is a 7. He gets a straight.
I go re-buy. 20 minutes later happens exactly the same thing, exactly the same cards turn but this time I had QQQ on the flop, he raise all in on the turn waiting for a card for his straight (not up and down).
I’ll also point out that it doesn’t bug me so much the fact the I lost the buy-in money as it bugs me the fact that he went all in on the turn with nothing Knowing that he can’t bluff me or scare me of my hand as I re-raised him twice( preflop and on the flop).
To give another example:
Playing a tournament online, 85 000 entries, 4900 in the money.
I’m 9th in chips with Ks10s as BB, I called 6BB bet from UTG+1 (he had AQ off). He was also 6th in chips, around 350k more chips than me.
Flop: K 2 3
UTG+1 checked. At this point I put him on AQ/QQ/ or AA with a low %)
I raise 18BB and UTG+1 shoves.
I was around 90-95% sure that I’m not beat so I call.
Turn: 5
River:4
He gets a straight after on the board turned 4 perfect cards for him to get a straight.
This didn’t annoy me as much as this other’s guy all in with dust as he knew he cant bluff, scare me off my hand.
How else can I play against gamblers?
Any opinions will be much appreciated.
If you replay these hands pre shove 1000 times you will be up big, you got your money in good just short end of the variance stick not much else you can do
Rec player loses stack doesen't care, Low level pro loses stack got no dinner

Any advice would be welcomed, I play regular cash game with regular players.. I usually buy in around $300, most other players buy in/re-buy approximately $100-$200 .. there is 1 regular deep stack good player who’s in for $1,500- $2,000, if I manage to get to big buyers stack size how would you then go about your game? It’s happened a few times now and I’m struggling on strategy when I reach big stack as he’s not afraid of another big stack and seems to have my number.
I'd avoid him unless you have nut potential hands. No reason to put your hard earned stack at risk, when there are obviously easier foes at then table.
Then again he's probably more susceptible to a large Bluff if your story makes sense and you're willing to to risk it.

Well, just yesterday again I was told by a reg that I am too tight straight forward. That's the best image one could exploit. Even when they open my bluffs they don't remember them and i find it fascinating. But I wish I could be more loose, seriously. I get bluffed out of the pot just because I think about their ranges bla-bla-bla when in fact they open 86os UTG and that's it. Only one video with Mr Dwan 3 - and 5-bet this hand made it possible for any hothead thinking it's ok to play it
As a beginner I would almost forget range. Focus more On studying players in the hand, look for patterns. Know hand percentages and a little about equity.

Not likely, unless you're playing higher than $2-$5. At the lower stakes, just play solid and straightforward poker, and wait for good hands because you'll be in a lot of multi-way pots.

Most rec players, which is most of the audience for training, play very little deep stack poker.
Most cash games are played 100bbs+ deep and most tournaments start 100bbs+ deep.

1-1 and 1-2 in the uk is generally 6 or more players with 200bb plus.

@@MrZola1234 America is the exception- I’ve played across Asia, Australia and Europe. Only come across a 100bb cap game once and that was in Australia, never anywhere else.
I'd put all my money in preflop with aces, that's about it. Post flop, and after the turn and river they can shrink up sometimes! I've ran into aces like 5 times a row in one tournament! It stinks and each time I was behind so they held up all 5 times which is tough but just saying I'd shove all in preflop aces all day!
It depends how can you go allin with aces if you are utg player
@@anuj7876 yeah that's true. I dont think I'm going all in under the gun with them. I might open with like the standard 2x, 3x raise. But if someone raises me, and lets say someone raises after that. Then that's the action you want with aces! That's when I'm shoving all in! It's a tricky move to play with aces even if there are no re raises. But I've seen it work. You sit and question the move! Would he or she really just shove all in with aces and you think nah and call. Then they flip over aces! It's a bold strategy to open the pot with a straight all in with aces but I've seen it done!

why exploit recreational players (CP)? they are the better citizens who are just looking for a way to have a recreation? why not teach the CP how to protect themselves from the hustlers who are preying on them?
Why are you playing? If you would like to win something you are going to need those chips later when the field is narrowed to good players and pros. Better you take them than the pros. If you want to play a 'fair' game do something else.

First ever tournament I played was a 60 person tournament.
Never In my life had watched videos or read books. Learned and loved the game through Zynga poker back when it was fun.

Mine with smalls are literally are around 50% of the time.
