Part of the issue with TH-cam as well is that it's fallen into the "outrage" style of algorithm. It is bent so hard on showing you stuff it knows you will hate lol. Similarly to Twitter, it knows that anger is the easiest emotion to get people to be active with. And that engagement keeps you on the site longer, which makes their metrics look good, and also if you lack an adblocker it makes them more money. Even on this video alone I found like 5 videos I had to mark as "not interested" in the sidebar. It is such an obnoxious system, and the worst part is that it's TRYING to be obnoxious.
There are deep seated ideological falsehoods in western societies that I hate so much. Things like "why do THEY get help, when WE don't?", and using that to justify hating your fellow sufferers instead of hating those who refuse to help you. Things like vengefulness, wanting people to get hurt, wanting people to suffer, encouraging pre-judgement punishment. There's the idea of "I suffered this way, so everyone should suffer this way too, and if they don't suffer like I did, I will use that against them and spread hatred around them instead of being happy for them having it better". This might be the autistic perspective, but people tend to be caught up in ten layers of obfuscation emotionally, instead of cutting through to ground truth. People are living in this 50th level of Inception dreams within dreams, where all the relationships between contexts and the meaning of everything is deteriorating, and logic is on the level of those early AI generated videos of Will Smith eating spaghetti. There's a whole section of humanity that seems to disagree that love and compassion matters.
Back in the late 2000s a family member who had started out in the early days of cybersecurity and worked their way up from had taken me aside and talked about the prevalence of foreign actors in social media and the like, when social media wasn't even that old. It was something that stuck in my head, and has been fucking mind boggling to watch spread over the years, but the major groups behind them remain the same. Now bots are more prevalent than ever and you even have the shitty "AI" language model ones.
I'm not from the US but I've noted that political videos from my country in yt suffer a very similar case of brigading/astroturfing, whenever someone criticizes the current government, the videos get swarmed with users shaming and insulting the people in the video (all of them having usernames with pretty much the same format, something like "realname1234"). I don't remember things being this overt even from four years ago.
The thing with youtube is you need an audience that actively watches you and is catered to you as the videos aren't pushed as much. While on tiktok your videos will get actively pushed to the audience you seeking for. You can actually see how a lot of people who get famous just repeat the same video idea because it works. Dystopian type of present to be honest
what I mean by all this is why the commenters are like that. Sorry you are experiencing that but it's honestly just the kind of youtube you will get. Same with the nsfw bots that is VERY problematic
1:00 I get annoyed by the "you live in a bubble" or "I tell it how it is" line so much because it's reiterated by dudes who experience the least amount of hardship in life. I just ban or block them so that they can meet their unsympathetic match. It beats pretending that I am comfortable with the garbage that they say. People who experience actual great pain are very hesitant to give that pain to others because they know how much of a uneccessary burden it is.
Chet, I am following your channel very closely but recently there has been more political talk in your videos. Mainly about annoying people surrounding those topics but still. I think it's giving them fuel to continue trolling
When you don't speak to the points you want because you fear trolls - you are letting them control the narrative. As I said, I make these for tiktok first where there is real conversation.
Definitely, I am not sure if it's common but youtubers (from what I heard) tend to just be politically neutral to not have this happen or to not have their audience attack them because they can't mentally be okay with someone not agreeing on something. Problem nowadays that is just super common and is expressed because "oh you are an internet person! You cannot touch me!". Though I do love how Chet doesn't just say what his political stance but WHY (the good and the bad) and that might just change people's minds if they don't have a mentality to downplay everything. Love the content and happy that it's also on youtube by the official account because I do not have a tiktok account myself
