What a voice! No auto tune, no plugins... only talent and a place for sing... Outstanding!!

One of the best female singers ever existed. Incredible voice.
I agree

Ann Wilson is the best, not one of the best
Esa es una de las agrupaciones del rock que han trascendido en la historia de la música y esa es una de las canción es más hermosa yo siempre la escucho en mi móvil desde República dominicana
Pat benatar?
The emotion conveyed in Hynde's vocals is stunning. The heartache is palpable.
Wondering if this song was written about James Honeyman Scott or Pete Farndon.
The last "I saw a picture of you ..." to "wretched life of a lonely heart," looks like she's fighting back emotions, compared to how calm and srene she ws the previous 2:40 .... hmmmm, hurtful. The 80's were going to be Jimmy's decade, too.
R u bbish
Stunning is the right word for their whole set. I watched the whole day on TV, recording the audio off the radio. It was evident that many performers were moved by the magnitude of the event and the size of the crowds. Queen, rightfully got accolades, but Bowie and the Pretenders blew me away. Check out Bowie’s performance of Heroes… the perfect song for the day.
BOOM!!!
There will never be music like this again. I was lucky to be the generation that was there for this WONDERFUL music.

So glad I'm an 80's child! What a time to be young and alive. Things were so much better back then. No computers, no cell phones. People experiencing things together and being unified. It was great!
Had a tv staion to play radio for us in videos
@@roychapican8993 I still remember when Thriller video was premiered!
@ Derek Anderson: sadly, change isn't ALWAYS forward. Hopefully, an ajustment will be made..histiorically, that is usually true. But the net is a powerful weapon, for evil, as WELL as good...
I was 13 and watched this with my 21 yo brother and parents who were huge music fans. I declared I wanted to marry Tom Petty and be Chrissy H. My mom said you need to start practicing your piano more and my dad bought me a guitar a few days later. Those were the days!
And those in the wealthy nations cared a little for the less fortunate, hence Live Aid was born.
Now we have Donald Trump once again in control of the wealthiest nation in history. Little if any charity will be coming from that part of the world.
We just didn't realize how great we had it back then, We had the best music 50's 60's 70's and 80's, best musicians. Great concerts.
and the concert tickets were cheap
I'd throw the 90s in there too. Basically pre-internet and pre-smart phones.
And then one day in the early 21st century shit (aka Autotune) happened.
And 90z too lol
Now 2020 full garbage hip hop type of thing and all computer generated music
Her voice....I can't believe how beautiful it is live
She(Chrissy Hynde) and her voice are both beautiful in this video.
2022
Have listened to the studio but that is the first time I ever seen that live. Kick-Ass!!!
Around 1985 here in Providence I received free tickets to the Pretenders, I knew then from MTV, never would think to see them live...they blew me away, they rocked
That is exactly what I thought about her voice in a live performance! Chrissy rocks
All the 80s people - give a thumbs up is you HEARD THE BEST GROWING UP!!!!
when she sings " Those were the happiest days of my life " I get goose bumps
Chrissie Hynde, my favorite female singer ever. Her voice is mesmerizing.
I uroda. Pozdrawiam.
Instantly recognizable voice. One of the best. I’ve never heard any other voice close to hers. So good.
Agreed! And the bit starting at 2:30 never fails to give a thrill -- one of the most astonishing few seconds of vocal anywhere, to my ears (especially on the studio version with her overdubbing)...
Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs is the only vocalist with a similar tone imo
Absolutely

And the LYRICS to this song… timeless Shakespearean quality. “The phone, TV and the news of the world / Got in the house like a pigeon from hell “. “Like a break in the battle was your part / In the wretched life of a lonely heart”
In 80s i was a teenage days
There's a lot of great artist
The Pretenders one of them
I had a great time in the 80s
80s will be forever
Goddamn! I’m crying. Oh how I love this song. Chrissie KILLED IT!!!!!!!! Where has music gone? I’m not saying there’s nothing good out there today, but there will never be the glory days of music from those 40 years. The 60’s-90’s! There will never be a concert like Live Aid EVER! Coachella has had its moments, but that all ended after 2011.
sure sure
Music hasnt gone anywhere. Youre just getting old and not looking for it anymore like you did when you were young. There is a shit ton of excellent bands out there. You just dont know about them.
One of the unique voices in rock, immediately recognizable. My favorite Pretenders song.
I saw The Pretenders in the 80s then again around 2012 and Chrissie’s voice was unchanged - perfect. They are an amazing live band.
How great. My mum loved the pretenders. 🤗
Shes awsome...what emotion. The Pretenders kicked it!....great tunes for decades to come....Soul Music!
I absolutely love this woman. She is to be compared to no one. That voice, hauntingly beautiful.
I bought The Pretenders’ “Learning to Crawl” album when it came out… One of the best albums to come out in the 80s. Still holds up today
Outstanding.
Well I bought the self titled debut album in 1980 after seeing the poster on Johnny Fevers door on WKRP in Cinncinati
Great album start to finish
@@garyc39 KRP sold a lot of albums.
This is a fantastic performance AND a great recording. For all the tech glitches and erased material that plagued Live Aid, it’s wonderful that this exists.
I've just found the best singer I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. What a vibrato.
She sounds exactly like on the record ! 😍
Live Aid put the best music in history all on a stage together.
An incredible, fortuitous moment in music history, brought about by a sad but galvanizing cause.
Thank you all for having done it. Incredible

Never get tired of this woman. Aside from being drop dead gorgeous what a great voice and band to go with her! Drums and that guitar and bass....wow.
The fact that she still performs today and still has a good voice, 37yrs later, also quite remarkable.
A few years ago a old friend and co worker of mine passed away. She loved the Pretenders. Whenever I listen to them I think of her. I sing, smile and get teary. RIP Sylvia 🤘❤️
a perfect well written song, great lyrics that describe the loss of innocence and youth...still means as much to me now as it did in 84,85....
This amazes me, this Lady sounds better live than record.
Totally agree 100 percent what a voice …
Yeaaa❤❤❤

Back before social media, auto tune, and reality TV. God Bless the 80's, when you actually had to have talent to be successful.

58 years old, I live for music! Master!!! Relief for the soul.

Pure talent, musicians enjoying their music, and sharing it with us, just the way it's supposed to be...
This concert was utterly impossible. All that incrtedible talent, together at one time, all in one place.
Insane. Geldof is Superman.
Chrissy Hines is from Ohio and a true vegan and animal activist you go Chrissy no matter what people say 1977-1980's brought great music from UK and too US. That home girl knows how to rock n roll.
There will never be another era like the 80s!
Ooooh yes my friend! That decade was fantastic unbelievable and unforgettable but not only for music! Culture and fashion was amazing too! You agree?
I agree. Music wise, it seems like people were being creative enough with electronic instruments, but still needed talent for it. Now, everything is electronic, talent isn’t on the forefront. Shame.
Outside of Queen’s otherworldly Live Aid set, the Pretenders were the best.
An all time great song and artist ! For those lamenting the old songs I can say there are many new songs released in last 10 years that have the same power . Keep an open mind to these contemporary talented song writers.
Not knowing the context, the first time I heard this tune it reached out from the speaker and grabbed me by the throat. Her grief is palpable.
Todays her bday! My biggest girl crush in 50 yrs .Anyone in 2022 listening to her today??

Happy Live Aid day 1985 ( 39 years ago today )
The one and only Robbie McIntosh on lead guitar, still playing live concerts to this day.
I appreciate her music more and more and more as I grow older.
A really powerful woman!..lovely Chrissie..
At the end when she sang “those were the happiest days of my life” emotional gold
Wow. Great performance. The change in the middle of the song is pure genius with the melody.
"I found a picture of you, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Those were the happiest days of my life
Like a break in the battle was your part, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
In the wretched life of a lonely heart"
I can never forget these lyrics.
This song was part of the fabric of my teen years. Chrissie's voice is just magical. I would absolutely love to see her live. In her most recent videos, she still sounds amazing. I just learned this on guitar and I cant get enough of it.
For those who are new or only know a pair of songs , I encourage them to listen the first album, absolutely a masterpiece, the real Pretenders....... Don't forget to buy this vinyl!
Hello everyone
Jose aqui,
Muito obrigado The Pretenders
Wow, such a beautiful voice and LIVE!!!!No auto tune needed here.
You said it
Thanks to groups like The Pretenders bringing back real rock after the debacle of late 70s disco! Chrissie is a real musician!
Her voice, from 1985 to 2022,never changed ❤
What a great day that was. Twenty three years old, in the middle of one of the best summers I’ve ever had, an all day, all night party.
She looks and sounds great!
I was there that day after celebrating my birthday the day/night before. It was so hot that afternoon, when the firemen used hoses to cool off the people on the ground, you could see the steam rising above the stadium. The only thing hotter than the weather was the music. Opened with Joan Baez singing Amazing Grace, then the hometown band, The Hooters, came out like a wave on the ocean. Later...Beach Boys, Four Tops, AC/DC, Pretenders, Duran Duran, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Stones, Material Girl, Black Sabbath and more, one after the other. 7AM until midnight. It was amazing, best show I ever saw. Thank you Mr. Geldof! Feed the world!
That is alot of humanity in the audience, what an experience of a lifetime to have been there in person, the "Pretenders" rock.
i wast Born 79, but i Discovered this 3 months ago and so addicted to it
Still gives me goose bumps after all these years.
Beautiful singer, awesome voice!
Chrissie Hynde & yes, she’s great!
Loved them from when Brass in the pocket came out as a single. I got the chance to see them in concert in the 80's. It was the Get Close album tour. They were fantastic. Still a tight New Wave band. Great show!
Loved this song when it came out and still do all these years later. Great job band.
How about we do this again in 2025? It was a great success in 1985 and did a lot of good for people in Ethiopia. Africa hasn't stopped needing our help, so let's do it again with the biggest artists in the world.
A lot of artists from the 80's passed away or retired. Daryl Hall is still going, Madonna, Billy Joel, U2, Bon Jovi.
a song from a very private person that is way too private to exist, but we are all so glad it does. it reminds you to keep your nice memories and carry on.
I wouldn't classify myself as much of a Pretenders fan as there's only a handful of their songs I could honestly say I love, but that moment (around 2:30 in this video) where Chrissie's voice just soars into "part" is one of THE great moments in rock music in my opinion. It knocks me out every time I hear it.
Yeah, it is beautiful.
OMG YES!!!
💯
AWESOME...when rock was rock. This song .......the guitars ..............you glide along in space and time with this great song..................Chrissie H>:: THANK YOU!!!
James Honeyman-Scott is definitely the progenitor of the Pretenders' sound but Robbie McIntosh here is equally fabulous. A testament to Chrissie's genius!

Great voice live, no question! I believe Ann Wilson and Pat Benetar are two of the greatest female rock vocalists of all time. Just my humble opinion....
Beautiful voice and amazing version of this tune. Back in the days when England was still a free country....and had pride in itself.

from studio or video version to live she sounds the same and its great.
I love the passion she sings with at the lyric" those were the happiest days of my life"
She wrote the song for James Honeyman-Scott who was the original lead guitar who died of an accidental drug overdose. She was devastated by his death and you picked up on her passion as she sings it for James.
