TbH tough, this is "just" a Raspberry Pi with it's limited capabilities, not a "full" PC. A commodore or something like that was state of the art hot shit. However the price reflects that differents as well of course. Crazy how far we've come so far with computers, that thing is defenetly well suited for usual Office Bullshit and everything you'd do on the Internet and can handle a lot of Emulation tasks just fine. Including emulating the good old Amiga or Commodore as well.

Same, there was a TV area in the library that was mostly unused (in place to watch DVDs), so I brought in a Pi and keyboard/mouse and turned those TVs into my own computer. That was so -long- much effort (and I ended up losing a keyboard!) and if the 400* was available then, I would have loved it (and probably not have bothered even getting a laptop, as there wouldn’t have been a need for one!)
(* of course taking into account the 4th gen power! I already have a Pi 4 but I’m -tempted to buy- already bought a 400 now, which I'm loving...)

Most monitors that I've used come with a 3.5mm audio jack on the back of them, so I'm assuming they'd want people to directly connect to their monitor instead of the Pi 400. But I do agree that it would be more convenient if it was on the keyboard itself.

Worth bearing in mind that the unit by itself is quite a bit cheaper, and the bits that come in the kit may not be needed. The good thing about the 400 is that it's effectively the Pi 4, keyboard, case and cooling all in one, and hopefully the only things to source would be a micro HDMI adapter/cable and a microSD card (and should be easy to get!)

I’d love to see one of these with an m.2 slot for an actual SSD instead of just microSD support. USB 3 external drives just wouldn’t be the same. A little 256GB m.2 SSD (even SATA, not NVMe) would be killer. Love seeing the little advances in the Pi’s!

So basically, it's a new microcomputer 30 years after that form factor went out of fashion. Neat!
The Raspberry Pi always did have a feel of a hangover from that 70s/80s era of home computing which was basically all about nerdy kids tinkering with their computers and just trying to make them do cool stuff. Now they've just made that link even more apparent.

The announcement of this was a pleasant surprise. I know some found it puzzling, but I like this variant of the Pi. I was considering picking up their desktop kit in the past because I like the look of their keyboard and could use another one, but it never made sense for me to actually buy one. It seemed like a bad value since the included case was useless due to the thermal needs of the Pi 4. This is a different story and much more appealing to me. It's nice to finally see a Pi 4 board with proper cooling included. That's one of the things I've always liked about Hardkernel's Odroid boards. They've almost always had good thermal solutions. I may just get one of these.
