  • Sailing my Goat Island Skiff in twelve knots, no reef, and local ocean wind waves mixed with a small ocean ground swell. This video shows how well the GIS performs in smaller waves and that the higher freeboard and hull shape do a good job of keeping it dry as well. Tough way to spend a weekend afternoon! Shot with a short transom mounted camera boom slightly elevated, and a Nikon AW100. The Goat Island Skiff uses a balanced lug rig, and was designed by Michael Storer. For more info, you can check out the Goat Island Skiff facebook site.

Looking at the tiller angle, the boat balance is very nice indeed.

Mik, the balanced lug GIS design is great, thanks for designing it! I was set up to fish for halibut that day, (you can see my rod on the floor, as my rod holder is occupied with the camera boom). The wind was better for sailing than fishing.

I like this boat & believe it to be an excellent light- weight sailboat with an advanced/ retro rig. One thing only bothers me...if you are going to hike , surely you need slightly wider side- decks for the butt! It must feel like sitting on the edge of a piece of lumber very quickly.

Yeah, thanks Mik! I like my current settings. Just might restrict the traveller a bit for my port tack.
