automated bird bath filler

A way to fill your bird bath using your automated watering system. Could be more elegant, but it works, and the hummingbirds like the fine spray. The bird bath is made from a glass top, and a concrete pedestal that had had it's matching top broken.

Goat Island Skiff two man sailing with the first reef in. Fifteen knots gusting to twenty on San Diego Harbor. The end of the video has a few distance shots of the GIS sailing under one reef.

Goat Island Skiff through different points of sail shot from a long boom mounted camera. Eight knots of wind gusting to twelve. With two people, much less hiking would be needed, with one, it's just good exercise! First two tacks are a bit weak, the second two are better. The mid-boom sheeting arrangement is my own mod.
A Goat Island Skiff Tour of San Diego Harbor
มุมมอง 34K11 ปีที่แล้ว
A twenty plus mile tour of San Diego Harbor, showing points of interest that can be viewed by boaters, or explored on land. Starting in Glorietta Bay on Coronado, I rowed and sailed down to the south boat basin of Shelter Island, then back. The winds were typical, very little at eight in the morning, building to 12-15 knots from the west by two in the afternoon. The music is Vaughan Williams, T...

Same day out as first video, but at a camera angle that shows more of the sail, and less of the boat. I bear away on the starboard tack to go around a patch of kelp. Later in the sail while on a broad reach I ran smack into some kelp I didn't see, and it was like slamming on the brakes. Pulled the board to get free. descripition from the first video: Sailing my Goat Island Skiff in twelve knots...
Goat Island Skiff good wind and small ocean waves
มุมมอง 57K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Sailing my Goat Island Skiff in twelve knots, no reef, and local ocean wind waves mixed with a small ocean ground swell. This video shows how well the GIS performs in smaller waves and that the higher freeboard and hull shape do a good job of keeping it dry as well. Tough way to spend a weekend afternoon! Shot with a short transom mounted camera boom slightly elevated, and a Nikon AW100. The Go...

      Appears to be maybe a rainbird 12" popup sprinkler. On those, there is an adapter available to convert from lawn sprinker to dripline. There is also a threaded polyflex riser. That's the small tube part. At the top is some gooseneck and a spitter emitter. I'm not familiar with the gooseneck. They may have heated the stiff polyflex and bent it to shape. Someone familiar with rainbird and drip systems could help you work out the parts. Lowes probably carries most of it.

      @dvjvbv 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are also popup micro sprinklers that are already set up for dripline - so you'd just put a goosenect and spitter on the end of that. Or just a section of poly, if you don't need it to pop up.

    Love your videos. I am considering building the Gis. How long is your beautiful boat and trailer when parked in the garage? I have 21' in my garage. I think it is long enough.

    • @ProteinStyleAnimalStyle
      @ProteinStyleAnimalStyle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, I keep mine in the garage. The mast is the same length as the boat at 15.5 feet, so the boat on the trailer including the trailer tongue comes out to about 18 feet. Fits perfectly. If you have not already, you should check out the Goat Island Skiff facebook group. It's very active with folks sailing their GIS's and people currently building. For the fb group, just send a request ot join, they are good about getting people in right away.

    I like this boat & believe it to be an excellent light- weight sailboat with an advanced/ retro rig. One thing only bothers me...if you are going to hike , surely you need slightly wider side- decks for the butt! It must feel like sitting on the edge of a piece of lumber very quickly.

    Beautiful boat! I've been looking at different type of skiffs/dories for fishing offshore. How does this skiff perform in 2-3ft tight waves? I realize it wouldn't be too much fun, but does the boat feel safe? I've never fished aboard a sailboat... have you found any real downsides? Thanks!

    • @ProteinStyleAnimalStyle
      @ProteinStyleAnimalStyle 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two to three foot spaced ocean swell is no problem. Tight waves can be a bit bumpy, but I have never felt unsafe offshore. I rigged my boat for trolling, which I've done a couple of times, but mostly we bay fish, either at anchor, or drifting and moving around with the oars. The back of the boat is very stable to stand in, and makes a great place to cast from. TO get a feel for sailing this boat offshore, watch this one: GIS good wind and small ocean waves

    So right, flossing is important. I learned it the hard way half a year ago. I wasn’t flossing so all the sweets and food gathered together between two molars, and cavities began building up in both teeth for a long time. It wasn’t detected at ordinary dental visits until I got tooth ache. At that time x-ray showed very large and very deep cavities in both molars. So both needed a root canal treatment and are now ready for a crown. So now I am once a day
