Of course. The tenor gets the girl. Who is always the soprano. I was a basso profundo. You remember me.? Always dressed in black. Always the villain. Always stabbed in the third act, by the tenor, of course. It was fixed. The tenor always wins. I should get rid of this goatee. Always a dead giveaway.
I only found out recently that she was actually going to do the show in French in Paris many years ago. The whole show was ready to go, she had learnt it entirely in French, but the show was sadly cancelled due to a fire at the theatre. The same one the phantom story is based on.
I was gonna be in France around the same time she would be doing the show and I was so gutted for her and the whole cast and crew when the news broke about the fire. That was super sad. Luckily the theatre got back on its feet and reopened a few months later with Grease :) It wasn't the same theatre though! I think Phantom is based on the Opera National and the theatre was the Mogador. Still an eerie coincidence though.
It wasn't the same theater that the book is based on. The Mogador wasn't founded until after Gaston Leroux wrote the novel. The novel incorporates some rumors about the Palais Garnier and the Garnier is the hall in question in the novel, although the name is changed for the musical to the Opera Populaire. A chandelier broke there and killed a concierge in 1896, and some construction during Leroux's lifetime led to an urban legend that it was built over a lake due to a subterranean water tank accessible through the building, which are a couple of things that made it in one form or another into the novel and then ALW's show. But anyhow, still sort of a wild coincidence that a show which is largely about antics in a theatre got cancelled because of such an unfortunate incident.
This my friends, is the best proof in existence that when you come to see a musical, you don't only enjoy the actors and singers, but also the orchestra.
I always did. When I saw my first concert, I was amazed how high quality the performance was, just like the vinyl I'd played. I'd seen live bands, and they always sounded different, but an orchestra ... amazing.

They're doing a better job recording. Some of the earlier stuff, the recording was less professionally done. Listen to some of the BBC proms pieces (where they use professionals who know how to record) and then other pieces of the same year, and you hear what I'm talking about. Around 2005 the industry was still using some analog on tape (esp for live recording), but was starting to switch over to all digital. The digital sound wasn't so good. 10 years later, things have improved. I worked for Yamaha Music Corp. Listen to some of Yo Yo Ma's recordings (where they used reel to reel quarter and half inch tape machines) and you'll really hear a difference--even converted from analog to digital.
Everything about this is so beautiful. Not only is Sierra's voice is so gorgeous, especially in French, but I love how even when they didn't have a male singer to provide Raoul's role, the conductor suddenly steps in to help out. It's so purely wholesome!!!
Sierra's French is very good, and so is the translation (I had feared it would not be, based on previous experience. Mais je suis rassurée). I had tickets for the première in Paris and was totally gutted when the news broke that there had been a fire at the theatre. I'm still praying they will put it on in the not too distant future.
That's the most beautiful/wonderful/magical thing about music... you don't have to understand a single word of what's being sung, as long as you feel it, that's all that matters. Well done, Sierra!
Sierra sings like a magical sparrow. I have been truly impressed by her performance in "Phantom of the Opera."Also, I was spellbound by the duets from the Rodgers and Hammerstein II tribute on PBS with Julian Ovenden. I heard about this! Kind of a coincidence right?
Phantom could not bear to see Christine again and so he burnt down the theatre.

I love how the violinists smiled after looking at their conductor singing

I love that the conductor is singing and conducting at the same time xD
The look on her face when the conductor began to sing is priceless. Too cute..
Conductor has such a good voice. I bet he could have played the role of Javert in Les Miserables.
The thing is Russel Crowe also played that part and didn't sound so hot.
Mythical Actor That is incredibly factual lol

Is it me or does Sierra's voice sound maturer these days?
Neysa Waltz because of aging, duh.
An old voice teacher of mine said the voice changes and grows in adulthood as well, not just during puberty.
The lower key kind of changes how she sings it.

I like this version so much. This version sounds so soft and joyful. And her french singing😃
It seems like even the orchestra was surprised when the conductor started singing--or they just like to hear him sing. Either way, awww.
This woman... God, how can she be this incredible
Her reaction when this guy started singing is adorable ❤️
iconic! love how the conductor was singing whilst conducting❣️😂
I love the smiles that the orchestra members give the conductor when he starts singing. Truly shows how supportive they are of each other.

Came for Sierra. Saw the comments. Re-watched it for the conductor.

The Conductor singing as Raoul while conducting at the same time.
