Sierra Boggess performing The Lusty Month of May from Camelot in the BBC Proms 2012 - Broadway Sound with the John Wilson Orchestra.
Recorded and performed on 27th August and Broadcasted on BBC2 on 1st Sept.
I do not claim to own any content, this belongs to the original broadcaster. I am only uploading this for prosperity's sake.
She's a Disney princess in real life.
She is so profoundly sweet, fun, flirty, playful, and talented that after hearing her it ruins any other classical/opera/musical numbers I listen to. She's just SO GOOD!!!!
Well put👍🏻
I think maybe you already captured my idea with "sweet, fun, flirty, playful," but I have long been impressed not only with Sierra as a singer but, also, Sierra as an actress. She has so much fun playing here with a large, fun range of moods, some of them broad and some highly nuanced. She just uses her whole self to bring this little frolic to life in every phrase. She is just brilliant.
Just came here to listen to my favorite singer before I retire for the night. It's nice to retire with a happy heart.
I like to listen to this one more than once a week myself, for much the same reason.
This is sweet
"The birds and the bees with all of their vast - amorous past - gaze at the human race aghast.." Who writes lyrics like this anymore? Amazing!
man in chair I know right?? Sad 😢
Nobody writes like this anymore!
The same man who wrote these words for Coco Channel in “COCO”....... “I will let the British Isles keep all the gaudy styles, I want Par-ee to wake and see, without me, there’s a vacancy...."
Given Alan Jay Lerner credited W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan with being the foundation upon which the modern musical rests, it is fitting that Lerner proved a wordsmith reminiscent of Gilbert himself. One can't help but smile at the cleverness of Lerner's lyrics here. It's just great stuff.
@@Rollin_L Indeed! :)
please, let Sierra be Sierra Boggess. stop refering Julie Andrews. Sierra has her own level and her own stardom. She is geat !
+shizuo kanemoto Won't happen. If you sing a song that has been previously nailed by a well known singer from the past, you have to expect to have your performance compared to that previous performance. It goes with the territory. There's little a singer can do about this other than stay away from songs that draw these comparisons.
shizuo kanemoto You mean great, not geat, so why not correct it, tho’ 59 people didn’t even notice? The proof that proof is not always in the number.
She is good but Julie is grandiose.
shizuo kanemoto Yes, she has her own level, her own voice (I fail to see what stardom has to do w it). But Julie Andrews’s level & voice are so much more moving, more naturally expressive, more impressive than Sierra Boggess’s. Great? Maybe, but I content myself w v charming & good.
Great as well!
Sierra, she just bubbles on stage and that singing.....................wow.
Even more than the fact that she is lovely and has a beautiful voice, what I love about Sierra Boggess is how she is always so into the music. Even in a concert performance like this, she's really getting inside the character and the song.
Her Smile, her Mannerism and her SINGING. She has it all. She owned that stage as soon as she walked onto it. Feel sorry for anyone who had to follow.
She's AB FAB!
You can tell she just loves to perform her craft which she has perfected. Consummate acting and that fabulous voice. Such a delight to watch that never tires.
I adore Sierra Boggess. :) Such technical perfection married with freedom, joy, and lyricism. Now I wish she'd play Guinevere for real!
I wish she'd play Maria for real.
(The Sound of Music, "I Have Confidence", her version was just so good. ^___^)
I actually could believe her as Guinevere more easily if she had the whole court with her. This version, somehow it's like the choir, conductor and orchestra are all just thinking, "This lady, whoever she is, has gone suddenly, charmingly mad." Without the play, without the cast, and without the context, it somehow just isn't the same. It's cute but it's not the same. I *would* like to see her play Guinevere for real though sometime and just see what she would do with it. I think she would probably be good. For *this* video I think we just have to use our own imaginations! ^___^ (She obviously is using hers too. ^___^ Good for her. ^___^)
I can totally see a revival of Camelot with Sierra playing Guenevere and Ramin as Lancelot. Maybe JOJ as Arthur.
Shut up and take my money!!!!
@@deborahingle2301 Lol, exactly!
Ramin played Arthur in a recent revival but he can play Sir Lancelot too Julian can play Lancelot
Hi. Sierra. Ya. Umm, can I borrow some talent?
if you like her voice and the way she sings, just enjoy it. I like Julie Andrews also, both are exceptionals, and I don't compare them. I just enjoy listening their songs. There is not a book written about taste.
+shizuo kanemoto LOL there are plenty of books written about taste, and some would even argue it can sometimes live in the realm of the objective.
+Snuggles McSquishbottom I know that there are plenty books about it, but I think you got the wrong meaning. Anyway, doesn't worth discusing the subject.
This is the best performance of anything I've ever seen.
you should see her performing that west side story balcony scene !

I can't say I'm super fond of the overly long intro, but it was great to hear the lady Boggess sing. She's becoming something big on Broadway and I hope she continues on!
To may, to Camelot and to Jullie Andrews!
I love her voice and how she plays with it to make it different and just perfect for whatever song she sings.
That voice 😍😍 but also the eyes, the facial expression, the hand and body movement, Sierra is a goddess
A goddess indeed. Who cannot love her. Everything about her speaks of beauty, talent and grace. Others have sung this song: Julie Andrews 1960, Lynn Redgrave 1967. None can compare.
The way she acts and moves; it seems as though she owns the stage! It's brilliant! She's absolutely wonderful, as a singer, as an actress and as a human being.
God...I wish I could sing.
From what I know of Sierra Boggess and many singers (including my brother), practice and taking lessons can have a *huge* effect on how good a singer you are. Obviously you can have a naturally good voice but to be truly spectacular you must put practice and work into it. I saw my brother's voice go from mediocre to singing strong and full after a few voice lessons and practice.
I'm just glad that You Tube gives me the opportunity to listen. Who would know ab out these artists without TH-cam.
What sweet feelings do lessons transmute?
Sierra is one of the great talents of alll time. Julian is also. I am now 87 years old and they put me in mind of Jeannette mc Donald and Nelson Eddy. . They always bring tears to my eyes. JT wagner. New jersey
you had too much Sierra when you notice the hand gesture she does in 5:42 is the same they do in Masquerade "every face a different shade"
HAHAHAHA SPOT ON!
OMG!!!
What can one say about perfection? Only, thank you Sierra for your beautiful talent.
Sing on and on. I'll be happy to listen.
What a beauty and the voice, omg. What a talent!
A bright, clear voice bubbling effervescently along so joyfully . . . how stupendously wonderful!
There is something very apt and agile about Sierra’s acting. I have never seen a more talented young woman in my life!😊
Happy May 1st, everyone!! ❤
Tra la, it's May, the lusty Month of May
That lovely month when everyone goes blissfully astray
Tra la, it's here, that shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts merrily appear
It's May, It's May, that gorgeous holiday
When every maiden prays that her lad will be a cad
It's mad, it's gay, alive, a lust display
Those dreary vows that everyone takes, everyone breaks
Everyone makes divine mistakes
The Lusty Month of May
Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does it's scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating everywhere?
Don't you know, it's that dear forbidden fruit
It's May, the lusty month of May
That darling month when everyone throws self-control away
It's time to do a wretched thing or two
And try to make each precious day one you'll always rue
It's May, it's May, the month of "Yes, you may"
The time for every frivolous whim, proper or im-
It's wild, it's gay, depraved in every way
The birds and bees with all of their vast amorous past
Gaze at the human race aghast

One correction: It's mad, it's gay, a libelous display
...and in a bed!
She is so beautiful! Her voice is beautiful! She's like Ariel.
She originated the role of Ariel on Broadway in The Little Mermaid!
She sings this joyous song with such “gusto”. A beautiful voice sung by a beautiful and talented vocalist! I listen to her and Julian Oberdon often. 🥰
The awesome singing from Sierra Boggess is wonderful to hear! This is a special singing performance of The Lusty Month of May and the orchestra is outstanding. Thank you BBC for allowing this video to be viewed and thank you Hrern1313 for sharing it.
I love the fun she's having with this!
I think she's the best singer in the world, just perfect.
This is just sublime, love it!
This is one of the fine songs from, “Camelot”. Sierra Burgess sings it with such passion and conviction. She is a talented and beautiful woman. Such talent is hard to find today!
The music and the vocals are perfection. Simply lovely, what a great performance!
i've been listening to this, and the Julie Andrews version all day on repeat... just cause those two are amazing....
Me coming here every 1st of May . Its the first song i hear. Its only right🤭😁
Same
Happy first day of May!!
I’d have given anything to be there that night. So many incredible performances. Grateful for TH-cam to have captured it all
Sierra is absolutely fabulous I never tire of watching these super videos 🥰
This was so beautifully sung and Sierra adds such great personality and character to it Love her voice!
It is so wonderful to hear the elegant dance music that precedes the vocal of this song. And, I must say as a dyed in the wool Julie Andrews fan, Sierra Boggess sings the song wonderfully. Her voice has the crystal clear purity, and crispness of diction the song demands. Her performance is delightfully wicked.
First she is a perfect singer, secondly such a sweet woman Who has no a similar creature ever in the whole world. She is indescribably beautiful.
She gives me the chills especially when she hits those real high notes
It's funny how this song is so happy but when you think of what she's saying, you're like O_O
She is GORGEOUS.
She'd be perfect for the broadway revival which is way over due!
I got caught in rapture I didn't realize I was smiling all throughout the performance. What a beautiful ending to the song !! Perfect pitch , perfect everything !!
I just realized another reason why this song is perfect for Sierra-she was born in the lusty month of May-is that not an omen for you?! :D
She has the most amazing voice, would love to see her in live performance.
I was lucky enough to see her live as Ariel in The Little Mermaid on Broadway with my family she is one of top favorite singers!
I saw her in SOR in February and got a picture with her after. It was the best day of my life :D
I love to see Camelot restated with Sierra
It’s rather unfortunate that lyrics like this aren’t really written anymore! 😭
I believe Sierra is an angel sent from heaven
She is tho it is said to be true 🤭
@@tatianarepp9810 Aww i know! 🥰
HOLY CRAP SHE IS SOOOOO AMAZING! I CANT EVEN COMPREHEND IT!
Beautiful and stunning performance!!!
I wish I can sing just abt a quarter like her...so envious of her talent!
The ultimate professional. The acting, mannerism and the SINGING. No acronyms here. Oh, My God.
Gah Sierra is perfect in every way she's such a versatile performer and plays her character so well.
Beautiful voice plus she is so charming. She is perfect for the song!
I cant get enough of this video or Sierra Boggess! Shes all kinds of wonderful!!
she is perfection
The precision of a well tuned orchestra is sometimes maddening.
Sierra, thanks for this amazing song which always brighten me up and get me through my depression whenever I listen to it
Loved, loved, loved it, her joy, her enthusiasm, her flirty manner.
Happy May!!!!!
She drives me crazy! Who’s the lucky guy! What a voice and talent!
I have listened to some rotten vocalists singing the musical numbers that Julie Andrews sang before. But Sierra Boggess is an amazing singer. She can surely take over Julie singing.
Yes, what talent Sierra lives the song like no other performer, the present day screamers and yellers should listen to Sierra, she is a joy to listen to!
can we just agree sierra can play basically every role ok great thanks
And that Mr Wilson is as, wonderfully good, as a Lady 'singist' gets with your Magnificent Orchestra! May I, humbly, request that this Lady is a very regular part of your Proms contribution? Please?
She should change her name to "Sierra Goddess" - to say she's incredible is an understatement.
every may 1st i always go back to this video 😍 happy may 🤗
Skip to 2:40 if you want to just skip to where she sings xx but I think you should watch and listen to it all it's amazing and every morning in May I will play this song and never get bored! 😍😘😄
Time for my annual watch
tremendous production!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sierra Boggess..Your AMAZING!!
This is amazing. Camelot is one of the most underrated musicals I have ever seen and Sierra is one of my favorite singers so I absolutely love this combo. Three cheers for Sierra!
Camelot was the biggest disappointment in Broadway history. It's a mess, long and dreary.
It's May 2018 now and I still love this performance so, so much. Sierra is talented like no one else.
Forgot to hear it on May! Hearing now, still lovely
The lyricist for Camelot was amazing
Sierra Boggess... and Julie Andrews... you can't help but have a massive adoration (girl crush) on them....
Sierra Is gorgeous ..amazing as always. ..
She is so beautiful here! She is putting wicked thoughts in my head.
This video is the first thing that I listen to whenever I get on the internet.
You can tell Sierra is having loads of fun performing this rousing number!
I just met Sierra today at a workshop my sister attended! She is so talented!!!!
She's a fantastic singer and actress, and equally adorable.
That mini growl she does at 4:28 *fans self*
Same with here- 4:34 oml I’m so gay
I have to hand it to Sierra Boggess, shes on Julie Andrews level in my opinion.
She copies Julie Andrews phrasing and diction of this exact same song. Dare I suggest, but lets not get carried away with attempting to state that she is on the same level, I mean Julie was one of the top coloratura, a child prodigy back in the 40s and 50s, with Grammys, Oscar, BAFTA, Dame hood etc. Furthermore, Julie had a far clearer voice if you listen to her live Japanese and American concerts and recordings of My Fair Lady and Camelot. But yes, this woman here can definitely sing well, but she just isnt and cannot be the great coloratura Julie Andrews.
Mary Elizabeth , indeed, very, very close to Julie Andrews.
Sierra is a decent cover. Julie at age 12. th-cam.com/video/iV2-YGGn0y4/w-d-xo.html
Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. JA set the standards for these roles. And many others.
No disrespect to Ms.Boggess who is supremely talented indeed, but no one has yet come anywhere near close to Julie.
I always fast forward to when she come out, lol
I'll be singing this when I graduate with my bachelor's next month
Good luck
She comes on and owns the stage! She is fantastic!
This such a fun song and Sierra sings it beautifully!!!!!
She's Amazing! :D
May 1st, 2019 here to listen to my Queen 😍
2020, I am still here listening to Sierra Boggess. 😇😇💕
She is so good makes you feel happy in the times we are in now 👍🦉
Wow! She sounds very similar to Julie Andrews here. She is just so amazing!
She is One of the best singers I ever heard🎉
SHE should be Guen in the reboot on broadway……she is absolutely fabulous!
The vivacity that Sierra displays is brilliant,
The instrumental introduction was actually the music used for the dance portion of the number.
