Yeah...made me realize that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances where dolphins can end up in captivity. And that love can make life in captivity worthwhile and fun rather than a sad torture. He would have passed away much earlier from the throat cancer in the wild. I have to stop assuming and try and remember that sometimes they are in captivity for a reason...such as being found in a near death condition on a sandbar. Dolphins in captivity have been shown to have at the very least a rudimentary understanding of human languages. (They can also do math!) For one who's been hearing English for over 40 years, I am 100% sure he could understand Chris. Remember, their IQ range has a significant overlap with the human IQ range.
These are the scenes of dolphins that PETA never show people. Bucky was clearly very happy living in captivity. He has his friends, new faces, excitement from the crowd, and all the treats he could ever want.
@@IvysPoison1987 yes obviously if he wasn’t a captive dolphin it would belong in the wild but this animal has been raised in captivity as a vulnerable pup and would have probably died from that cancer
@@emilyann104 2x as longs as the average life expectancy for a dolphin in captivity. So they did a good job in caring for him. Dolphins typically live longer in the wild than in captivity, but this case is an exception because he was a rescue that would have died without human intervention.

I am so happy that there are amazing vets like these that give so much and think outside the box sometimes. And I’m also happy that these animals have humans that care and will stick by them even when some of the care is obviously expensive. 🥰
Can't hear whats being said because of the loud music. There is no greater love then the love of an animal and their love is unconditional and forever, their love is pure and healing. 💖
The story of Bucky brought to mind another story.. one where my mother rescued a husky/aussie mix from euthanasia. At one year old she had been so abused and broken by her owners and their children that the vets at the animal hospital didn't think she would ever be compatible with humans again. My mother..having taken care of her mother for the last two years in her fight against cancer.. was driving randomly around while the ambulance drivers and other medical personnel took away my grandmother as she had lost the battle. My mother ended up on a dead end road that was an ASPCA and she went inside mostly to escape the florida heat.. This is where she met Pepper. Pepper was laying alone in the hallway in a tin tub of cool water since her owners had staked her out in the august heat with no water or shelter.. the vet had just decided that she should be put down due to her injuries and because she would not respond to anyone. My mother knelt down and said to her.. little girl.. you and I have had a tough year. The vet watched as Pepper finally responded to someone.. she wagged the tip of her tail. My mother asked if she could have her..the vet replied..If she survives. It was a little over a month of care before my mother could pick her up from the ASPCA so extensive was her injuries and malnourishment. She weighed just 27lbs. ( after she filled out she hovered in the 50lb range for the rest of her life) I have never seen such a bond between a dog and her human. A natural-born skeptic and somewhat cynical.. I honest to goodness believe that dog could read her mind. They were inseparable for the next 18 years. We were so blessed to be able to spend so much time with such an intelligent and compassionate creature.
Lushpaw that story is heartbreaking but with the happiest heartwarming outcome! Bless your mother for wanting and knowing she could and would help this Husky Dog with her love and kindness 💕💙💕💏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 I'm so very grateful this beautiful reserving 🐕 dog. It's amazing that that trainer has been with that dolphin for 42 years that is awesome that he's been there by his side ever since you picked him up on the beach
The defect is pretty rare. I've seen one other similar case and I feel like this is probably very similar. There is a blood vessel that is essentially wrapped around the esophagus when in the womb (in the womb it doesnt matter because the animal won't be swallowing food). That vessel usually shrinks and pretty much disappears by the time of the birth. In very rare cases that doesn't happen and the vessel, even though it no longer supplies blood, doesn't shrink and it created that constriction of the esophagus. Since they didn't give a ton of details I can't swear to it but that's what it looks like from the surgery video.
@@cassandrahepp6445 I always skip the surgeries so thanks for the intell. I'm fine in emergencies when someone's hurt, been there done that several times. But seeing something cut and then sew flesh, Nope! Big Big Nope. I couldn't even be in the classroom when in Biology we were supposed to disect a frog, had nightmares for weeks. My teacher didn't even bother to try and get me to do the other two dissection assignments, she gave me pass by letting me do a research paper instead. Of course having 13 year old gagging and going into shock was probably a strong factor. I had no idea I'd react that way, I absolutely loved horror films, I preferred thrillers but I watched Saw and Nightmare on Elm street, so who woulda thunk it. 🤷♀️ Even if its on TV, just can't watch the scalpel, pretend or otherwise.

shows how much he trusted his trainer. he handled the pain without moving one inch
Dolphins in captivity have been shown to have at the very least a rudimentary understanding of human languages. (They can also do math!) For one who's been hearing English for over 40 years, I am 100% sure he could understand Chris. Remember, their IQ range has a significant overlap with the human IQ range.
Dolphins are incredibly smart, and Bucky was being so cooperative I’m sure he knew whatever was happening would help him in the long run
i'm addicted to this show know and im so glad good people like you guys are taking care of the ill pets of bondi!! You receive all of my love!
Bucky is so very patient. So amazing to live so long. I'm so sorry to hear he passed.
My heart goes out to Bucky's trainer.
I cried after hearing Gypsy's mom asked for hug 😭💖 sending hugs
That man loved that dolphin.
Thankfully Bucky was able to survive an additional 7 years. He was truly amazing. RIP Bucky.
Poor little Gypsy :( It is really painful to have something stuck in your esophagus. I don't blame her for being terrified.
Yes it is. Poor little girl. So glad she's better.
h
the little devils are so cute even with the dispositions that they have
No
Why do Tasmanian Devils have to be so darn cute. They are mischief personified.
This dauphin was absolutely amazing...
These are the scenes of dolphins that PETA never show people. Bucky was clearly very happy living in captivity. He has his friends, new faces, excitement from the crowd, and all the treats he could ever want.
Right?! He seems so happy! And he’s lived 2x as long as the average life expectancy.
@@emilyann104 but is that healthy or fair to the animal to have them live 2x their life expectancy when its not natural
@@IvysPoison1987"not natural" doesnt mean bad
Dr. Andrew Marchevsky is So thoughtful, thorough, and patient, it's amazing! I love how much he obviously cares, before, during, and AFTER the surgery!
I love the Bondi Vet show and cant get enough of it. Dr Chris has such compassion for all of his patients. I’m glad that Bucky got another 7 years of life.
Dolphins are on a whole other level…we can learn so much from them. They are compassionate, lovable, exceptionally intelligent, majestic creatures, and Bucky is no exception. The bond between Bucky and their human is so sweet to see, you can feel the unconditional love ❤️💕
What a SWEET dolphin❣️❣️💯
Tasmanian Devils are one of my favorite critters, so feisty, I admire their spirit
i've had a barium swallow before, and i agree with gypsy. it nasty
Chris: Hello
Tasmanian devil: I love you
Tasmanian devils are soooooo cute 😍
Had and received 18 years of love 💞💙🐱🦊💕💙🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@joannemurdock7899 yea.. she was a one in a million kind of friend :)
😭😭😭
huskies are great and so talkative
You can see how much Gypsy loves her owners ❤️
Chris is like "yh, I tore up the dance floor. Got the same injury." I'm done! Smh. He's too much. Adorable.
Rest in Pease Bucky, Big warm hugs for Greg. Just read that Buccky had passed. So sorry for your lost.
It's amazing that that trainer has been with that dolphin for 42 years that is awesome that he's been there by his side ever since you picked him up on the beach
Y'know if I get to see dolphins dance after freaking cancer treatment then I wanna be a vet too.
I really ADORE THIS SHOW, ALL OF THE VETS ,ANIMALS, AND HUMANS
42 yrs old dolphin, what an achievement to those who is/was in the part of that.
Amazing.
Best thing to watch after a long day of work.
Aww U can tell that Bucky understands he’s being helped very intelligent creatures
Good point, what else other than understanding would explain why Bucky held still while people froze bits of flesh inside his mouth.
I hope that the breeder that Gypsy was purchased from was made aware of this defect because it came from!!
It’s not genetic. It’s just how the body react to the vessel.

I can't stand anything with blood or cutting something live.
One time I had a drop of blood on my thumb and my dad was to disinfect it, but I got so freaking scared I legit fainted-
and that did NOT turn out well, since I fell on a hard stone floor hitting my head.
why does the breeder get blamed they are not all bad
Bucky gives so much positive energy to the place we miss you pal
What a beautiful episode!!! Bucky is beyond amazing! Thank you, Chris!!! Once again Dr. Andrew and Dr. Lisa to the rescue! And I'm so happy for Tim that little Louis' leg healed nicely! So uplifting!
Is it just me that thinks the little noises the Devils makes are cutest ever!!! They sound so fierce even right out of their moms pouch!! Lil badasses!
I just love how emotional Roy got about their dog 🥺❤
God bless Bucky, his Daddy/brother/trainer/ best friend! Long may they celebrate life together,! You're a Star Bucky! You are so loved, sweetheart! Greg, you are amazing! You are a good man!
Dr. Chris; bless you for all you do to keep so many lives happy and healthy!

HHHHHHH-
These episodes always make me cry-
I don't want them to stop, but at the same time I do-
AGHHHHHH-
I'm glad you didn't blur the shots of Gypsy's surgery. Anyone watching a veterinary show won't be bothered by sights of treatments. We are all consenting, if not adults at least old enough. Thanks.
Bucky was a trooper and the caretakers are even more amazing, for a captive dolphin to live so long. amazing
So glad we could see the surgery on Gypsy! Cutting that constrictive band or vessel and we could see the whole esophagus finally opening up! Wonderful!
Thank you for all the work you do every year to help gorgeous animals get better!
