The problem isn’t that Glocks aren’t what they use to be, the problem is that Glocks ARE what they use to be. Not much has changed or been improved with other modern advancements the industry has taken. They’ve been on top for so long they forgot what put them there, a revolutionary product pushing the market forward.

TP9SF was a phenomenal handgun for me. The only reason I sold mine was because Canik seemed to retreat from the public for a while to work on fulfillment and logistics issues and there were no holsters at the time. Had I even a little more patience to just set it in the safe and forget about it, I would've been blessed with today's holster selection with an excellent full size handgun.

Feels good to be validated in my opinion on Glock. They're fine, hell they're even good. But I think for what they are they should be cheaper by now, and I've never held one and thought "yeah this feels good." They feel cheap to me, but aren't priced especially cheap.

I have had an FN 5.7 MK2 long before any of the other manufacturers jumped in the band wagon. Mine has none of the issues that the MK3 has hand in these videos. Ive shot all the different rounds on the market with no misfiring or issues. I think I pickes it up for like a grand back in the day. After reading the Terminal List series and learning that the SEALs carried the HK in .45, in different mods, I bought the HK45 Tactical. It is badass! It shoots so smoothly. I’ve never had one malfunction or one issue with it. And i have all the original parts on it, the only thing ive added is an optic and a light but the internals are still from manufacture.
I’ve also fired multiple styles of mixed rounds and brands, from fmj, hollow, flat nose, brass, steel, aluminum, led free, 50/115/124/147 grains, plus P, subsonic, supersonic, and almost every brand u can think of in the cheap and mid priced category.

Interestingly, my issued p320 has been the *most* reliable duty gun I've used since firsts getting it some six years ago. I don't particularly like it. Ergos are kinda goofy for me. Stupid thing has been utterly reliable though and has withstood regular duty holster wear for years so I can't really complain about durability either. I can confidently hit an 8in plate at 25m so I'm happy with accuracy. If it rode a little lower in the hand (closer to a p365) and didn't have such a weird big grip for my little ass hands, I'd have literally no complaints about it. I'm told we can now replace our grip modules with aftermarket ones so that should fix the latter problem but it's still always going to feel tall just because of how tall the fcg is.
Most overrated gun I've experienced has been the original M&P, also being my first duty gun. They were problem children from the beginning and I spent a few weeks total carrying my personal Glock on duty while mine was being worked on. My peers loved the ergos but I hated everything about them and I was very glad when we canned them for a new gun. Apparently enough other people agreed that S&W went back and did an iterative update on the weapons. By all accounts the 2.0 is a fine gun, I just have no real interest in it.

100% agree. My P320 was awesome in terms of reliability. I didn't find it as snappy as some folks, but certainly more than any other duty sized 9mm I've owned. I absolutely LOVE the feel of the M&P in my hand, but the trigger on the Gen 1 was hot garbage - the worst, gritiest trigger on any gun I've owned. The 2.0 is a dream.

The fact they Glock released the original 43 without an optic cut or rail, and limited it to 6 rounds, boggled my mind. Then the 43X comes out but only bumps it up to 10, still no rail, no optic. Then finally the 43X MOS has the rail and optic cut, but still only 10 rounds. Why can everyone else manage to figure it out? That being said I still own many Glocks.

Maybe true on the Glock when comparing Gen 5 to competitors. But so long as you can still find brand new Gen 3 Glock 17s/19s for about $499.99 (plus tax) at places like Academy, then the price-for-reliability is really hard to beat. Esp. considering how universal the platform has become, which means accessories like holsters, lights, extra magazines, and sights are widely available and affordable. Often priced lower for the Glock than competitors like the M&P (e.g., Ameriglo Cap sights). Speaking of sights...You are going to probably change the sights out on any pistol you buy off the shelf so that's a wash.

Yeah, it’s chunky, but in 9mm, it’s not like it’s jumping out of your hands on the recoil. I had solid accuracy with it. Glocks are fun to tinker with and upgrade, but Idk who’s buying them new. Get a used one and turn it into something cool. I like my 17 just fine now that I changed the trigger, the sights, the striker spring, the recoil spring, and added grip tape.

I do agree with most of the points you have, but I also disagree with a few of them
    1. Some calibers are understandably weaker comapred to others, but comparing it to 5.56 is honestly a little touchy. For reference, the 5.7 wasn't intended to replace the 5.56, but mostly to have similar ballistics and piercing while maintaining a small size. In simple terms, it was supposed to reedefine the SMG, and saying it's a little lackluster when it is worse than a rifle cartridge doesnt add up that well.
    2. It's understandable to choose a better alternative when one is overall impractical (cue the Desert Eagle). But even so, being famous and iconic aren't to be undermined as much as they usually are. Some people can simply stick with a weapon they've had because it has great memories, served them well, or even is just a weapon they love. TheRussianBadger himself has quite some experience shooting handguns, and yet still buys guns he knows and loves, i.e. Glock 17 and FN 5.7
I still love the video and gives some good insights and alternatives, and you got my respect for that

I still sent it out to get fixed anyway. I was happy at the time, that sig addressed it and "fixed" it basically for free. Win right? Well I don't know if you saw that video of the officer bending over to pick up a suspects legs, and his 320 discharged, WHILE IT WAS IN HIS HOLSTER, nearly hitting a friendly. It's an unloaded safe queen that might get pulled for a range day, but that's it from that day on. I don't own a large amount of firearms, so I'll keep it for now, but it scares the fuck out of me.

That's interesting that all those add-ons for the Glock...make it less reliable. I have actually seen this a bit, because as I watch PoliceActivity channel religiously (which featured body/dash cam footage of serious officer involved shootings), I can safely say that I've have seen 5-10% of gunfights on that channel where cops using Glocks have had failure to feed issues...some with extended mags/add-ons, some stock. Granted, some of it is likely limp-wristing in a stressful event. But sometimes it's way worse than just a spent case hang-up, there are a couple of tense vids where the officer is cursing because they cannot get their Glock to rechamber or fire...kinda frightening actually.
And I say this as a Glock owner of 2 G19s...but I am also NOT a fanboy of them, buuuuuut...once you get comfortable with them, they still do have their strengths (ease of use, easy to fieldstrip/clean, normally very reliable action when stock).

Grip hump that ruins a natural point of aim for almost everyone that trains on any other pistol and does nothing for recoil control (An M&P or CZ recoil impulse is the same and gets back on target better due to a natural point of aim). Garbage sights. Bad ergos. Pathetic afterthought backstrap design. And these issues could EASILY be fixed by Glock without changing the simplicity or reliability of a Glock. They just refuse to advance or do anything worth a shit. Pretty much every other manufacturer has surpassed Glock out of the box.

The P320 probably has a high bore axis because they designed to be compatible with P250 parts. The P250 was a DA/SA hammer-fired gun released by Sig a few years before the P320 that also had a removable fire control unit. The P320 was really a conversion of the P250 and was also Sig's first ever striker-fired handgun. That it wasn't a total dumpster fire is actually impressive considering how many other companies have jumped into the handgun game and failed epically.

And we have to remember that the 250 was intended to mostly retain holster compatibility with common duty lights, so it was tall by design to take after its 220/225 predecessors. I've long lamented that Sig didn't use the 365 as an opportunity to sunset the p320 and its legacy dna and start a new path with the smaller and by all accounts equally robust and reliable fire control group to build out both a duty gun line and a concealed carry line.

    • @socmonki

@@EastCoastMan603 what coping? The 320 is a fine gun. A ton of people out there who have no reliability problems, no problems with them going off unintentionally (how come it's all cops? how come absolutely no one has been able to recreate the pistol going off without a trigger pull? drop safety was fixed years ago as well). I have 2, an m18 and a p320 x carry, and both have been reliable, accurate, soft shooting, and just all around awesome firearms. The bore axis argument is old, considering some of the guns a lot of people love (1911/2011, PDP) also have a high bore axis and don't get the hate. I don't know why HO has had so many problems with 320s, maybe the guns are sentient and knows he doesn't like them so refuse to run for him? doubt it.
And it's not like I'm all Sig. He mentioned the APX A1 being a better pistol and yes, it is a fine gun (I own one). I shoot the 320 better though. The APX ergos just don't work for me. I think it's a very underrated pistol, with a great trigger, soft shooting, accurate. It just doesn't work with my hands. 320s do.

92X RDO was great for me, but for duty use it had some really annoying rust issues due to the work sites I was guarding at the time (summertime in Arizona, so torrential downpours combined with moon dust on dry days). I stopped using it for duty because of that, and the mags I got with it weren't rust proofed either. I love it as a gun, it's a sexy piece and I'd never hesitate to carry it, but believe it or not, my 19X has served me better as a duty gun for maintenance reasons alone, and my DR920 War Poet has done even better for that purpose.
