    Looks tedious but very yummy! Want to try it sometime. One thought I had was that wouldn't it be better to lightly roast the cashews and raisins in a little ghee? We usually do that for payasams and other desserts.

    Even i make the same way, it tastes yumm... pls don't use aluminium utensils for cooking, it's not good for health.

    In our home first we fry moog dal and then wash n cook in coconut milk ( second milk )
    Really very tasty payasam ......

      @@rajshrifood Isn't yellow jaggery just jaggery that has been bleached with artificial colours? What's the point of specifically using yellow jaggery?

    Also, does coconut milk split on heating up? What to do so that it doesn't ??

    Absolutely delicious, I use to add dry ginger powder too. And I temper the cashew and raisins in ghee but I need to try the tempering in coconut oil

    In Mangalore, this is known as Vorn and in the end, adding 2 tablespoon of rice paste goes in well. It gives a good creamy texture.
    But no doubt, this version is also as good as it is.

      Two whole coconuts, plus 6 glasses of water. 2 for thick coconut milk and 4 for thin coconut milk

    We call it kann here in Goa. Moongdal is lightly roasted washed soaked and cooked in thin coconut milk and proceed.. People have it on ekadashi usually!

      I used mud pots( earthenware, tempered and seasoned ) to make payasam. Comes out brilliant but very difficult to wash the pot after that. Altho I kp it on super sim it dies get stuck. Any idea where I m going wrong?

    Thanks you for sharing your Mum’s recipe. Now that I have a recipe I would definitely want to give it a try. Can you please provide how much mung Daal and Sabodana you used? If you can list all the ingredients under the video that would be really helpful. 👌🙏🏼
