I had a 1980 911 SC that ate fuel pumps! Every three months I had to replace it. After going through 5 refurbed pumps purchased from the local NAPA store, I finally bought a NEW OEM pump. Problem solved ! Save your money ! Don't buy refurbed crap ! Buy OEM ! It's much cheaper in the long run.

Ouch. Why did the starter seize? What I don’t understand is the oil leak. I expected a hole in the block or oil pan. Did you pull out the pan and inspect the internals, perhaps check the pistons with a borescope? How’s compression? Unless you find the issue, I’d be scared of driving her. I am no mechanic but wrench on my Boxster. Good luck.

I think the starter was just due to age, and after about a month of sitting full with oil (3.5 quarts) just a few drops (sorta normal) for this engine. I haven't done a compression test just yet, that's next on my list. Plus that borescope down a spark plug hole as well. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment.

Sounds to me like it dropped a valve, Hopefully not through the top of the piston

While you’re in there, clean up your wiring. Loose hanging wires over the throttle bar, live fuse underneath you car near axels, bare connectors…. Definately a fire hazard……

The smoke is no big deal. That's just the oil burning off.
You should know the sound of your motor to be able to tell if anything is different. There's a low-pitched thump that sounds expensive to my ears, though.
This points up the importance of always checking both lights every time you start the car. I mean, if the wire came off while you were driving this trip, that's a bad coincidence, but you need to look for both lights (especially the oil light!!) any time you go to start the engine.
So, it sounds like you lost the oil from the engine, which then lost power and then died. To me, that says the moving bits overheated, expanded, and seized. You probably damaged bearings, rings, and cylinders at the very least.
Time for a compression check, and throw a numeric oil pressure gauge on there if you can.

Hey Dave! Yes the motor does sound off for sure, today I plan to pull the plugs, do a compression check, and see if I can get an oil pressure gauge hooked up as well. Maybe see if I can get my borescope down the spark plug holes. What should be the oil PSI on a cold engine at idle?

@@ArrowheadGarage -- Cold engine? Fairly high pressure with 20W50 or similar oil, but it depends on a lot of things. I know that warm you want to see about 10 PSI per 1000 RPM until the pressure relief valve opens...

This Porsche is NOT well maintained, Type 4 is one of the easiest engines to work on, and is one of the most reliable engines . Hitting a start motor hard ,with a heavy hammer is not the best thing to do, they just need a tap. I am glad this guy is not working for me.

Dropped valve seat, car is well maintained.
