The Ultimate Porsche 914/6 Build!

- Today we catchup with Ken and his Porsche 914/6 build and conversion. A collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche between 1969 and 1976, this mid-engined sports car originally carried a flat 4 aircooled engine. Ken has modified and built a beautiful Porsche 914/6, swapping out the 2.0L flat 4 engine with a Porsche flat 6 964 engine and power plant. This wide body Porsche has a serious presence on the road and a sound to match. Ken gives us a tour of his build and details what it takes to build a Porsche 914/6 and then we hit the road and test drive this amazing car.
These 914/6 cars were serious competition for a Porsche 911, being mid engine and weighing significant less than the 911:
964 Carrera 2 weighed 1350kg
Porsche 914 2.0 weighs 970 Kg

2nd in the house tonight. 51 years ago I bought my 1st Porsche. 1970 914-6. Fast little car. I worked at Road Atlanta at the time. I had so much fun in that car, especially on the track. I used to scare the hell out of my girl friends and myself~~~.. LOL.. Wish now I had never sold it. I still have my 911 Carreras but that little 914-6 was awesome fun to drive.

That car does need the driving lights. Also nice condition engine cover and your rear trunk pivots are intact (many 914's have these broken to the front sides of the trunk pop up. All it takes is keeping them lubed up).
I think the driving lights would really finish off the car
Whoa ... Nice job . Hard to do now as 914 chassis prices are ridiculous and a air cooled 964 engine is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to fine in late March of 2024. Enjoyed watching this . Thanks.
Thanks, I looked for a 964 engine recently and was absolutely shocked at the price even G50 gearbox prices are crazy. It is becoming harder to do these builds but perhaps the market price reset will help.
People think cup holders have no place in sports cars. Some of us daily drive ours so they do. Obviously we won't be having a drink inside during a track day.

Interesting, I just purchased a 914-6 GT tribute, need to get the 914-6 2.0L 6 rebuilt and put in the car. Also in Melbourne. Seemed like the perfect counter point to my GT4RS. Mid engined bookends, 53 years apart.

hahah many do think this kind of car only had a 4 speed (I do think the auto is 4 speeds though), but these were 5 speed manuals.

June 2024, how did it get converted to RHD ? especially if was from US
A local shop did it many years ago. It was common back in the day to convert them, now the trend is to keep them LHD.

I have a 914/930/901 car/engine/trans still unfinished in my garage.
Mounting a 1984 930 engine to 911 trans by flipping the ring gear works.
Why anybody would want a 330 horse power turbo engine in a 914 is beyond me, but l was. I want to put the Beach Boys Racing Monterey steel body kit on it but cannot find one. Maybe someone has one laying around for sale.

Hell Hole was the battery tray in a 914. 1st thing to rust out.
Battery trays in these small cars is always a trap.
